I'm new here and yeah.. anyways i'm a mechanic for a certain manufacturer that brought out a 4L turbo engine a bout 4 years ago. well they suck. time and time again i see engine these motors fail and I would like to say that they should leave it to the japanese as i can sit my 17 year old rb on the limiter with no problems (so far) but i cant realy complain too much as it keeps me in a job.. Ha!

I took a pic on my phone of one of these ( not so ) quality vehicles.

It spat the dummy with only 15,000kms on the clock. Enjoy

The 8's aren't turbo though. How many of the failures are a direct result of owner abuse? What is the point of this thread?

very hard to destroy by abusing them. computer controlled boost etc..

you cant even cook them, they go into limp mode where fuel is pumped into them to keep them cool whilst they run on limited cylinders.

the "point" of this thread is that i was just commenting on build quality. thats all . sorry

i hope u know ford brought out a turbo 4 litre inline 6 along time before the ba

but only being a limited run never reallyheard anything from them ...

just say, it all depends on how the drivers treat them also

alot of the people that drive them could highly like start the car and thrash them whlie cold, u dont know the full story :)

and if your bagging build quality ... why do they do this? do you have any evidance that a particular item is to blame?

Just making an observation as someone who see's and works with them day in and day out.

starting to regret posting now..

dont worry dude i liked your post , all the rb i have seen blown up have not put a hole in the block

i dont mind the 4l turbo car u are talking about but a few bad stories are starting to surface about them

The reason i say build quality is shit is because 80% of work done by our dealership is warranty repairs. all engines have been sent to ford and have been deemed "manufacturing fault". these cars are quickly mass produced. ask any ford owner about their diff. have changed up to 4 diffs in one vehicle. you can't tell me that's good build quality.

Advertise them to "enthusiasts" and you your gonna get more failures...bit worried about the "manufacturing fault" deal. I hope this isnt some astroturfing.

Diff bearings fail like it's nobody's business, crown and pinions collapse, they leak.

Ford recomends castrol oils and shit maybe thats the problem or it could possible be too long between service intervals i down't know. i have friends that work for other companies and they have little warranty work. i have seen a 6sp manual trans shit itselt and rip the bell housing in half. I don't know... i would be pissed that my 60K car needs a new engine 1 year after i bought it..

Last year i fit 6 new boss 260 motors to vehicles under 30,000Km. all spin #7 main bearings.

friggen shitboxes..

a few years ago we were sent a XR6T on a tow truck customer said would't start, found out later that C&V performance boosted it and it shattered a piston, it sent it all through the intake manifold. I think that they are built on the limit, meaning that adding anymore of anything and they will grenade. you cant add 7 more psi to a falcon the same way you can a rb motor.

thats why some XR6T's are making upwards of 700kw on stock internals?

its all in tuning, like any engine, you bodge the tuning and the engine will 'grenade'.

you get the tuning right and itll run sweet day in and day out.

how many RB's do you think got blown up in their early days when people were still trying to get te tuning right?

Like i said before these are observations that i have seen personally. Don't get me wrong there are modified vehicles putting up good numbers but a dead stock standard 1 yearold engine giving up the ghost sucks balls....

    • That still isn't a lot to go on. I don't have a Y50 Fuga Head Unit wiring diagram. I can say that a lot of nissans of that age shared head unit plugs, so if you are in Australia something like this would probably help: https://aerpro.com/app091# You plug that into the car loom, then either plug the head unit ISO into that (if it has ISO), or you buy and ISO adapter harness that you wire in. Bit of stuffing around, but once you have ISO its easy to change things in future.
    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
