Totally agree with you mate. I'd be willing to give the ebay ones a go. I am SURE that they will not break any faster than a brand name one. Why would it.

whats the fasination with the number 5 who says one from ebay wont last 5 years. Seriously like 1500-2000$ dvd units from the top name brand all cost the same price to manufacture give or take a little bit so dont kid yourself. You can buy a rolex in bali with the battery that charges itself of your movements for 30 bucks but of corse it isnt a rolex but they can still put that technology in it for like fraction of the cost. make you wonder how can these "big names" charge so much for there product. Anyway the ebay one will work fine just a matter of if you want to be cool and spend 2000 on a pioneer head unit just so you can say ohh mate i have a 2k headunit or you can just spend 350 and be happy because it does all that the pioneer unit does and more. not sure about the output of the pioneer one but who cares i would rather save 1000 bucks

That is the funniest thing i ever heard.

Yeah go ahead and waste your money on the EBAY one, but untill you compare the build quality on a brand name unit you wont understand what you are getting yourself into.

Now these days there are screens way cheaper than $1500 locally and brand name too with 3 year warranty. I know of one just under $1000.

We see the EBAY rubbish all day every day with people thinking a $200 unit is the same as a brand name one who took years of research and development.

Then go ahead and buy it. That is your choice to make. But please dont kid yourself that a Real ROLEX is made in China using cheap labour.

But i can assure you, a brand name well researched and developed unit, has MUCH MUCH better Sound quality, ergonomically much better designed and will have a much longer life than the $250 one, and has a lot more features. All Brand name equipment screens and DVD players are made in Japan, only their entry level CD players are made in offshore factories owned by the brand.

what you guys saying are all right non of you wrong.. it is true brand name has much better quality and feature. but.. depends on consumers whoever buy whatever product, if consumer satisfy with that, thats it.

not saying the peoples are studpid buying 1k product or $250 rubbish. no one can say that shit.

And you really think a ROLEX for $30 is as good as the real thing. Man you are dillusional.

clearly iam not saying that just saying that technology is avalible at a fraction of the price, it doesnt take a genius to put a watch together and same goes with stereo. I think having a 2000$ head unit is excessive when you will be running all your speakers through amps and even if your not the untrained ear cannot tell the diffrence between the two but the untrained eye can see the diffrence in your bank statement after you spend 2000$ or 350$ to listen to cds in your car. If we all wanted perfect sound in our cars we should just all drive around with our ipods in our ears but oh wait that will take away from the oh look/forcable listen (even if you dont want to you cannot get away from it as i drive past with my amps on 11) at my sick stereo installation factor

Remember the saying RUBBISH IN - RUBBISH OUT. Your amplifiers can help with headroom but what effect does that have on Sound Quality?

The Headunit is where its at unfortunately, and if you dont get this right then you spending bazillion dollars on amps and speakers its useless.

What you are telling me your $250 DVD headunits carry a 24 bit Mosfet Burr Brown chip? I seriously doubt it mate. There is a reason why there are different processors on the market and unfortunately I own a $30 Rolex, which stopped working the minute i left Malaysia, so your analogy doesnt really seem fit.

And another thing about sound quality, SURELY your expertise goes as far as knowing that the Compressed Ipod format is the worst for SOUND QUALITY.

As i said if you are happy with a $30 Rolex and wanna pose and show off then go ahead and make yourself feel good. But dont try to justify your reasons for buying it.

hey, i brought up this thread, cos i actually bought a double din DVD + TFT monitor unit off ebay. the brand names Belcanto and altogether, inlcuding freight, it cost $450. I gotta say, i am really surprsied with the quality. It is very clear and has given me no problem at all. Yes it doesnt look as sleek as a Alpine or a JVC unit but for a fraction of the cost, i found it to be really worth it. Installation wasnt a problem as well as everything was in english and was very straightforward.

had my cheapie double din in the stagea for nearly 12 months now it cost me 450.i didnt expect the bose type quality some of you guys want but it is just as good a sound as the so called brand name researched headunit that nissan decided to install.when i got the car the cd in it was rooted as usual i havent owned a nissan with a stock headunit that the cd dosnt skip if you run over a pebble.the cheapie performs well its dvd cd mp3 has reversing cam input and gps input both of which i have utilised.for my money im verry happy with my purchace.

Where can you get a jvc one for <600? brand new? I'll buy one tomorrow.

