If I had an RB25DE on one engine stand side by side with an RB30E on another engine stand, I reckon in one day I could have a 450 bhp capable RB30DET ready to go in the car. It is basically a bolt and unbolt exercise.

hrmm I think I may take you up on that one Sydneykid... :D lol

Sydneykid...how much would it cost to get a rb30 built? just ball park, no special bits, no turbos but ready to bolt turbs on, just a stock rb25 head non vct and a stock rb30 bottom end??

I am so in two minds now about building an rb2.2....I'm sure it would be nice and all but couldn't cut it even compared to a stock rb30 with a stock rb25 head and a turb to match....

If its not too much trouble for a ball park price...,

Thanks...

Ender..

If you were to grab a stock RB30E NA bottom end that had low kays and bolted on the RB25DE Head you would be up for maybe 2k inc. an ecu reprogram. I'm going off a head is $800-$1000 you fit it your self with the gasket kit which i'm guestimating a max of $300 plus an ecu program worth around $500.

2K should do it. If you have to use the RB25DE Plenium chamber as the rb20det one doesn't fit apparently. The RB20 Exhaust manifold is fine however. A dump pipe mod may also be required.

I am wondering for cost factor would it be possible to use the RB20DET injectors on the Rb25DE Head?

I was gonna get someone else to do it, no time at the moment....

What about the farication required? new pulley placement, will my alternator and p/steer pump bolt straight on?

I have an rb20det fuel rail and 550cc injectors, was wondering if I could use these, on a non vct head,

If I use the standard exhaust manifold off rb20 then I could use any TO3 flanged turbo right??

Cheers,

Ender.. All the RB bottom ends are the same or similiar should I say everything bolts up the same.

You can use any TO3 flanged turbo.

With regards to the injectors.. That is what I would like to know as I have larger than standard items.

Hi endewr, last RB30E/RB25DE cost as follows;

Buy RB30E $160

Buy RB25DE $1100

Sell RB30E head -$100

Sell RB25DE bottom end -$400

Sell RB20DET complete -$500

Commondoor Gasket kit $180

Commondoor Rings $80

Commondoor Bearings $120

Balance $220

Hone $120

Assemble $350

Fit to car $400

R33 GTST turbo & Ex manifold $400

Series V Turbo RX7 Injectors $520

Tune R32 Std ECU $800

Total $3450

We used an RB20DET inlet manifold with the RX7 injectors and retuned the standard R32 ECU to suite. Car already had a GTR intercooler and split dump exhaust. We got the turbo mildly hi flowed by GCG soon after and car made 260 rwkw with a Z32 AFM at 0.9 bar. Last time I heard it had done 50,000 k's with only regular servicing.

It didn't feel like a turbo car at all, it just had linear power from idle all the way to 7k rpm.

Hope that helps

Hi Joel, the RB20DET gearbox seems OK to around 260 rwkw with an RB20DET driving it. The RB30/25 engine had a lot of torque so I expected the gearbox to die, but it seems to have lasted, done 160,000 klms that gearbox. Changing to an RB25DET gearbox is pretty easy though, and if you trade in a good RB20DET box, not that expensive. If you are going over 300 rwkw then it is essential.

Yep, standard pistons, no block based oil squirters, they are in the rods on an RB30. They work OK, as long as you change the oil and filter regularly.

Hope that helps.

Hi matlowth, TRY09 (or is it TRY08 now?) runs standard GTST driveshafts and a standard viscous diff centre and ratios (crown wheel and pinion) as well. I know it's an auto (not a manual), but 26" tall drag slick and more than 400 rwkw. I for one am not worried about my GTST rear end handling the power.

I am not sure about tailshafts, but I have never seen a broken Skyline one, they wear out uni's slower than most high powered cars. Thanks for the tip though, I'm gunna check the sizes of the GTR tailshaft compared to the GTST one.

Hope that adds to the discussion

What gearbox does try09 use? I'm tipping that if you want to go any more than 320rwkw in a GTSt then you'd need to look at gearbox upgrade... and that will be very expensive! Has anyone tried mating a supra 6sp up? do they handle much more power? Or are you better off spending the money on a better gear set for the GTSt gearbox?

..here is some help... my car "click here to view " had a rb30/25 conversion done. it had forged pistons, i thought it had shot peened rods but it didnt.. it made a max of 566rwhp and was driven on this engine at that hp for 1.5yrs everyday before an injector failed which caused the engine to seize. tony rigoli asks 4k for the complete conversion drive in and out with new head studds and some other sh*t. personally i think the rb30 is one of the best bottom ends every built by nissan.

nice... but i thought moving the throttle body like that on the plenum would mean that cylinder 6 (closest to the windscreen) runs lean (or is it rich) as iit doesn't get as much air. Has anyone thought of doing twin throttle bodies?

Is the Rigoli drive in drive out based on the stock bottom end or do they put in forged pistons and better rids too? and do they pull the engine out and put it back in, bolting the head on etc? or do you give them the block crank and sump and they just build the bottom end for you? meaning that you have to put the head on and put it in the car...?

not too sure i think its leave your car complete pick it up complete ready to drive but thats the price he quoted me with forgies and he said the plenum that i have has bench flowed and apparently flows much much better then standard. best to speak to rob at there new work shop in smithfield.

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
