can an admin look at fixing the search function?

it's a bit annoying seeing the same questions asked every week, and searching never digs up anything useful - i searched for "r33" and it told me no results were found!

as i can see theres obviously little tricks and ways of phrasing things that works. unfortunately i dont know any of them. maybe it'd be better to make a tute on using the search instead? anyone willing to share some knowledge?

How hard is it though?

I dont get how it requires a tutorial.

1) You enter the word (4 characters or more)

2) You select the "day from" and any other options you might want

3) Click search.

That really is all there is too it.

If you want you can use the advanced options, and the function of those options is clearly explained...

yeah i knew that stuff. i meant things like adding a * on the end or a + between words to make it more specific. just wondering if there were anymore of these tricks.

They are not "tricks"

If you click on the Advanced Usage Help button, it labels them for you.

Its not as if they are hidden functions

if you want specific phrases rather than results on each word, use quotes.

eg. "apexi safc" rather than: apexi safc. just like google.

i think the 30 second filter is crap.

why would you have a flood filter when you try and encourage people to use the search function?

if i type in something and no results are found, or if i want to define my search more. i click back then have to wait for the stupid filter.

just something little that annoys me.

Agreed. ditch the filter (or cut it back to 5-10 seconds) and it'd be ok

sweet. 10 seconds is more sensible, gotta strike a balance between abuse/whoring and being held up

the search function is kinda counter-intuitive (it should tell you the search terms must be 4 characters minimum or they are disregarded). I still don't have much luck searching for things - it's livable though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but searching for r33* won't actually pick up 'r33', only 'r33something' - you can test this with a titles only search.

Can the minimum search be changed to 3 letters? Currently there's no way to search for the most common terms - r32, r33, r34, GTR, s13, etc.

No, it will pickup R33, and R33xxx

When you think about it, using R33 probably isnt the best item to use anyhow, just thing of the sheer amounr of threads it will return.

The more specific you are, the greater chance you will have.

Sorry but just tried it again on a title search and that's not the case - r33* will only pick up r33xx - not one result with 'r33' in the title

I've just tested it
