Law On Where Number Plates Should Be Mounted?

Recommended Posts

Got pulled over the other day and the cop fined me $215 and took away 3 points for having my front number plates mounted on the side of the car. (Still clearly visible) I wasn’t speeding or doing anything wrong just trying to find a car park. Now because of this I have also lost my license which is B@# S^%. What’s the law on this topic??? I’ve tried to do a search. I thought you can have it mounted anywhere as long as it’s visible from a 45 degree angle. I see cars with it mounted on the side every day. The cop said I have to have it mounted directly in the middle. Is he right? What should I do?

Anyways have included pics of the number plate.

Take it to court

You will win.

I beat the same charge.

If there is no provision to mount the number plate in a factory position, then it doesnt even need to be seen clearly at a 45 degree angle :nyaanyaa:

So you with an aftermarket kit, and 45 degree, you are 100% in the clear.

Get a lawyer, you wont loose.

The cop will withdraw before it gets to court if you have a good lawyer.

Thats what happened to mine, the court prosecutors arent retarded like the officer who issued the charge/fine, they know if they wont win, they will just can it.

Also once you do win, write a letter to the ombudsman about it all to raise level of disgust

PM me if you want one Daz, cant promise he is free tho. :P

thats harsh dude

i got done for having stickers on my window did u still have urs on the car???

fair enough a fine if its needed to be dished out but the point and taking ur license it bloody harsh!!!!!

im going to court on thursday

for the number plate being mounted on a hinge on the rear of my R32

same fine and points

the are trying to book me for a factory fitting LOL

I'm gonna bury this dude in court.

Interesting...I would've thought they'd just use that against you and say if the bar doesn't have provisions for it then it can't be legal etc...but your way is obviously better ...

Driving a car like that and all he got you for was the license plate? If it didn't come with 3 points and subsequent loss of licence, i'd be wrapped if I was you :/

This is a fairly common thing on the Evo forums, could be worth a search on there as I know it has come up. www.evolutionoz.net

They have had links to Vic Roads etc. 3 points seems a bit harsh though.

Yep.

Even the Supplementary Regulations to the law he would have quoted... clearly states that if its factory, its ok if it cant be seen on a 45 degree.

My lawyer chuckled when he found that, and the prosecutors face (on court day) was priceless.

Then we showed the officer in question and he was speechless as it was a clear case of, he couldnt be a$$ed turning over the page and reading the Supp Regs to the law he charged me with breaking

Most amusing :/

And yeah, its 3 points Alan, hence i objected it as i dont have any to spare!

If it was a $100 fine, i'd be more likely to just pay it and not waste time

Well hows this: I called Vicroads a while ago before mounting my number plate on the side and the person i spoke to said anywhere is fine just as long as it can be seen 35 degrees from each side. 35!

But then again if u call up vicroads 3 times you will get 3 different answers. u cant win!

geez learn something new everyday.... didnt know u can get fined for those things.

price we pay for having cars that stand out like a sore thumb

ps- i see ur rx7 around a fair bit in glenny area :/

I think the law here is bullshit, they fined u and take the points out. Is just not fair and i heard when they gave u yellow sticker of your car and they get commision for it, i dont know is true anot. Did anyone heard about it before :(

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
