Last Sunday saw the first round of the NSW supersprint championships held at Oran Park. Much to everbodies disgust the track was ill-prepared by the track admin and so we were forced to run on the short circuit. BASTARDS,,,please do ever have a go at the ARDC again EC is always clean and tidy.

SAU NSW had a great weekend coming home 5th outright especially considering we only had 3 cars entered.

Jason won SVD,,,well done mate and nice to meet you.

John got a 3rd in SVD,,,well done as well,,,sorry mate I should have introduced myself.

and i got a 2nd in my sports sedan class (beaten by 2 one-hundreths).

Now the real worrying thing about all this is NOT one of us were driving a bloody Skyline. 2 300zx's and a Capri.

You all call Z's boats but I don't see any of you GTR owners and GTS-T owners registered or even out there having a go. Would that be because 75% of GTR's are having engines rebuilt and GTS-T owners think there cars are to precious.

Come on all you slack bums get your cars out there and help us move up the ladder.

Neil.

Hope to see you at the next round…

Cheers Brian

good work guys. :( sorry I couldn't be out there, but I'm not a big fan of OP short circuit anyway. it's painful driving around there and not being able to use the whole straight, and the kink, and the over the bridge is awesome too. I will try and make a few rounds this year.

ps. they've got you down as 3rd in 4C neil

Also noticed the fastest time of the 300zx compared to the capri, the 300zx must have some SERIOUS mods...

you need:

an approved fire extinguisher mounted in reach of driver, on a metal bracket

a battery triangle

competition number displayed on both doors

cams L2S licence

cams affiliated club membership

approved helmet

full length non-flamable clothing and shoes

a track worthy car (no loose bodywork, no leaks etc)

that's it as far as I can remember

Yea Jack stupid me thought having 50 odd more killowatts this year would see me well into the top ten.

I forgot one very important thing,,,my 2 1/2 year old tyres. Talk about an understeering pig. All will be fixed though as I have approval from the finance minister.

Neil.

Stupid question, and please dont shoot me down for asking...

But how do the supersprints work?

Is it a flying lap or laps?

how many other cars onthe track?

I did the bathurst supersprint down conrod - is it similar to that?

not stupid at all.

I have been to 2 different formats fo sprints. Normally they are 2 cars starting together for 3 flying laps....out of the pits for a warm up lap, start when you cross the start line, finish on the 3rd lap, do a cooldown lap and back into the pits. Generally 6-8 cars on the track at one time depending on track size.

While there are cars on the track you generally will have plenty of space to yourself (very unusual for 2 cars together to be at exactly the same place at the same time). But it is not a track day, you (or they) can overtake anywhere they like including in corners.

I have also done 2 with standing starts, one at oran park and the bathurst one. But they are much less common.

Here I was thinking it was just ~10 lap sprint races not time trial type driving.

Generally how many cars attend?

What classes are their?

Costs to compete etc?

(I cant any websites with info? which is prob why i've never attended these events)

nah super sprints are designed as the entry point for motorsport so they just keep it nice and simple.

most of the time there are far less cars on the track than at your average track day.

they just time individual laps, fastest lap over the day is taken for the results. Generally you would get 5-8 3 laps sessions.

And of course they are v cheap compared to a track day too.

Downside is you can't carry a passenger (not that many track days allow this any more either). Upside is they are on pretty regularly and you only need L2S license and basic saftey gear.

Next step up from supersprints are full races with 20-40 cars on a grid, tarts from lights and 8-12 laps. you need a PC or NC license and full prepped race car for these.

I have all the regs for ths state supersprint champs from Neil, will post it up tomorrow in the calendar thread for you to have a look at. But basically all skylines end up in SV (special) over 4000cc (2.5 or 2.6 x 1.7)

    • ok so if i wanted to go 18's i would go for 8's  in front 30+ or 32+ off set at front and the back 9 would be ok? what offset should i aim for.. then can i do some  hunting for wheel rim choices..    If i get this - will this fit all around: Size: 18 x 8.5 +37 - n what tyres size tyre should i get for front n back?
    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
