you wont find a better way to get optimal boost control, it will literally cut off as soon as the gate opens where most spike then tapper back down

Fair enough. Regulating boost is one thing, but i would be more worried about turbulence in the housing from having a 32mm (guesstimate) branch coming out of the side. The scroll sees a change in velocity, diameter etc. I figure it would be the last place you want to disrupt air by making it go one way or another (isnt that a fault with internal wastegate housings...the air has to turn at a tangent to the main flow of air?)

Anyway, could be on of those things that in theory is wrong in application or doesnt matter in the real world ???

i agree...but in a wide open throttle drag car on a transbrake i don't think it would really affect performance.

Hi Mate. The stock turbo never went anywhere near 300kW at the wheels. When the story in HPI was written, the 300kW comment came from me being asked how much power I thought it made to run 120mph. With its weight at the time and the terminal speed, I came up with a figure of just on 400hp at the engine - I converted this to kW for the benefit of HPI and that was that. The most the car ever made on a chassis dyno was 265kW (see attached graph). Without the nitrous, the car made just over 190kW (255hp) at the wheels which is about right for a maxed out standard turbo on a half-decent pump fuel tune. (I know that others have made more than that by 20 or 30kW)

Good luck with the rebuild, mate. It sounds like it should be a good thing. Make sure you take it to the track.

Adrian

shit eh, i wonder when the gas kicks in :)

Are you going to use the NOS shot with the new setup?? Again, I suspect this is going to be a damn fast car soon.

Not straight away but yes.

What was the reason you went for the gate on the housing?

Optimal boost control.

Also, did the manifold get match ported to the head? In the pics it seems as though the exhaust ports are very round, doesnt seem to be the typical shape?!?!?!

Not exactly but I'm happy enough with that they've done to the head for it not to matter. Plus there are enough RB's out there running this type of manifold with results on the board that I would be stoked to replicate.

I sit back and think of your car back in 2000 when it was sitting at BD4s and was getting punted at tracks with corners smile.gif

A racetrack is no place for corners.

lol yeah a sad decline. I'm working with Paul that originally owned this car at the moment - he's currently got a golf gti and has had about 5 cars since he sold this one - I reckon he is still missing it

I heard he went gokart racing instead?!? WTF?

looks like a killa setup your peicing together dude, cant wait to see the results

Thanks man - me too!

i just want to know how the grape pikelets with maple ricotta went?

mmmmm....yummo!

Fair enough. Regulating boost is one thing, but i would be more worried about turbulence...velocity....tangent.....blah blah....snip!

I don't think it matters in terms of the application.

shit eh, i wonder when the gas kicks in :P

The people watching at the dyno day weren't expecting that to happen. Least of all John P @ UAS.

Picked up the new manifold and modified exhaust housing today. Both the manifold and exhaust housing have been coated with the latter being modified to accept the 50mm Turbosmart Pro Gate. They look sensational. Leigh from Extreme Turbo Manifolds does exceptional work! Couldn't be happier!!!

Completed assembly:

If it has this plate, it rocks!

Beat that!

does leigh do the coating, or did you get it done somewhere else? i'm thinking of getting a manifold off 6boost, what do people think?

Leigh organised all the coating, i just collected the finished products. There are a heap of fast cars out there using ETM and 6BOOST gear but i can only comment on the exceptional work of ETM.

So do fake cars with fake motors that don't exist. :D

Tell everyone the truth, you just find photos on the net, and post them up saying it's your car!

ahhaha

the real 2RISMO is no where to be seen!

Bwaahahaha!!

My secret shame, I guess :)

Would you believe we had to buy Bobo's beer for him as he was (is) a starving actor?

Check this weapon out!

And jase, I went straight from the 49FWkW Mirage to the Skyline. Everything else has been daily drivers in the mean time.

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
