Hi guys,

I am having unfortunate feelings towards selling my skyline atm. I feel like getting something more practical and easy to live with (eg no cop or epa worries).

I have been browsing the market trying to get an idea and I have seen prices that are extremely low and extremely high. I get the impression it is a real buyers market out there at the moment and have seen people constantly bumping their for sale threads and heavily discounting their sale price. I am guessing all this is either a) through lack of interest, or b) prices set too high.

What are peoples thoughts on the market and more importantly experiences in selling there beloved cars? What would you pay for a 2nd hand: r32, r33, & the equivilent r34 gtst?

The other thought in my head is getting a RWC for a modded car. Is it hard to do? or better to put it to stock and sell cheap with RWC and sell parts separately?

Your thoughts and discussion would be appreciated

Regards

Adam

Yeah its weird times..

Ive been in the market for another skyline since Feb

And it if for sure a buyers market at the moment..And i feel it will get worse..

On car sales yesterday there were 3150 R32/33/34s for sale

Not to mention the 1s on SAU forums

Ive seen people start off asking 36 for a R33 vsec and let it go for 26

On the weekend a guy got 18 for a 33 GTR

Ive seen 33 GTSts going for 10/11

I know a guy with a GTSt sedan in VGC 5 speed you can have it for 8500..with Reg

thats my 2 cents

I sold my gtst late last year for 20k. Yes there are a heap of cheap skylines out there but I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for. Mine was advertized for 3 months before someone even came to look at it, then I had a couple of dreamers and finally someone who appreciates a car in good nick bought it.

The best thing you can do to get some cash back is remove the expensive mods because no-one pays any extra money for them....then be patient waiting for the right buyer.

Late last year i managed to sell my skyline for $17000.

It is a pain in the ass to sell as there are 1000 more out there. Its a buyers market and if you don't lower your price to something that your going to regret you wont sell it.

definatley a buyers market at the moment.

After chasing down a nice r32GTR 18 months ago i started to wonder on the devaluation and sorta freaked a bit when my 22000 dollar car i was babyn fell away to around the 19000 mark in 6 months ...

Now i can get one for even less with much better AM accesories.

its happening now that unmodified clean low KM Skylines will out value some individuals expencivley modified packages as less and less original cars become available.

As mentioned above, its certainly a buyers market. But that said I looked for 8 months before I saw a 33 that I was happy to look at more than once. There is a huge amount of junk for sale. If you have a quality car, you will eventually find a quality buyer.

Wait till after July, the price on 33/34 Skylines in VIC are going :(

The price for a std 32 gtst may actually go up, not sure what will happen with modified 32's, all depends on how the Police enforce the new laws.

Wonder how many P-platers are driving 32 GTRs :|

Its crazy, i wanna sell my 33, but dont think i will for at least 9 months :(

It seems the more 'compliers' there are for a certain import the more it will depreciate, look at GTi-R's, IMO theyve held up well and so will other cars with less compliers.

my 2 cents :)

my cousin has been looking for a 33 that isn't shit, with some mods.

problem is that you have to filter through a shed load of poo and still it's hard to find a well modified, unmolested 33...

I have an R33 with some mods. I wouldnt call it shit, although I guess shit is relative and is all in the eye of the buyer :worship:

sorry, I should have been more clear - I'm sure yours is nice :(

he's looking for one with possibly a built motor and 250+ kw at the wheels ;)

I should have sold him my old one :(

That's all nice and good, but is he willing to pay the extra or will he turn around and say; "too much man, you could get these now for $12K", to the seller.

In other words is he willing to pay $25K for a $60K modified car? :worship:

its been crazy... im always looking at the market everyday for the last 6 years because i have nothing better to at work... in the last 12 months R33s have dropped like a 2 ton lead testicle and R32s are now the same price if not more in some cases as a similar modified R33.

I saw a Series 2 the other day for $14k... had a bodykit and wheels and zorst and that was about it... when my cousin was looking about 3 years ago that same car would have been around the 18-20k+ mark.

Guess with the current state of our lakes, what with the water crisis, no one wants to buy boats anymore :worship:

i hear you Al, and I've been telling him he'll need to spend.

dammit if I added up all the cash i spent on the car in the last 12 months... I could have another.

i've had mine for sale for about 2 months now, had one person put a deposit down at $22K...but loan fell though.....have had ZERO interest since then. I'm thinking of selling some of the parts off it just so i can justify lower the price closer to the thousands of other 33's out there right now....

sux selling skylines right now, an it isnt going to get any better i dont think

Damn you would have been very lucky to get that 22k.

Yeah it was a huge pain in the ass. Had my skyline for about 3-4months before i even got a phone call.

Then it took about 4 people to have a look until the last one bought it.

    • I guess one thing that might be wrong is the manifold pressure.  It is a constant -5.9 and never moves even under 100% throttle and load.  I would expect it to atleast go to 0 correct?  It's doing this with the OEM MAP as well as the ECU vacuum sensor. When trying to tune the base map under load the crosshairs only climb vertically with RPM, but always in the -5.9 column.
    • AHHHH gotchaa, I'll do that once I am home again. I tried doing the harness with the multimeter but it seems the car needed a jump, there was no power when it was in the "ON" position. Not sure if I should use car battery jump starter or if its because the stuff that has been disconnect the car just does send power.
    • As far as I can tell I have everything properly set in the Haltech software for engine size, injector data, all sensors seem to be reporting proper numbers.  If I change any injector details it doesnt run right.    Changing the base map is having the biggest change in response, im not sure how people are saying it doesnt really matter.  I'm guessing under normal conditions the ECU is able to self adjust and keep everything smooth.   Right now my best performance is happening by lowering the base map just enough to where the ECU us doing short term cut of about 45% to reach the target Lambda of 14.7.  That way when I start putting load on it still has high enough fuel map to not be so lean.  After 2500 rpm I raised the base map to what would be really rich at no load, but still helps with the lean spots on load.  I figure I don't have much reason to be above 2500rpm with no load.  When watching other videos it seems their target is reached much faster than mine.  Mine takes forever to adjust and reach the target. My next few days will be spent making sure timing is good, it was running fine before doing the ECU and DBW swap, but want to verify.  I'll also probably swap in the new injectors I bought as well as a walbro 255 pump.
    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack.
    • Probably not. A workshop grade scantool is my go to for proper Consult interrogation. Any workshop grade tool should do it. Just go to a workshop.
