Vic I got a bar fabricated out of Chromoly (which is heaps light and strong as you probably know), which bolts into the holes for the 'holy cow' handles in the back seat.

To attach the camera I got a RAM GPS camera mount from GPSoz - These work brilliantly.. you cant even move the camera by pushing HARD on it when the thing is locked

The camera pictured above is my old camera.. The new one I've got is a Sony HDR-HC3. It records to DV tape in High Definition (1080i resolution). I'm absolutely blown away by the quality. Those videos I posted are hugely compressed obviously. The video that comes out of the camera is h-u-g-e. 2.1GB for 10 minutes. I've tried burning the video to DVD, but it looks shit compared to the original quality. DVD hasnt got the bandwidth to take 1080i resolution so I have to wait for BlueRay, or just store the video in AVI... I have nearly 19GB of footage from the track day (just 1.5Hrs) - lol

Aww thank you Andrew *proud look* all this time I just thought I was being totally biased LOL I had quite a few people ask me on Saturday if I wanted to sell it and I've only had it for about 6-8 weeks... it was a great boost to my confidence in buying the right car (not to mention my ego) LOL

haha we watched it a few times and commented on the fact you didn't say something like WTF!! Probably too busy pulling your heart back out of your throat.

It was my first time on this track with the GTR. I was running street tyres and pulled 1.15's. Definitely not getting the same grip as I can get with the GTS-T using Federal 595RS's, you really feel them bite in and grab, but very happy with the GTR handling. I need more practice out there though and can't wait until I wear out my Falkens so I can put some 595RS's on it.

I love My 595RS's Im glad there is another fan out there!

Seeing this thread has really inspired me to pull my finger out to be ready for November! Benn nearly a year since My last trip to that track!

I got it fabricated at Macquarie 4x4 at Windsor - My dad is mates with the guys there, and they are a major importer and distributor of Chromoly tubing. They use it to make roll cages and custom fabricated bars for custom 4WD's. I just drew up the design of the bar, and gave them my car for the day. They fabricated it perfectly, so it was an easy process.

It ended up costing me about $150 for the bar from memory, but included a bit of extra labour cost in 'getting it right' as they said. I was toying with the idea of doing a group buy considering I could probably get the bars fabricated cheaper as they could just copy mine. I ended up giving up on the idea because i doubt that people would want to pay this amount of money for a camera mounting solution.

Lets say the bars could be made for $125ea, you need to add to that $75 for the ram pivoting camera mount. I think that $200 is probably a bit too much for most amateurs - and thats not even covering my time and petrol getting to Windsor to pick them up :D

What do you think? Would you guys pay $200 for something like this?

Hi William - you were going hard out there... I have some great video footage (Scott using my vidcam) of you really giving it some at turn one. Looks like you had a lot of fun and know your car well. We all thought your lines were pretty good as we watched the vid Sat night. I'll have to get a copy to you, you will love it.

You should look at coming down for some of the 'Speed off the street" days at Wakie for $100 a day.

Heya,

yeh I'm pretty hooked with the Z. It's quite a challenge to drive it and I'm knackered after every session of wrestling it.......hehhehe.

Yeh I can't seem to exit turn one with enough grip by carrying that sort of pace through it. I have a shonky 280ZX turbo long ratio box so have to try to get a decent line up the hill or I'm out of the power band.

I get my inspiration from this:

Hey glad I got a spot that day just rocking up out of the blue :laughing-smiley-014:

I've IM you about the vids.

Yeh was an awsome day, was happy just filming it and seeing you both doing awsome.

Mchele, are you able to put the vids on a CD for me? I will send it to Will and edit it a bit and put it on youtube too.

Oh yeh and after all that jerky footage, i found my video camera tripod when i got home. >_<

Scott

I would have jumped at that frame, only I just paid more than that for a suction setup which I will trial first... if it doesn't give me what I want, then I would definitely pay that much for a decent frame.

Scott - Sure, only too happy to pass the files over, you did a great job... (please only publish the ones where I look fantastic hahaha) and I loved the suckey thing enough to tear out and buy one this week and will try it out for the texikhana.

I should clarify, I didn't buy the suckey thing from Fyshwick... its not that type of suckey thing.

lol!

What do u mean? what other type of suckey thing???

Well you can get all sorts of suckey and vibrating things out at Fyshwick these days... including blow up sheep.

Hubby was wondering what on earth anyone would do with a vibrating ear... before I told him it wasn't an ear

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
