no skin off my back.. just dont do stupid things attract attention and you wont get caught and defected...

that's fookin laughable coming from you :)

i dont see how this is going to work. caus instead of writing a defect notice, the police will be writing a court hearing, and ull have to take time off work, and go to court just to get ur side heard. It'll only take 1 driver to win, and then put a case together and sue and this'll be thrown own. Well that's what im hopin :D

i feel its only a matter of time before someone here ends up in court over a non standard exaust of legal db level.

i dont drive my skyline every day to minimise my chances of being stung by some cop who didnt get any last night. I also understand about not being silly ive had my skyline for over 6 years and havent received a speeding ticket for 5.

I could piss a million words in the wind but ill just say this, i think there is too much grey area. I mean ur car should be accountable to transport and their legislation. The problem is what is legal with them is not always legal with the cops legislatoin.

thanks for the heads up on the mod plate place shanef, i feel like its my last line of defence :)

Predator and another Engineer that I consulted couldnt give me a mod plate for anything I have done to my car ;) they both said either it doesnt come under a modification judgement or is totally illegal (Microtech ecu) so I really should put the old bonnet back on I suppose, but I dont wanna, but will if they tell me to.

another point is that you won't be able to get anything for your car.

who wants to buy a car that can be impounded/confiscated???

if you keep your car sane (eg. not 5mm off the ground, 20in wheels, and 120dB exhaust) we should be fine.

i think you should be right if you stick to the QLD dept of transport modifying guide.

the thing that gets me is the fine for the driver or the car, i dont see that as being all that clear and usally when there is a grey area like that it will get turffed out in court (well here is hoping)

I just traded my bike on a new skyline :worship:

But in all seriouness how long is it going to be before the court system is backed up so far because of the huge number of people going in there for trivial shit issued by power tripping cops...

It could be better going to court then automatically loosing points and going to the pits...

Either way i cant see it lasting and even if it does there will be amendments sp*, just more examples of the country/state being run by people who have no idea about what is and isnt safe and or dangerous.

some one should give dept of transport a call and see if the basic mods such as fmic, larger exhuasts (within legal DB limits) bigger turbo's, aftermarket ecu and boost controllers, etc are actual defects they can send you to court for, i mean most of us have them or are going to put them on at one stage or another, so we should start making a list on here i say so we can check what is within the laws under this new legislation.

Just a point on exhausts, almost anything aftermarket is over the DB limit, stock HSV's are illegal and over the limit.... i hate the government..

well my exhuast is a kakimoto one with rear muffler and it is under the legal limit, but cannon style ones are hard to get under i guess. i just say we sit and wait it is f**ked though , we are citizens just like every1 else, and pay our taxes, why should we get arse rapped for crap when we are only enjoying our interests in cars, like some ppl spend there money on model planes, and get to enjoy a hassle free environment with those, i mean if u are doing silly stuff by all means , get busted, but for just having a car with some modifications that are aftermarket, that is a bit rediculous, most of them arent any harm to any1. like a bigger turbo etc and aftermarket ecu, they dont harm any1, sure they can increase hp but that is half the fun of owning and modifying cars. not all of us can afford to enter events like targa etc or stuff like that, so that we can enjoy our modified cars in a controlled environment. we should still be able to modify our cars for road use within the limits i say.

I couldn't find any mention of these "new Laws" on the QLd Transport website, however, their guide to modifications is still the same (jan 05) and as far as I am aware, as long as we stick to these, should be fine.

The only new laws publicised are with regards to the new P plater laws etc...

dont see whats funny shane..???

lol u want a how many hundred horsie gtr..?? rice HP is easier to get.. :)

haha

as far as i knw.. we are allowed 1 induciton mod. exhaust under certain dB and no change to ECU... wheels as long as within a certain percentage of change over the std rolling circumfrance..

nothing sticking out from front rear bar out from under guards. eg exhasut.. cooler, wheels.. :worship:

anyway.. night ya'll

Dont believe everything you read on boostcruising.

Like someone pointed out, if you read on the queensland transport site the modification guide is still the same as it has always been with no mention of change.

Sure the impounding thing is true, but you probably should do something about it the first time.

Hey Terry, what mods have you done to your car that you thought needed a mod plate. As i went to my mechanic asking the same thing and he told me all my mods are legal and i dont need a mod plate. As Skylines come factory with turbos and fmic you dont need a mod plate.

Its called an UPGRADE, well thats what i will tell the coppers. and all the other shit is well hidden. :)

All the usual mods or upgrades as mentioned, I just wasnt sure what was passable, I was fined earlier this year for the Microtech ($75 no points) and it was mainly that I was trying to clear but couldnt, I was told that I should take the microtech sticker off the front and hide the hand controller.

i do find this rediculous.

And in a business point of view i dont think the ACCC can approve this as a law anyway. as business's will be effected, eg. wheel manufacturers, Non Nissan/factory standard replacement parts manufactureres, and similar situations... eg. gauge manufacturers, and so on.

From what i have heard about this law is.. its not giving us the right to have a cheaper alternative, and therefor making the car wholesalers more profit.. eg. spending $180 on a new air flow meter, as to spending $70 to get a generic replacement of same or greater quality.

My car is as stock as a skyline can come about, but if i was to replace a broken BOV with a non standard plumb back, and save myself the money and hassle of obtaining a genuine Nissan Brand BOV.

And as for these new laws, i have seen no advertising, and no notice as to what you can, and cannot do.

the point of laws is to know them, so they cannot be broken, except by choice, not by negligence..

These laws only change the penalties imposed by already existing defect laws. If the modification on your car doesn't require a modification plate to start with you cannot be defected for it and in turn, cannot have your car impounded. People who believe you'll be going to court for an aftermarket pod filter are naive. It is outlined on the transport site what modifications are required to have modification plates and if you are worried about it, ask your mechanic or DOT yourself. These laws aren't going to change to much, it just pwn's the people with major mods and no modification plates who refuse to fork out for a mod plate after being caught numerous times.

The fear response is exactly what the police and transport rely on to stop people from a)modifying b)driving modified cars and c) contesting rediculous fines from police, threads like this and the one on boost cruising convey the exact message they want, modifying your car isn't worth it. What they don't rely on is people challenging police fines and actually figuring out what is and isn't required, do the right thing and stick it to them I say.

Not to mention courts will take into account things police do not when handing out fines. You can argue that an aftermarket exhaust, while louder, still complies with DOT requirements and is not requiring of a modification plate, including things such as other vehicles whos standard exhaust is just as loud as an aftermarket one. Arguments such as this will likely be successful in court, if argued correctly. Not to mention the massive enforcement issues with respect to fines and this legislation as a whole. Impouding other peoples cars due to the drivers misconduct isn't going to fly.

so I have a power FC with hand controller should i d/c the hand controller, other things I can see that would fail is Air Filters are not in a box and thirdly my exhaust will be to loud, when i bought it it had a restrictor in it which made it quieter but not very good for the health of the engine in the long run, so i pulled it out, it now sounds super tought but to loud.

What can u do about making a system quieter, it has twin 3" pipes into a 3.5" with Canon on the end ?

but a second muffler in the system or in your case 2, change the cannon to an better oval type as well or best talk to your local exhaust shop they will help you, just make sure you dont get conned, resonator is another one, change from mild steel to stainless or titanium?

    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
