hello all

i was reading thru my manual the other day and found that some stageas come with an auto headlight function, i am assuming this is similar to the commodore type switch, where in that the lights automatically switch off once the ignition is off and the door is opened? or is it the other way around?, in that going by the sensor in the dash it tells the car to turn the lilghts on when it becomes dark enough?

can anybody shed some light on this so to speak hehehe?

and either way i was wondering also whether these stalks could be installed and work as a plug and play arrangement or would there need to be a different loom?

i have found one on the japanese yahoo site and have attached a pic of it so that you can see if yours has this and if it works etc? and which way it works too?

i would like to get one of these for my car but am eager to know what is required before i ask someone to get it for me.

cheers oxford

Im pretty sure it is so that the lights turn on when it is dark enough. In a tarago my parents had a few years back it had this function, it wasnt bad except for when you went through small tunnels they would flash on then go off pretty much instantly.

Im pretty sure you will need another loom, because with the tarago that we had it had a sensor on top of the dash that sensed the shades of light to determine whether to turn the light on or off etc..

I hope this helps

ahh man didn't everyone get this? its my favourite feature.....I forget to turn on the headlights in the Z these days.

They definately run a light sensor somewhere other than the stalk...not sure how to track down the whole thing.

my car already has a light sensor in the dash down close to the windscreen on the passenger side in between the heater vents, that is why i was wondering whether i could just put it in and play from there?

so i take it from the post above that it is only to turn them on once it gets dark? or does it also have auto shut off once ignition is killed?, also on a side note how would this go if you have a turbo timer? as you would already be away from the car with it locked when it shut off, so would this mean that the headlights would stay on???

Yeah it turns on the parkers, then the headlights as it gets darker, and turns them off when its gets lighter or when you open the door if the ignition is off.

And yes it does that annoying turn on the lights under bridges (eg freeway overpass) then turn em off again.

don't know about the turbo timer

k cool just wasn sure if it was worthwhile pursuing one, but by the sound of it, it may be worth chasing one down.

the one in the pic of first post comes as an assembly including the wiper stalk for 3000yen on yahoo so should be around 50-60 bucks aussie shipped? does that sound right?

if it works and have trouble with the time side of it i will just hafta piss the timer off i spose, cos its better than having flat battery after missus drives it (she has crumpldoor) and forgets to turn off lights!!!!!

Yeah the Prime Edition comes with this... which means I have it (wot you don't!!). Is is nice to have. I like it..... 'specially with Xenon's (wot you don't have these either!). ha ha..

If you are suer that you have the sensor then it shouldn't be too hard to fit.......otherwise.... hmmm who knows?

The lights do indeed turn off when you open the drivers door. Also the Courtesy light comes on when you unlock the car(and goes off when you lock it), But maybe this happens on the other models too.

The Auto lights are a bit late in coming on, at dusk (i find) except under my carport.... then they come on even in full daylight.... as for turbo timers... I have one, which as Sydneykid says is really not needed. So this does keep the lights on... but seeing as the engine is running ... so is the alternator, so it won't flatten your battery. My TT has a mind of it's own with no logic!!! It is set on 1 min. So it doesn't matter if it stays on, (and most times it doesn't).

i got them on mine but i dont think they turn off with ignition

Actually I think that you are right Mike.

The lights definitely turn on with ignition, they stay on when I turn the engine off, but as soon as I open the drivers door they go out, and the interior light comes on.

I think that it is pretty neat.

My turbo timer is so shit, that it hardly ever comes on when I think that it should. I have it set for 1 min, all the time, but it never works. Sometimes I turn the engine off, THEN the timer kicks and beeps its way down to zero!! WTF! oh well I really dont care about the TT. But it means that I cant test the lights to see if they stay on with engine running and door locked.... I imagine that they would.

k cool i will try and get this setup fitted to my car if i can get a hold of one from japan and as stated before with regard to the turbo timer. if it interferes with the lights not going off etc i will piss the timer off

this feature is great :) but the turbo timer is a bit of a kill joy at the end of the day.. typically you would turn off your car and walk away leaving the turbo timer to do its business (mines set for 1 minute) but if you walk away while the car is still on (lights included) then it shuts down, the lights stay on because the door hasnt been opened.. it would have been fantastic if there was a feature that turned the lights off after 30 seconds on the auto setting. so i find myself turning off my lights when i get out of the car of a night time anyway because they dont turn off otherwise! (unless i cut the turbo timer while im still in the car)

Yeah I have the same issue in the local supermarket carpark, it is underground, but have open places where the sun shines through, lights go on and off as I pass through them, meh it's not as if i am flashing my highbeams, it's just the low beams.

Still I cant count the number of times I flattened my battery in my old R33 by leaving the lights on, but never left them on in the stagea :P

hiya guys

just got an email back from slidewize imports, to buy the headlight gizmo would be around $250 aus delivered so am kinda thinking it may be a very expensive gamble to see if it works plug and play???

i would really like this function but wasn't expecting it to be anywhere near that expensive, does anyone know if there would be any half cuts at a wreckers with one of these sitting in it?.

if you know of anyone with a half cut could you please Pm me and lemme know details etc.

cheers oxford

$250.... honestly dude, how hard is it to take 10 seconds and think "its dark, better turn lights on" *flick* and then, "i've stopped, time to turn lights off" *flick*

Its like paying for a gearbox that THINKS for you about changing gears, oh wait, they exist, they are called automatic transmissions! But thats not to say that driving a manual car isnt like 2nd nature after a while, you just don't think about it.

Yeah, I have the auto light feature and think it is over rated, it really doesn't turn the lights on until it is too dark (for me anyway) so I always override it. If I turn the ignition off and open the door with the lights on (in normal lights on mode) I get "beeped" at...

mmm sarcasm detected but with all due respect alex if someone would like a feature like that well why not i mean after all its his choice and as for a manual gearbox yes it is second nature to push clutch move leaver let out clutch etc etc but hey in my case in traffic every day i apreciate the auto in my little white wagon. just my 2 cents

just to clarify for the sarcastic ones.

it is not i that requires the auto light jigger for the car it is so my girlfriend does not continue to leave the bloody lights on and flatten my battery again, as she is a crumpldore driver and her car has the light jigger on it.

i am quite capable of turning the lights off/on my self but she seems reticent to obtain this skill.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
