Hi guys

Getting prices from Nengun show that they are considerably cheaper than most of the other quotes ive gotten - under 3k for a set of 18x9.5 TE37s.

Should I not be so tempted by this and realize that I will be bitten by customs tax? Ive heard several people say that you may slip under the radar, but for some reason im doubting that a set of wheels will be able to... and even if they dont, Im wondering if the total cost will STILL be equal to or less than some of the other prices I have... Can anyone whos in the know, or has bought wheels from Nengun before, shed some light?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks heaps,

Andrew

I have bought plenty of wheels....and one thing I won't buy from nengun is wheels. Go thru some of the traders on here or ns.com. Their prices factor in all duties, tax and freight so at the end of the day you're not gonna be hit with unexpected costs.

Yeah figured as much. No big deal, thanks mate.

They quote you a delivered price and i have bought things from them worth more than 1k and it has never been more than they quoted me . Aaron.

Get the 4 rims sent to 4 different addresses, that they will all be under $1000 each and avoid any taxes and it wouild not be illegal to do

Never thought about that. I've only thought about getting the wheels sent one at a time to avoid taxes.

Its actually illegal if you paid for them at once i think you'll find.

Were you one of the kids that sat up the front of the class at school?

Buy them in 4 different names, mum dad sister brother etc. It is not that hard to work out

Keep in mind that customs will ask you to supply an invoice (via your customs broker) to prove the price of the items if they pull you up. If you only have one invoice saying $3000 then this wont work.

What does seating position in school classroom have to do with unlawful tax evasion?

If it does have something, maybe you were behind the portable on the weed and enjoying "high" time a bit too much.

Tax evasion is just that, and its illegal.

If you wanna talk illegal activites, i'll gladly send you on a holiday from the forum.

Packed nicely into a nutshell there :)

I agree, tax evasion is illegal, not disputing that.

But, wheels are sold price per wheel and are listed that way. So if you buy them one at a time and send them, you can not be breaking the law. That was my point.

If you buy a twin turbo "kit" for a GTR and split the turbos and send seperatly, yes then you are breaking the law.

    • If you take the top half of the intake off you can unbolt the flap off the shaft and leave the shaft in there blocking the hole. Then you can remove the little vacuum canister off from under the manifold and get a spare vacuum line to run to the ECU. I can take some photos of it later. Probably best to get the vacuum source to the ECU sorted first though. Mine all worked mint with the base map from the GTT an I've pretty much let the closed loop sort the fueling and took 1 degree out of the whole timing map.
    • This IS something you also have to configure in Haltech (or at least I did in the past when going from onboard-to-ECU map sensor and an external MAP sensor in haltech land).
    • I'm hoping it's something as simple as the ECU is looking for an external MAP sensor, but he is trying to use the onboard MAP sensor.
    • You won't need to do that if your happy to learn to tune it yourself. You 100% do not need to do that. It is not part of the learning process. It's not like driving on track and 'finding the limit by stepping over the limit'. You should not ever accidently blow up an engine and you should have setup the ECU's engine protection to save you from yourself while you are learning anyway. Plenty of us have tuned their own cars, myself included. We still come here for advice/guidance/new ideas etc.  What have you been doing so far to learn how to tune?
    • Put the ECU's MAP line in your mouth. Blow as hard as you can. You should be able to see about 10 kPa, maybe 15 kPa positive pressure. Suck on it. You should be able to generate a decent vacuum to about the same level also. Note that this is only ~2 psi either way. If the MAP is reading -5 psi all the time, ignition on, engine running or not, driving around or not, then it is severely f**ked. Also, you SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING IT WITHOUT A LOAD REFERENCE. You will break the engine. Badly.
