Hey,

I've notice that Sydney will be holding a Skyline Show & Shine, I was just thinking it seems like a really good idea and maybe something a few of us could try and organize for all of us up in Queensland?

Probably would take a few people, may need to get sponsors for the event and also good word of mouth.

I read the last one they held on Central Coast had 97 cars to the event.

Anyhow, I guess this is more of a EOI and see what sort of response we get, be good to hear your opinions.

Thanks,

Aron

Hey Aron, probablly something you would need to run past/through the club mate...

Its been looked at before and the biggest issue is public liability insurance...

Mud and I could shead some light on this fact if nessary as we both looked into it in the past 2 years...

Its very costlly and hard to get, not to mention hire of a location and then you would need major sponcership to pay for the event (possiblly admission also)... There are a million things to look at that not many realise are needed (not just legal aspects)...

Example of a weird one is, you need enough toliets so there is one toliet for every 100 heads. So if the location you hire only has one male and one female that means you can only support a total of 100 heads as its assumed in the eyes of the law that there are equal numbers of males and females reguardless of the circumstances. So assume you attract 400 people you would need to then hire some portable toliets (which are rather expensive).

Happy to help you point in the right direction as I just finished helping AUSRODS (QLD Hotrod club) with their last show and shine event at Strathpine 3 weeks ago... So ive done it before and understand the hurdles and whats needed... More than happy to have a chat to you about it tho... :)

Anything NSW can do, we can do better.

Have another crack at it Col! Get on to Bunta and Shane and Benno? (are they still the events guys)

Worst case, lets all just meet in a carpark somewhere and hangout!!

Got show off my baby one more time before she goes to a new home :)

I approached the people at willowbank raceway with a view to allowing clubs to use their facility for show and shine, swap meets etc. They seemed quite keen to find extra uses for the venue but i still havnt heard back.

Might have to revert to the "Keegs" idea. :)

Agreed, lets just organise one massive gathering to the Spit or Broadwater carpark on a Sunday arvo...spread the word and they will rock up. The last time we went to the Broady on a Sunday arvo it was pretty empty and we took up pretty much one whole section of the carpark trying to make the words SAU :D

Yeah Im totally for the carpark idea, problem is that the popo generally see a group of cars and ask you to move on.

If you have 100+ skylines in one area with bonnets up and so forth they would have a field day.

Hence the importance of hiring a venue and doing it legit.

But as I said I just finished one with Ausrod and know the in's and out, legalities and the right way to do it if your interested.

If you wanta do a carpark thats fine but you would need to be very carefull, not to mention if a complaint is made by the owner/manager of said location, as then your in real trouble as it can be considered trespassing and the police can detain you and your vechicles.

ie. Like when they shut down Aspley McDonalds and run everyones cars through a shaker unit til the early hours of the morning...

Also hence why the SCC was done on "hired land", this way no one can be touched by said 'popo'

yes heard that line from somewhere..

event mods..? or should this be discussed on sauqld.com?

What is an "event mod" ????

You can do it anywhere, do it yourself you dont need someone to do it for you.

Grab a hold of the idea and do it, just do it.

Put together the idea, make a date and time and post it in the events section.

Link it to your signature and talk it up, simple as that. Just do it, no need for discussion unless you have questions on how to do it. Like I said more than happy to point out a thing or two and happy to talk about it either here, via pm or over the phone. Im more than happy to help you going in the right direction, but Im not going to orginise it.

You need to grab the bull by the horns and rather than just suggesting to do something go out there and plan it, then implement it and then execute it.

Looks like a few people would be keen for the Car Park idea, I'm guessing it would work too. Dyno Day is tomorrow, so maybe organize something after Brisbane Autosalon?

I think thats the best way to go. If people are cool with that I'll organize something with your guys help :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Our public liability insurance cost $55 from CAMS as we are cams affiliated. Affiliation costs vary on the amount of members your club has but not too much.

Hire of Granville Park was $234. We did have to ask about 8 venues before we got a yes that we were happy with. (Got 3 unsatisfactory yeses.)

show and shines are for leather and chrome and about 99% of skylines around here dont have that? why would would you wana have a show and shine to check out other people pod filters and coil overs? lol y not have a show and shine set up at a track day or something? then people can cheak out others mods and see them being put to use. skyline show and shine would be pretty boring otherwise lol

    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
