Sinistagtst, I had a quick look at your 33 last Sat'. It looks like it has all the required 'goodies' in the engine bay. Is it a GT3540? And what cams are you running?

  • 3 weeks later...

bah ! :(

get to boostworx today, car engine hot as *%#@ coolant leaking out, temp guage sky high and smoke from engine.

Lol; busted radiator, right on time, replacing with thicker item.

take off turbo and manifold and the manifold drops into 2 pieces, was split in two. only done 100km since I last had the car here as I knew it was sick. Lol; replacing with a standard unit as I reckon a cheap stainless steel jobby isnt worth while.

expensive day, looks like shell cost me a grand all up.

pressure test radiator, shagged, get replacement thicker item, fit, flus and fill, take off pipework, manifold splits in two, get replacement same item, drill out and replace all exhaust studs, fit new manifold gasget, replace etc etc, install (perhaps, time permitting) adjustable exhaust cam gear pulley, drop front driveshaft and tune safc / sitc for the Slide highflow turbo.

Im awaiting for another phone call from Shaun, lol, you never know.

better be reliable after this, Im broke !

new battery for the bike today (advertiser tomorrow, $7700), doctors and painkiller script, mates up for dinner (chinese & carton bourbs)

very expensive day, lol. damned 'lucky' so to speak I didnt pay the mortgage this month

Tehehehehe :(

im not that happy... i went in for a tune because i had quite large knock readings.... had it tuned it was ok for about 4weeks but now it is back to the same way it was when i took it in.....

U running the same fuel? from when u tuned it to now?? octane boost FTW!

yep everything is the same. and now i have the same knock back again :P And i dont kno what to do bout it??? would you ring him and talk to him bout it? or is it just bad luck? cos they do sound like nice people down ther

Sometimes it can be bad fuel that was put in your tank, as though this happened to us..We always use bp 98 and it starting knockn high again, so we adjusted the timing on the power fc..if u got one you could just so that, otherwise, just give them a bell and let him know, he might b able to lead u in the right direction b4 you being to feel disapointed.

Take it back because some thing is obviously not quite right with it.

Once its tuned its tuned, unless you manually select to initialize the powerfc it shouldn't start knocking.

Another place to look is dodgy knock sensors, bad crank angle sensor or excessive blowby that is causing the knock.

There's obviously something up with the car. Get it back on the dyno to see whats wrong with it.

IF its just a bit of high knock when loading it up in a high gear at low rpm this is because its near impossible to simulate road conditions on the dyno.

LOL Tangles.. Always the way. Mind you thats some pretty bad luck. Cast manifold splitting in two?!?!?! :S

lol

yeah I'll see it abit later today hopefully, not sure exactly on the end result, but by the sounds of it either way the manifold is SHAGGED, split, kaput. just replacing with a stnd one, but still there goes some wasted ca$h hey

Ok im new to this so plz dont call me dumb (actully go on u kno u want to) is it ok to get a knock say in forth gear doing 60 when u say accelerate hardish up to lik 80?
What sort of knock levels are you getting on the hand controller? or is it audible?

That depends if its always done it or was fine for 4weeks after it was tuned like you said a few posts up.

IF it was fine then all of a sudden it has started knocking again then no its not fine some thing is up with the car.

IF its done it since its been tuned then also.. no its not fine, but its just a slight tuning issue.

Take it back for a touch up as its difficult to simulate all road load conditions on a dyno. Tell Shaun what road speed and gear its doing it at and he will fix it up.

Its no big deal, just give him a buzz and let him know whats going on. But do make sure you make mention that it was fine for the first month or so and has started knocking and explain the conditions of when it knocks.

Regarding high knock... I'd be concerned with anything over 45ish. Occasionally you might get the odd little spike to 40 odd but thats nothing to worry about. If its always hitting over 45ish then all that is required is a degree from one or two of the load/rpm points.

I've been going to Shaun for ages and he is the best!

I've had many different types of cars and been to many different places but he is still by far the best!

I wouldn't go anywere else!

I wouldn't go anywere else!

yeah, I wont be.

very happy with there level of service.

ended up being a $800 experience, exhaust manifold was definately snapped clean in half, quite a site.

replaced with stock, and a stockish radiator. new exhaust studs, redid all the intercooler piping (they asked who did it, dodgy me lol!) for me, tuned.

the rear muffler is hugely restrictive (sooooo quiet), was going to replace over xmas but didnt so now I will get a higher flowing item when possible, and have the adj.exhaust cam wheel installed, all tuned to 16psi. would expect around 210+ rwkw then. but for now, it feels super responsive....... comes on boost so nicely, cant tell this is a 1900kg vehicle (full wet weight + me).

for cube's analization:

scan0001.jpg

almost quick enough for a family wagon, but time to shop ebay; muffler lol :sorcerer:

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
