I was suggesting maybe one of thse godly workshops should get some tips and possibly the equipment to retune the factory ecu so they can be called EVO' gods. The factory ecu is more than capabile for all your needs and is relativly easy to tune.

I agree someone needs to get their hands on the equipment and start providing tuning for an evo that is not running a motec.

tell benno to get a 4wd dyno and I can hook him up with the gear to tune these cheater cars

This is already available via a few guys that do ECU reflashing. It is one option I am considering and am speaking to someone about it at the moment. >_<

After seeing to Evo 9's make around 220 awkw's with only air mods and tune and a monster Evo 8 make 323 awkws I would definitely be taking my Evo to RE Customs. I have never seen a car like that Evo make so much low down power and still make a huge total.

I think these guys would have to be one of the best tuning shops in Melb at the moment. Healthy tunes with big power.

Now if Ray could only make time to fit my car in :O

www.recustoms.com.au

its his baby, ill let him do it

But fark me, its one of the faster street cars i've been in.

Just so well refined... 230awkw, its going to be a farken fast car.

Thanks mate - I'm very happy with how she goes now - especially considering it's still only running stock boost

(admittedly it's now holding "stock" boost to redline! Still, considering it's only a base tune - I'm happy! :( Alan went in it tonight - I'll let him post what the thinks about it!

Rod - I guess my end target is to be in a position to start offering custom tunes for 7/8/9's, but I'm still a little way off that, and I still need to speak to a few dyno operators to figure out if they're willing to "rent" out their dyno.

Cheers,

matt

What can I say, very impressed with Matt's IX. Thanks for looking at the ECU on mine last night and all the explanations, learnt more in an hour than I have in a lifetime about ECU's, extremely interesting.

It pulls hard for an Evo (have only been in a few) but sounds extremely tough with the exhaust too!

The knock surprised me on the VII also. I dont think I will bother running it on 100 RON purely for the km's I do and accessing the servos that sell it so a better tune for 98 would be my chosen path.

Let me know how you go with opening that file and I will keep you posted about the AVCR/gauge. ;)

Sounds interesting Matt. Let me know how you go. I'd be keen for something like this a little way down the track.

Not until the Wide Band o2 sensor I bought shows up!

Sif getting maggotted isn't a good thing to do!

I say you road tune this weekend for something to do ;)

Then i can come, I need something more constructive to do other than get maggoted with you all weekend which no doubt will end up happening!

No worries mate - Glad you could understand me - I tend to waffle on a bit - but it's just because I'm really into this stuff!

Just wait till the final tune is done - it'll be awesome!

Yeah no dramas - I'll sort out your timing for you to get rid of that knock. You'll be glad to know that I've already read your rom and removed the speed limiter amongst other things! Next time we catch up I can tidy up your ignition map and confirm that it's all sorted.

Cheers,

matt

  • 4 weeks later...

Lowthy i saw your car take off from in front of Bells the other night. Jesus it looked fast. I want a ride....! wouldn't mind hearing to you dribble on about the ecu tuning stuff as well, always keen to learn more :P

No worries - I'll be giving rides out up at deca! :P

Re: talking dribble - no worries - most people tune out when I start talking about the capabilities of the ecu! :)

Wear dark sunglasses so when you decide it's time to tune out you can just close your eyes for a while without appearing to be rude. :P

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
