Gday, I was wondering what a rb25det Stagea 4wd engine is worth these days? I picked one up hoping to make my future Hr31 Passage a 4wd, cept then I found out whats required to do the conversion :woot: .

It doesnt have a crank angle sensor, starter motor, or turbo but comes with an automatic ECU. I also have 2 automatic gearboxes for it aswell, I was told that they are almost as strong as gtr gearboxes? What are they worth? and are they interchangeable with gtr engines?

One of the gearboxes came from a r32 gts4 and the other from (apparently) a r33 gts4. Cept I think the second one was actually from the same car, a stagea. They listed the engine as a r33 gts4 rb25det so I'm guessing they made the same mistake with the gearbox. - are both gearboxes the same? (considering that the r33 one is actually a stagea box)

Will pics help? I have some ready to post if it'll help.

Pretty hard to say...

I reckon you could get about $2.5k for the engine if all parts were there and working... espessially the turbo... so it would have to come down from there.

For the gear boxes... a gtst gear box would normally go for about $1k, i don't know the gts4 gear boxes well, but considering its a non-turbo, if its similar to the gts, it is not as strong and the ratios different... if its a stagea box... i have no idea

Hope this gives you a bit of an idea

If anyone has a different opinion... feel free to say so... cause this is a ruff estimate based on what I've seen :P

stagea egine is the same as a 33 engine and what do u mean with the auto boxs being a strong or interchangable with a GTR which are all manual.. i think anyone stupid enough to put a auto in their GTR doesnt deserve a GTR

with the bits missing u would be lucky to get 2K for the engine, and well only ppl with stuffed auto's would buy a auto box but i wouldnt think a auto box be worth anymore then a 4-500

ok thanks guys

I never knew gtr's where all manual, alright sweet learn something new everyday. So the GTS4 Auto obviously wouldnt be as strong, cause I have a r32 and stagea one afaik and the r32 would be a non turbo since r32 gts4's only came with rb20de's too. Is there a way to find out what the gearboxes are from? coding somewhere or a pic mabye?

I've come down to the decision to ethier keep the engine for myself and change the sump, or I'll sell it and put in a N/A engine. I picked up this engine pretty cheap though, and I'd rather utilize it if possible. I want to stay out of trouble with my engine so I was thinking since the car comes with a rb20det (red top) mabye I should just get a rb20de (which I already have) and use that cause then the compliance plate will say rb20det and I can say I just took the turbo off  or won't a rb25de be a issue with the cops anyway? I also had the idea of sticking the coil cover from the rb20 on the rb25 so it says 2000 instead of 2500.

I was told that you could run a turbo engine as a N/A engine, cept you would just loose a bit of performance, how much performance approx?

R32 GTS4 was a RB20DET. Mine (manual) has handled 180 kw through all 4 wheels, so I don't doubt the gearboxes are strong enough. The R33 GTS4 was N/A, because the RB25DET was almost as powerful as the RB26DETT.

You will have to swap the rocker covers if you want to use the RB20 valley cover (bolt pattern is different), but then the PCV system is different between the 2 engines.

If you run a RB20DET as N/A, I would have money on your 3-legged dog in a 1/4 mile sprint.

I dont think the stagea gearbox is the same as any other Nissan auto's. Ratio's are different and i beleive there is some problem with the bolt up of Stagea gearbox's to non stagea rb25. Dont quote me because i was a bit surprised about this when i heard it. Maybe it is the back of the auto box that is the problem rather than the bolt up to the motor.

Ah yeah, sorry rb20det on the r32 gts4 and rb25de on the r33 gts4. Are you saying the reason they didn't come with a turbo is cause it was too close to the performance of a GTR? Interesting....

The valley cover, ok now I know what its called lol. So the mounting bolts are in different locations are they? Oh well. Whats this PCV your talking about? - still a n00b :)

And running a turbo engine N/A will be really sluggish... that means I'll have to sell it, it isnt worth changing the internals just to put it in my car is it?

So your saying that the rb25det in a stagea is different than in a rb25det gts r33 skyline? (mounting)

Is the front diff (4wd sump) also different than r32 gts4's then? or are they all the same (including GTR)?

I dont think the motor is different but i have been told that if i ever blow up my gearbox (i own a stagea) that the only Nissan box that will fit is the Stagea box. As i said maybe it is something to do with the driveshaft end rather than the motor side. I am just passing on what an importer told me. He was looking for a replacement box and had tried a few other (not certain which) but said only the Stag box would work.

hey guys what do I do on the gearboxes, should I post it elsewere? can someone give me some links to Pics of the different gearboxes or something? I can get information on them, cept they are on a palete packed away so I don't want to get them down then find out no one has the answers im after.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
