why couldnt you use rb26 bearings?

25, 26 and 30 are all the same size.

For people in the know, it can be common to use them yes.

On a side note...Flyfink that looks like a photo of our first rb30det in your avatar...wtf? That workshop background looks like the shed at home. How the hell did you make that your avatar?

im deciding what brand of bearings to use for my rb25/30. I was thinking of acl but the workshop recommend the nismo which cost around $800. I dont mind paying the extra $$$ but if the acl are on par then no point. Using t04z with all supporting gear and aiming for 500rwkw.

My mechanic had bad experiences with King bearings when he had the motor in his car. So when we put it in my car we used NDC bearings. Only done 1000km but I'm getting pressure bleed off at idle.. going to put an N1 pump in next weekend (should have done it before but couldn't source one in time) and see if that helps.

Use the ACL race series bearings designed for the RB30. RB26 conrod bearings are different to the RB30 size. You can use RB26 mains in an RB30 but for no real benefit because there is no groove behind the bearings to feed oil to the extra oil holes.

Dont pay big money for Nismo bearings. ACL is about to or is already supplying them with their bearings. The ACL's are the best bearing you can buy in my opinion and very reasonably priced. I think they will be offering them in the future with the Calico coating which would be worth giving a go.

If he has now had issues with 2 different brands of bearings I'd suggest the problem lies with himself. :S

I've ran kingbrearings in my own car and a mates; both are still running 3 years later. I've clocked 70,000km's.

R33_racer also runs them and being a race car no doubt see's a LOT more stress; if he uses them and a lot of the VL boys use them then its good enough for myself.

The bloke who built my motor had recently finished a 700hp RB30ET of which also used king bearings and was starting the build up of a 500awkw RB26. I was recommended to spend that little bit more on them as they are an excellent bearing. They haven't let me down yet. :(

But regardless; almost all the good named bearings are decent. Most often than not the problem boils down to the person doing the work. :)

Do find out what was apparently wrong with the King bearings as they are used by many others with awesome results.

My guess still comes down to how it was setup/assembled.

Proengines... Have you heard of any issues with the king bearings? I'd assume you would have caught wind if there was. :O

No real issues as such. I have seen some that have started to flake, as in the bearing material has separated from the backing but only due to severe detonation. I use ACL race series in everything that they are available for now, I've seen a set of rod bearings out of Sainty's top fuel engine which still looked like new after quite a few runs. I also have a set here from an ej25 I did that made well over 500rwkw and they are the same, look as though they just came out of the box. The ACL's seem to cop a lot more before they start to have problems.

you can use rb26 mains....as i said previously, you groove the block to suit and then you can take advantage of the extra oil feeds per bearing.

we have used kings in two race motors so far...both with no problems. 1 racing mile = 1000 road miles. That should give a rough idea of how much extra wear and tear goes into a race motor as opposed to a street car. In one event during a day you would do equivalent to roughly 15,000miles of wear.

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
