Hi Guys i'm new to the world of Skylines and i am after a bit of advice about purchasing a skyline with about a 30k give or take budget.

I was thinking a stock R34 gt-t or maybe spending a bit less and going for a R33 gts-t, can anyone give me some advice?

I personally like the look of the R34 over the R33 but also want to a good performing car, i have found it quite difficult to find any specs on non GTR models.

What type of performance and price would i expect from a R34

Also does anyone know a ballpark figure on Insurance for a 23yr old driver for a R34

dude if you got 30 or so to spend go get yerself an R32 GTR get an exhaust tune it and run 12's all day long its the best of all worlds.

Otherwise your gonna end up with a 33 for 10 grand less , spend the difference on it and you'd have to strees the heell out of the engine to get it to do what the GTR will do without braking a sweat.

The only thing is if i spend 30k on a car i would prefer a car thats newer and has lower kms, i love the look of the r34 especially in bayside blue.

I am not really after the fastest car on the road just something that looks nice, runs well, will hold value we'll and something that has a bit of balls and i'm sure a stock r34 gt-t still has plenty of go compared to other cars on the road.

I'm just sick of losing so much money on cars when i go to resell them and think an r34 a few years down the track will still hold it's value reasonably well compared to other cars (if we'll looked after).

I'd be happy if the stock r34 gt-t was up to performance levels with say a new stock SS, obviously were talking different engine sizes but as far as acceleration is that a resonable assumption?

IMHO

If insurance is an issue, then a GTR's power/performance etc could be prohibitive.

In terms of Stock performance, an R34 GTT would/should be quicker than a R33 GTSt and obviously more expensive.

If you want a Bayside Blue color, then you've definitely got to go for an R34 - Bayside Blue wasn't available on the 33's (unless it's a respray)

With 280PS, plenty of torque, decent brakes and suspension a stock R34 GTT would be a good buy...

ur insane if u dont get an r34. they look way way better than any of em. their heaps quick, not many ppl have em, and the color that u want is crazy. and like u said, it will keep its value (comparitive), they are a lot newer, and chances are u will have less troubles once u purchase it. dont get me wrong r32 gtr will hammer but its 12 year old car compared to a 3-4 yr old car. id go r34 gt-t. and watch the women go crazy.

either way no matter what skyline ur gonna get insurance will be expensive. depending on wat type of insurance, company, previous history, and rating, ur looking at approx (ball park figure) $2500 for full about $700 for third.

good luck. r34 is the way.

looking at dyno results between the cars i can't stop thinking r33's respond better to mods!? its the same case with pre and post my00 wrx's...anyways, just a small observation that carries no weight whatsoever...:)

i'm also unsure wether or not GTT's came in bayside blue!? i thought only BNR34's did?

low to mid 30's would get you a pretty ordinary ER34 (just as an indication i got an offer for my car for over 40k just the other day), it would however, get you a mint R33 GTS-T! I believe Merli and MIZ33T are selling their skylines for the right money and they are both pumping big HP and they are both immaculate.

I have never been in a R34 or any skyline actually, probably the quickest car i have driven is a new Holden SS, how would a stock R34 compare to a stock SS regarding acceleration so i can get a feel for the kind of acceleration i should expect from the car?

What car on the road could you compare a standard r34 gt-t to cause i never really see any on the roads

The R34 range came out in 1998. These early R34's (non GTR) were NOT available in bayside Blue.

Later with the release of the GTR Nissan introduced the bayside blue color.

In 2000 Nissan released a special model, the R34 GT-V. This was available in B-Blue, and following on from that, all R34 models (GT, GTT GT-V, 2 & 4 doors etc were available in B-Blue...

I've seen quite a few 98, 99 Bayside Blue GT-T's around, auctions, Japanese car sites... but ur looking around 35 at the very cheapest i reckon, prob more 37. But that's because it's Bayside Blue...

In terms of comparison to an SS, from figures, the R34 is a touch quicker 0 - 100, and lighter by about 200+ kg's. I'm sure would have better handling and brakes too, bcos it's a Nissan and a Skyline. Prob better for mods than an SS too. But again, this isn't coming from first hand experience, just paper figures and such. But i'm sure wouldn't have too much trouble putting the SS in it's place :D

If u wanna go the black or silver route (there is a silver silver, and a pewter silver. silver silver looks much better IMHO) you could prob get one (like predator said) for low to mid 30's, but would be looking a bit more for the Bayside Blue.

good luck with whatever you choose, i'm actually trying to decide whether i want to get a bayside blue R34 GT-T myself... but have no f*cken idea what i want to do (i.e. get a car, apartment, get a cheaper car, go o.s. ... etc)

but i'm sure you'll be bloody happy if u get a GT-T

stock for stock...r34 is quicker than the R33 and has better engine internals..

yeh more and more GT-T these days are in the mid to low $30 000 these days on private sales

    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻   
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
