i got an upgraded warranty for like 700 bux through avwg

got my money back on it in repairs for stuff

they arent that bad

u just have to service you car to their conditions (which are pretty reasonable)

that said, if you buy a good car (ie GET IT CHECKED OUT) u can probably just put that 700 bux to maintenance anyway and not be too far off ok

my warranty covered:

door locks failed, they got them all replaced for me

thermo fan cracked, i actually paid for it to be repaired by nissan, avwg then refunded me the money it cost to get it repaired after i wrote them a nice letter

and something else, which i cant think of now, never had any issues, i did send of my servicing coupons to them

aircon issues, including broken auto button got fixed under warranty

i asked about a few other things, and they were usually pretty helpful and told me whether they would cover it or not

some they didnt, some they did

really, as the end user its up to US to read the information they give you and use it to our advantage

haha ur cars falling apart lol.

why would i pay $150 to get it serviced with a valvoline 20-50 oil and a valoline filter when i could use a ryco or nissan filter and 0w-40 synthetic oil for $75

not worth having thick sludge running through my turbo oil feed lines..

well, its a 93 s1 r33, its old, so yer

all of that stuff happened in the first two years of us getting the car

since ive got it fixed propperly, no more issues

also, what are you on about with regards to servicing the car?

i got our car serviced at chapman and chapman for the first 12 months we owned it

im reasonably sure they know how to service a car

there was no stipulation that i had to get the car serviced anywhere

Thanks guys, I am headed out on saturday afternoon to have a look at one and taking my brother (who is a mechanic) and also a friend of mine who is very into modifying cars but he is more into V8's to have a look with me. Also one of my aunty and uncle's sons does drag racing and is owner of a performance shop and deals with safety checks/road worthy and stuff so not only will I get a RACQ check done on it I might get him to come out one day with me to have a look over it as well.

I will be checking every sticker on the car I can find to make sure they all match up and I had also forgotten about making sure the KM's it has done where all dead straight.

I think I know of the place one of you guys mentioned on Logan Road that is dodgy. One of my friends purchased a R33 through one place with all these mods listed on it through a car dealer on Logan Road a couple of years back and after he had signed the paper work and paid for it he went to pick it up when it was ready and got a stock R33. Luckily all the mods were listed on the paper work he signed so he ended up taking them to court.

I am a little confused on the front bar that its on it. It sorta looks like the GTS4 front bar and also appears to have GTR bonnet and grille on it.

So in other words, it's had a big front end hit and they've put a new bonnet/bumper/grille on it.... make sure you check it over thoroughly...

Yeah I am going to check over the front end very carefully on that one. I very rarely see imported R32's coming in with GTR bonnets and grills. I know its a common mod to do but I haven't see too many on import sites such as imports101 and J-Spec.

[Edit]

I think I might have to add you to my list of people coming out to help me check it out AzzurrA :)

Ok I have found a R32 that I like but I haven't got a price on it yet and it does have a couple of issues. It is at a dealer ship and has just been imported and there is a couple of things wrong with. I am thinking about going back to have another look at it and talk to them more about it next week to find out what sort of deal they can do for me. It has a small pindent in the rear quarter (I have been looking into paintless dent removal), front bar needs a respray and is missing the fuel flap but I will make sure one is added with the car if I go through with it. I was thinking I might be able to save some money by telling them not to touch up the front bar (its a veilside bar) and not worry about the pindent and just put a fuel flap on and I will get it colour matched when i get the front bar sprayed. Also the Rims have scuff marks as well.

It is a 92 R32 GTS-T manual. I haven't check the km's on it and that will be another deciding factor but based on what was listed as being being problems and if I choose the fix the Rims, Pindent, Respray front bar and fuel flap. Just wondering how much people would think a fair price with the issues would be?

make sure you keep us informed and would like a final price and pics once you get your ride...

good luck...

Ohh as for the age old 32 over 33..its people's personal preference.....just dont touch a old R32 GTR.....its case of the GTR owning you creadit card/bank account  then....regardless of the purchese price.....too many mates horrer storys abound....

Good luck with your inspections......

my 32 GTR is an 89 model and hasn't given me any hassles until a mechanic filled the gearbox with the wrong fluid into the wrong part of the box.

Even then it is only a small cost of fluids and some time to fix it.

Not all 32 GT-R's have to be a problem, you just have to choose carefully.

Yeah Import Auto Center is just down the road from me. I haven't had the time to see what stock they have.

If I found a R32 with a Veilside kit on it with decent KM's that was a nice colour I would be happy but considering not alot of people like the VS kit I don't like my chances.

I am trying not to jump into this purchase and looking at as many cars as I can. I have wanted a R32 for years now and I don't want my first experiance to be a bad one.

As a matter of interest, have you looked through the classifieds on this forum. There are some shit noice r32s going for sweet prices.

If ur ever around north bris do check out Phantom Motors...

They specialise in mostly R34's but if u have money im sure they will look after you...

and if ur worried bout negotiating with car dealers then let me tell u that Phantom are real understanding when it comes to pricing of their imports...

I personally baught their promo car which is on their website for $40K and I payed nowhere near that for it...

So yeh...the owner is a young bloke too (jack) and hell be able to help u with ur R32. Personally I think that phantom motors is one of the more prestige and upper class import dealerships and they hold a reputation all over north side.

check their website www.phantommotors.com.au but ull be better off goin there and susin the cars he has in stock...pretty sure his gotta couple of R32's

and when you do find a good one DO NOT let them put an immobiliser on it. I have a customers 33 GTR that was bought from a place on ipswich rd annerly that had a HORRIBLE job done on it.

drop the car around and I'll do it properly

I have already looked into alarms with 3 point immobilser on them. It is going to be purchased hopefully next week so I will have it ready for the car.

