Freeway Car Audio Private Sale

alpine had alot better stuff a few years ago, now they r 2 main stream and they are cutting corners on the quality of their work!

Apparently Alpine will soon be producing a lot of their stuff in China to save costs. Pretty good sign to me they're trying to go mainstream.

Notice how all their current marketing is all now quoting dodgy stuff such as peak power, power quoted @ 14.4v and things like that :D

hmm, what to buy, what to buy ...

mmm focals are good

i always go for stuff like nakamichi, focal, rockford fosgate etc when buying stuff...

besides the fact that you get a certificate with rockfords saying "this amp has been tested and rated at 429.2 WRMS" you also get a nice solid feelin piece.

I've got about 2 grand... a 12" tarantula should be around $600 each (well das how much my mate picked em up for at the last Freeway invite only sale), i'll get 2 of them, and with the rest of the money i'll get some competition focal splits and maybe a couple of kruddy Alpine 3way 6.5"s for rear fill in.

Amp can wait till later.

haha.. you are mister SQL boy aren't ya munky..

I'd rather buy a bigger turbo than spend $2k on my car though.

I did buy with pioneer and sony and the like for 4 years, so i want fair bit better than that.. but i'm not spending a fortune.. most of the time i wanna listen to the engine anyway if i'm pushing it..

Nothing can beat a Morel handcrafted tweeter system with Mark Levinson Aplifier and Bezel subs... these three things are probably worth more than my car, and it can make it seem like J-Lo was singing her shit in a skimpy bikini right next to you in your passenger seat.

y not have both?

Morel tweeters are some of the few in the world you can plug straight into an amplifier without a crossover... they cost about $1000 a piece

There is no point having something that expensive and clear in a sports car, mayb if u had a bentley or royls royce then it would be worth it

followed by the spund of your piston blowing...

hehe... well the new lexus 4WD comes with a Mark Levinson system which retails for about 10 grand... but with the 4WD you get it for 6 grand.

I agree that hi fidelity is best left at home, and crudeness rules on the road. But I'm not a big SPL fan, I am however a big R&b fan, and I really like hearing the voices of people, that's why clarity is important to me.

i think a car sound system will always sound better than a home theatre system (depending on what is installed and who installed it)

but when your talking performance, you gotta leave it out. but that doesnt mean you cant have both....its just a handicap, as in, i can tell the difference when i have 1, 2, or 3 passengers...but its still "fast"(compared to my old hyundai:D)

but then a system in a hyundai will sound(and feel better) than a skyline!

its all about what you want your car to perform like and sound like, and how much mulla you have in your pocket at the time!!!

rickys sound better than gaj's and hasaana monaro. Hasaana is getting a ferrari 360 or 355 very soon, that guys days a multi millioniar and could easily afford 1 for each of his family members.

haha tell me about it. i'm waitin for the day i get my gtr, so i can drive up there and beat the pants off gaj's supra... should be fun, stock 89 gtr on stock 91 supra...

well we're entitled to our own opinion! but like i said...if the right stuff is set up in the right car it will own any home theatre...the sound dynamics of the interior of the car means you get the full experience of every driver (if position correctly) with no interferece:D

i doubt he will bother selling it, he will prob just keep it lying around till he gets bored and sells it dirt cheap!

ricky told me that about 2 days after hassan forked out 50k cash for his monaro he rocked up to freeway and handed him a cheque for 17 grand and told him to install whatever he wanted as long as it was all good quality stuff!!

    • Welcome to SAU, what are you looking at buying?
    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
