Has anyone got any idea if a RB26 harmonic ballancer is better suited to use on my RB30det compared to using a RB20det ballancer.??

THe RB26 ballancer is a bit bigger and has more weight to it when comparing to the RB20 one.

What are peoples thoughts??

I would recommend a good aftermarket (ATI) rb26 balancer if you want the thing to have a chance of staying together at those revs, the heavier dampner will do a better job of getting rid of harmonics fromm teh crank which is one of the suspected causes of oil pump failure.

yah funny you should say this, i was speaking to the some jap guys on tuesday and i mentioned that i was looking for a rb25 balancer to run on cats car to allow me to run r34 r33 gtst pwr steer pump (more crank to rad clearance) but they advised me against it as it is known to increase engine harmonics and oil pump failures.... its seems to be quite a normal swap here.

ill weigh them when i get home, but i dont think there is much weight difference as such between the ati and a std rb damper.

I think its their internal construction with their rubber rings and whatnot that absorbs more vibration and over a larger spread of frequency and converts that to heat more efficiently then a std one. I think they can make them to suit your motor specifically if they had one to test. I believe they say they can tune them (harmonic/frequency wise) to suit your motor and rev range.

Michael, Im interested to know the weight of the Ati balancer compared to stock if you can weigh it, id be great.

didnt have time to do it this arvo sorry. Tomorrow after work ill be going to parents house to work on race car. so ill weigh it then and report back. Of snap, i think our machinest has it for balancing with the rest of the bottom end. Dammit, forgot about that. Might be a while before i get it back too. My bad peoples.

Saw a nice RB26 POWERBOND balancer thursday at a trade show, 25% underdriven and 4.118kg. They list both differrent RB26 balancers, one for 1991-93 and 1993-on.

    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
