Hey

Not sure if i should post here or in the skyline section, but i just went for a drive and while rolling at about 90kmh in 5th, take my foot off the throttle, put the clutch in, ease on the brake then all of a sudden it stalls, all lights on the dash come up, no power steering, it has been doing the same thing since about a couple of weeks ago just randomly, normally the revs just drop right down and then come straight back up to idle but this time it completly stalled, the car runs fine when coming to a complete stop everywere else, it just seems to do it at the same peice of road just before my house (no, im not saying the road is causing it lol). any ideas on what could be causing the problem? its not a vaccum leak cause if it was it would stall while its idling, im running the stock bov ,im stumped as to what it could be, O2 sensor of afm maybe?

I could plug in my PFC and do a sensor SW check and get the reading of all the sensors? would this tell me anything?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers

would hestitate at any revs and any time

stalls, and wont start for a few turns of the key, then drives normally

im replacing my afm, if i watch the graph vs afm signal, im getting vertical drops in the signal randomly

what if it is the road?.. It could be haunted..

Do not take this as a joke.. :D .

Some say that there are certain places on the Earths surface that have a magnetic anomaly...

(A word I have always wanted to use)

This causes cars to stop..or..electrical faults to occur. :D

It can also cause drivers to fall asleep or faint at that point..causing major problems...even accidents.

These spots can change or can always occur constantly at one point. :laughing-smiley-014:

Heard of the Devils Triangle?

This can explain..all of the faults we experience in our cars.. and we can blame these anomolys(twice in one night..yippi):D

I am not in anyway in charge of myself at this point..so whatever I have said should not be held against me.

Get a second hand AFM....

If that does not fix it......try changing your TPS...then sensors as a last resort..unless you can get them cheap..

You will need to change your tps.....in the short future anyway..due to age of car.

It can also be an electrical fault..or computer is playing up..some can get that way...If you can find one to plug in..second hand and see if this fixes it.

Could also be pressure drop in fuel...check your pressure lately?Or injectors get sticky....and clogged..try some fuel additive......EDITED:(This is an add on).

So you guys reckon afm? im thinking that aswell, the car does hesitate and surge somtimes but nothing to major, just seems weird that all of a sudden it has got a problem, might take it into nissan and see what they think :D

Yea i think i will just do that, or buy a cheap 2nd hand one, i dont want to buy a brand new one as i need to get my z32 afm in the future anyway, it happen again today by the way, ive checked all the pipe for splits and lose hose clamps but everything is fine, ive checked all the intake pipe setup and bov return line aswell and all is fine, so im leaning towards it being the afm, would a faulty afm cause it to only stall randomly ,if the afm was fauly wouldnt the car run like crap??

Ive checked all the intercooler piping, intake pipe and bov plumback line, vacuum hoses and tightened all the hose clamps ,everything looks fine to me, im running the stock ecu at the moment, but if i have to i could plug in the PFC and see what the airflow voltages are while im driving.

Is there anyway i can test the afm to see if it is faulty? would a dry solder/joint cause the problems im having, i thought that a broken joint/solder in the afm would cause the car to run completly crap and hardly drive at all?

cheers for all the help, would be great if i could get some more opinions :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Mine does this as well, stalls when coming to a stop from 3rd/4th/5th. When it dies, power steering goes away, brakes go hard, all the dash lights go on etc. Mine is 100% stock so it isnt a bov issue. I need to get this fixed because i cant use the brakes properly when coming to a stop since they harden.

Would a dirty afm cause this sort of stall? Im pretty sure the battery might need replacing too, because when i bought the car it had been sitting garaged for quite some time (long enough for the battery to die).

What else can i check? Searching the forum also suggested aac lines but im not confident enough to check it out myself just yet. The car will have to get a roadworthy in a week or 2 anyway so i can atleast tell the guy about what is happening. It only started doing it this last week; it was fine before that and passed a rwc last month.

I havent really driven it since it is unregistered. (only to and from vic roads)

Also, i was told just before i boguht it, it may need injector cleaning; would carbon build-up cause something like this?

Im just trying to narrow it down.

edit: stalled about 3 times to vic roads, maybe twice or 3 times on the way home

It starts first time always; although it does make a sort of high pitch noise for a second or 2 when i start it sometimes after its been sitting for a day or so.

Guess ill just have to get it checked out; i wouldve liked to solve it by myself though.

  • 1 month later...

Bit of an update

Just bought a 2nd hand recondition AFM, changed it over today and no difference at all :( so im a bit stumped, i can actually make the car stall on purpose, for instance i can be in 5th gear at about 90kmh,give it a bit of throttle then just before it starts boosting, put the clutch in and put the brakes on slighty (it dosent stall without the brake not being on) and the revs will just drop and car will stall, it likes it just cant catch its idle.

Anymore ideas on what it could be? the car runs great apart from this problem, not sure what to check next, 02 sensor? idle valves? TPS???

Might plug my PFC in on the weekend and check the TPS values etc etc

Any more help would be awsome, cheers guys.

    • That's not a transistor --- it's marked ZD1 which makes it a zener diode. As to what the breakdown voltage is, not enough there to divine.
    • Hi all, Long time since I've posted here. Looking for some advice on what I can remove to further identify the cause of my issues.  I can move the passenger seat forward and back but the knob used to adjust the seat angle is pretty much free spinning, there's very little resistance.  Removing the side cover I can see that the chain is intact but the shaft for the adjustment spins without the gear attached to it moving.  What's my next step for disassembly here? Is this a common fault? Just being a little cautious as I didn't want to start removing bolts for a spring to fly out or something equally as stupid.  Cheers
    • The incentives are mostly the same, yes. Ethanol is cheap compared to the cost of doing 98-100 RON with crude oil alone. 87 to 93-94 AKI all with E10. In 2020 Canada mandated E10 as a part of their "renewable fuel standard" and is supposedly going to go to E15 in 2030. In California where there are only 8 refineries with two threatening to shut down next year it's been over 20 years now of E10 and 91 AKI maximum because there's just not enough refinery capacity or crude oil supply relative to the demand for premium unleaded fuel. And CARB's low carbon fuel standard means functionally none of the diesel available at the pump is made from crude oil anymore. It's almost all entirely 20% biodiesel blended with 80% renewable diesel (hydrotreated vegetable oil) now. The number of gasoline vehicles that support E15 or higher ethanol concentrations is surprisingly low, I can't imagine it being wise to play tricks like this without flex fuel sensors in most of the fleet.

If fitting aftermarket or coil-over suspension components you must submit an Application to modify a light motor vehicle form and a report from a light vehicle engineering signatory (LVES).