Like even in ricefield car radios, you're looking at over 1k for even a single din

JB- HIFI, i went in there 3 months ago and they offered it to me, might have been old stock cos it WASN'T touch screen but who cares

so on your bike son... go get yourself a double din

Gps input - I'm very interested in that. Can you please elaborate on this further?

e.g. is there a special plug that you use to connect the gps to it? do all gps have that plug? what does the plug look like?

do you get touchscreen control of the gps too?

Cheers

Chris

you need to buy the specific one for the unit, its like marrying the dvd player to the gps unit for it to work 100% together

its like when you get a screen, and you have their TV tuner, you need the specific tuner to plug into the screen for it to work correctly, same as the GPS unit in order to incorporate the touch screen sound and all that stuff on your tv screen.

That is the funniest thing i ever heard.

Thats why i bought the $1000 pioneer 9850bt cd player, go for the best and have no problems, has been sent back twice and the blue tooth hands free (one of the reasons for buying it) dos'nt connect to my nokia properly and always drops out when i can get it to connect, no fix for that, pioneer are blaming nokia for the problem, although the old blue ant hands free i use in the truck is older than my phone and has no problem connecting or keeping the connection, but the head unit that is around the same age as my phone cant keep a connection and its nokia's fault??

If i had bought a $250 ebay unit i would expect this shit and not be so pissed off but when you buy the top of the line product you expect better than this, wont be buying pioneer again.

guys i changed my mind... i bought ebay one and installed.....

yes they had reason why they are so cheap...

the engine noise.... the dvd player doesnt produce enough power... not the wattage they produce.. the voltage they produce...

they made of cheap fu$kn wires or components..

i tried filters through ignition wire and everything to get rid of the noise... cant.. just cant.. because it has problem with deck

never buy cheap electrical stuff from ebay...yes it does go wrong....

~!@#$%^&

Hence why we are discussing units used for CAR AUDIO PURPOSES only and to play music with no inherent noise problems and malfunctions.

If u wanted Bluetooth perhaps a phone kit would have been a better option.

    • The car/ECU will have all the sensor that it needs and expect to have. I think i do not have to explain to you how the Link is way better specialy if you have swapped engine   I just do not want to deal with any "problems" cuz i have only Nistune which i learned is not that great and in my case cant even deal with that speed problem (Link can) And of course it will be way more easier to tune and diagnose and safe. And for the ECU/speed problem...i dont know.
    • Per Mark Roberts of Sonictune: Mark Robert Author At this time, no. No ETA either 2016-17 models. You will be able to purchase and install a 2018.5+ TCU though   TCU purchasing and pricing info! As we near the release of TCU tuning, I am going to answer some questions I get asked often.   What do I need for TCU tuning? At this time, you will need a 2018.5+ TCU to be able to tune. If you have a 2016-to early 2018, you will need to replace your TCU with the newer version. One good way to know if your TCU is good is if you have auto upshift in manual mode in 1st gear around 6500 rpms. If your manual 1st gear goes to 7k rpm and will hit the rev limiter unless you shift, you have the older TCU.   Why do I need to buy another ecu license/phone flash if I already have it on my ECU tune? The TCU is its own computer module. It is completely separate from the ECU. Because of this, you will be required to purchase a TCU license and, if your tuner has it, the phone flash license required to tune it via phone/bluetooth.   Do I need TCU tuning? TCU tuning is NOT required. However, the faster your setup, the more it will assist in track and dragy time consistency.   If I’m ECU tuned by (tuner A) can I get my TCU tuned by (Tuner ? Yes, since it’s a different module and a completely separate flash, you can have two different tuners. However, it is highly recommend that you have both tuned by the same tuner. For me, my TCU tuning will directly complement my ECU tuning style and features and running my ECU and another TCU or vice versa MIGHT cause some issues. At this time and for the foreseeable future, I will only be tuning my current ECU tuned customers TCUs.     I have a SYVECS AWD controller. Do I still need it? Yes! The AWD controllers main job is to control your AWD system. However, with TCU tuning, you will no longer need the auto-shift function as that will be done through the TCU. The AWD controller will still be very beneficial for racers looking to maximize traction on the launch.     Shift schedule changes: holding gears longer at lower pedal input as well as max shift rpm changes. Please note, the new ECU race rom coming out will address 90% of the shitty drivability issues these cars have through custom maps from myself and Racebox—as well as others I am sure.   Increase shift speeds: as seen in the videos I’ve been posting, the TCU shifts much faster once tuned.   Increased shift pressures: as also seen in the videos, much firmer full throttle shifts.

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
    • Very good news...I contacted Racebox about it last night. My car is a 2016 so remains to be seen if it is compatible, requires a TCU swap, or is impossible.