I am not going working tomorrow so it will be more time for car hunting.

    • Nice, thanks for sharing your progress....that's a pretty long list you are putting into it!
    • Decided to upgrade my pressurised plastic coolant expansion tank for a fancy pants alloy version The OEM versions can get brittle, even the new plastic one I got when I first got the car is a starting to show signs of "stress" I wasn't cheap, but it is basically unbreakable
    • Morning all, I have an RB25DET Neo that's in need of a rebuild. Will need new pistons etc due to detonation damage. Would anyone be able to recommend a shop in Southeast Queensland who I could bring my long motor to for a rebuild? Just want someone who knows RBs and whos built a bunch of them before. TLDR - recommended engine shops for RB rebuild.
    • Gday Thought it was about time I started a build thread! As expected this project has snowballed into a huge financial liability, but unless you’re strong willed and responsible, it’s not a surprise. Background -  My first turbo car was an R32 GTS-4, got my full license and then totalled my Au Falcon a week later, so while trying to sell my RMZ450 dirtbike to buy another car a bloke offered to swap the R32 which at the time I felt like I was ripped off but looking back and seeing prices of those now ($40kish) it was a good deal, I didn’t know enough about these cars to appreciate what I had so sold it before the RB20 blew up. Between here and there, out of 12 cars I’ve owned the note worthy ones are a V8 Lexus SC400 (soarer), a couple of XR6 Turbos and my beloved S15 which I had for about 3 years, picked it up for $12500, repairable write off but she was fine, gun metal grey/pewter and bone stock/unmolested until I got my hands on it. Ended up spending about the value of the car and 280kw, 2 demerit points by the time I got defected and sold it for $14500 (also $40kish in today’s market, rip) Fast forward to the present day, I’m in a much better position financially and daily an MQ Triton (great cars, pipe down Ranger Bois), I cruised marketplace and car sales for a few months looking for another R32, the best deal I could find was an absolute rust bucket half finished project for $12000, until this R33 popped up in Port Macquarie for $18k - unregistered and barely running but decent shape, kept an eye on it for a few weeks and the price steadily dropped, $16k then $15k then $14k, that was the point where I was like shit someone’s gonna snatch this up! It was owned by a young bloke who had big plans but him and his missus just had a baby so smartest move financially for them but big gain for me. So 2 days later I’m towing a car trailer to pick this thing up. Roughly 2 weeks and $3500 later I’m cruising around Newcastle in my beat up R33 all smiles and dose noises! It only needed some basic shit to get it going, coil packs and air flow meter, electrical stuff and all fluids changed, 158k kms and running pretty good, nice smooth engine after oil and coolant flush - when I say coolant I mean it had been filled up with tap water, every gallery and heater element was filled with rust, 8-9 flushes later and still had brown liquid coming out but she’ll be right. The car was painted R34 Bayside Blue at some point but whether it was a cheap job or just not looked after is anyone’s guess, clear coat flaking like sausage roll.  Was rethinking my choices and contemplating life, had it up for sale for $22k - still cheaper than any registered R33 but got little interest, next minute I had an opportunity at work - 6 months overseas for good money, so that was a no brainer, fast forward again and here we are with a 50% finished project. Current Mods - 200ish KW according to butt dyno Was tuned with Apexi PowerFC EBC (old school Greddy Profec)  Stock turbo (more shaft play than a Tinder date gone right) 3inch turbo back Varex muffler  Aftermarket injectors of mystery size, Power FC showed 36% duty cycle at full boost so not behd good size Someone had good intentions but stuck with the stock R33 MAF so we had misfires at 6000rpm due to the MAF hitting 5.2V So far I’ve redone the entire interior with carpet form Car Mats Direct, new Seats and steering wheel from Autotechnica, also sound system by Autobarn (mainly Kicker) Also MCA pro comfort coil overs - Hands down best purchase yet, worlds of improvement over the tired 30yrold shocks Goals - 450kw/600hp on flex tune New paint job - Midnight Purple 2 Engine is at the shop getting rebuilt with forged rods a pistons, new valves and springs, ATI Harmonic balancer, Aeroflow 7.5L sump, rear head drain and oil restrictors as per oil control thread* and cam covers modded for larger breathers, other stuff I can’t recall of the top of my head Parts purchased and to be installed once the engine is done -  Engine loom from Wiring Specialties including these options: Haltech Nexus S3 R35 Coil pack conversion  PRP Dual Trigger kit Fan controller  Other Parts -  262 Kelford Cams Turbo - Hypergear ATR43SS3-ProS with T51R mod (whistly boi) 6 boost manifold (high mount) 50mm Turbosmart Pro gate (plumbed back for legal reasons) HKS Super Turbo Exhaust with High Flow Cat Custom 3.5inch dump and front pipe 1500cc Bosch injectors  Fuel Pump walbro 525 Haltech MAP and IAT sensors Haltech Flex Sensor Fenix Radiator with dual thermo fans LS1 Alternator Kit Oil Filter Relocation from EFI solutions and Cooling pro oil cooler Many other things sitting in my garage waiting for that engine to come back. Progress pics to follow -
    • Losses have to be less with DC coupling. Provided the battery inverter has decent MPP tracking ability - which really shouldn't be a problem. It's not 2005 any more.
