I have a GReddy Oil Cooler kit located BEHIND my Intercooler and in front of my radiator.

Was wondering if it would perform better if i moved it to the side of the bar (it has vents and can get all the ait it needs)

Was speaking to someone at a reputable workshop and they advised that most cars run it behind the intercoolers in the middle as the sides have disrupted air? <-- don't really know what that means but i take it that it doesn't recieve nice flowing air.

So who has their oil coolers on the side or has had them there?

Any temp differences?

If it makes any sense, i have a R34 GTT with a Nismo front bar.

Anywhere where it will get maximum airflow without hindering the performance (heating up) of any other cooling device (intercooler, radiator etc.)

If you put it out of the way of the intercooler but in the way of the radiator that would be the best spot without any major modifications imho.

Radiator should be able to cope, if it does cause an issue main way to cool your engine (i have found) isnt additional capacity in the radiator, its raising your bonnet at the back and venting at the back, works like a charm.

Hey Dude,

I have just fitted mine to the side.. inside wheel well,i wouldnt put in front of a radiator as although you will be taking heat away from the oil you'll be adding some back into the waer via the radiator.The best position is away from the intercooler and radiator, you can hard mount it when the hoses are long, easiest way for fitment is by removing the headlight and front bar on a R33 it may be the for a 34, good luck with it. cheers

i can't do this myself cauz i;'ve never taken these things apart.

Nor can i fabricate brackets/mounts to fit on the site.

Have to see what some performance shops will charge me >_<

Nows the best time to start! Its just bumpers, some brackets, inner guard liner etc. Get stuck into it, just stick it all back together

Prolly your family's arms and legs as well. Its the labor that kills you. Search this forum for some guides and inspiration. Might not be as hard as you think. Its just large scale Meccano :D

the side duct is the BEST place to put it. you will need to make a vent in the rear of the guard liner though for the air to escape, but once done you now have a much better set-up.

I'd like to mount my oil cooler kit where the stock intercooler used to be and perhaps fabricate an air guide to it. I drive an R34 and will probably do it myself. If i get it done prior to you, I will try to put together a guide.

Good guide for an R33 and should translate to R34. Great location too.

its not a case of finding the best location gives you more power (like a fmic), but rather its purpose is to just regulate oil temps and keep them under control. if its doing that job already, then there isnt any need to move it.

^^ pricelessly, you'll prolly find the position between i.cooler and radiator is fine.

Just thought i'd move it to save trouble later on if it does occur.

My favourite spot is to have it on the side. There is room on r32s and r33s to run the lines underneath the headlight and put it on the right hand side.

I prefer this, because it has its own dedicated airflow. Also, its neater, because you don't have to run the oil lines either over or under the radiator (messy)

Just a heads up. I fitted a greddy oil cooler and relocator kit to a r32 gtr. Oil cooler between the ac condenser and intercooler. It's a bitch of a job to do. Will never do it again !.

Has anyone else got this set up ?

Have you taken your car to the track and did it keep your oil temperatures down ?

Cos if this setup can't take a track outing once in a while I will not be happy in relocating the mother

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
