R33 has way more class then the R32, is smoother, and is better for cruising than the r32 and still goes harder. Skyline is way more practical than the 180 or supra, you will appreciate this further down the track. The skyline is the best daily driver out of the lot of them.

the way I see it, there are 2 problems with the old supras.

1. - Electric seats weigh like a biggest loser contestant on their first day.

2. - 7mgte has a bad rep for headgasket blowing.

this car has resolved both these.

recaro reclining seats.

1jz conversion.

asking price is like $10K.

it will tear most skylines on the road a new bunghole.

RX7 wouldnt be that good, as rotars need regular mainenance. If you dont, you wont get away with it for very long, where as an RB/SR is more tolerant in that sense.

Plus the electrics in the RX7's are fairly crap, and the car it self is just too old.

This is my personal opinion..

R33 is good as it has the RB25, but thats pretty much all its got going for it. Exterior wise I reckon they look pretty plain and dont have much going for them.

I mean, they are a newer car, refined production, and thing such as as the drive line have been much improved from the R32.

That being said, I would still take an R32 over an R33 any day. I was hesitant to get mine as I do like power, and get bored of it pretty quick as most do. RB25 would be, or would have been a better option performance wise, but I cant see my self driving an R33.. there so boring to look at.

Future plans for my car would include a different motor, Rb25/26, after that an R33 will have nothing on me! :)

Its 50/50 in favour of R32 and R33.. just comes down to personal choice.

Why are you even considering a Japanese import? Buy a commodore/falcon and enjoy lots of torque at low rpm, quiet and easy highway cruising <2000rpm, cheap servicing (as you'll obviously cover lots of kays), and the fact that any mechanic in Australia will have spare parts.

Hmmm yes and further enjoy the fact that (in the case of the commodore) you have one of the worst most unrefined transmissions put into a car, horrible sounding V6, boat to drive, the most common car on the road....

I drove a VY SS Commodore on the weekend.... I cannot describe how underwhelmed I was... I thought the massive torque would highly impress me... My parents 3.5 Magna v6 feels more torquey/responsive down low... In my 5 minute drive the transmission was caught out 4 times with a loud bang and clunk after over a second from my input through the accelerator... mmm gotta love that response! So much road noise! A real dissapointing car.

But yeah go ahead, buy a commodore

r33 gts-t or r34gtt 4door both modern, nice driving, responsive around town and return reasonable fuel economy.

Depends what you consider good fuel economy. I'm lucky to get even close to 350kms from a full tank of premium. My car has a power filter and exhaust and I consider this to be pretty poor! It doesnt matter it I thrash it or drive it like a nan it just guzzles it!

ha k. first of all.. everyone saying " 33's are soo common. there everywhere.." i swear i see more 32's than 33's , granted i do live in the north east subs so i guess i dont see as many as sum. but today.. there's just as many 32's as 33's IMO.. just my 2c. oh any grab a nice S2 33. for 15K.. prices are getting low and i dont think you would look back.. either that.. or a nice s14... i have always had a soft spot for em.

gees why are so 32 owners so keen to bag 33's? the 33 is just a better car than the 32 gtst.

There are more of them because they just are a better car - why buy something in the year 2007 which looks so old ie a match box with tail lights and has a heavy paper weight for an engine. GTR of any model > 34 tt > 33gtst > 32gtst.

I used to own a 32 and now i moved up to a s2 33. If you're considering a 32 or 33 - as someone who has owned both i would definitely consider the 33. No need to be gay and save for 5 years for an engine transplant when the rb25 provides enough power for a quick street car and to be a great cruiser. By the time you have blown like 5 grand on a new motor plus all the supporting mods and fabrication it'll be time to move on anyway.

As for fuel i get around 450ks a week - in my 32 i got around the same. I cant see the reason you would consider the older slower model when the newer is better and for everyone who says oh its so common get the f**k over it anyone with 15k would buy a 32 they just prefer the 33.

hay buddy ive driven all of the cars u have posted and have owned 2 supras a n/a and a tt.

u wont finf fuel economy in a supra buddy they are an awesome car to drive but honestly for 15 k u can get ur self a better car heres howit goes for me buddy

33 dont waste ur time

supra - definately fun but u will be searching for boost but u will keep up with standrd 33s and beat 32s

32s nice but lack the feel of the rb25

180sx - for 15 k u can get urself an awesome 80 they are a mad car imo

also check out an rx7 series 5 mate

I'll add my 2 cents - As a daily car, I'd get the R33 or the Supra. R32 and 180sx are getting a tad too old and it's getting difficult to find a good example that will be reliable; even the later model 180's lack refinement.

In a comparison between a 97 Type X 180 and a 97 R33, you can feel the R33 is far better built. The 180's rattle like a b*tch and the ride isn't as smooth. It just lacks the research and development that was put into the Skyline. Don't get me wrong, I love the 180, it was my first car... they're fun to drive and all if you like to go sideways often, but when selecting a daily driver there are far better options. (And definitely stay away from the CA18... unless it's been rebuilt. Every single one that I've known has gone pop because they're getting on in years.)

And I agree with the person that said R33's aren't more common than the others. On Brissie's Southside, I see far more 32's and 34s than anything else. In a count one night, I saw 12x 34Gt-t, 8x R32s and 3x R33's. I notice this trend occurring frequently as imports have become more popular and prices of 34's have dropped. R33s=more common? Definitely NOT; may have been the case once, but no longer.

    • I think the concept is highlighting the various scenarios where thicker oil helps, and thicker oil potentially doesn't help and only generates heat and costs power, in turn for safety which isn't actually any safer (unless you're going real hot). If anything this does highlight why throwing Castrol 10w-60 for your track days is always a solid, safe bet. 
    • Jason should have shown a real viscosity vs temp chart. All the grades have very little viscosity difference at full operating temperature.

    • Yep, if you are applying filler it sounds like there is something wrong with the body lol. Safe to assume there is going to be a lot of sanding going on if your still applying fillers.  Picture a perfect bare metal panel, smooth as glass. You lay down your primer, it's perfect. (why are you going to sand it?) You lay down the colour and clear, it's perfect. No sanding at all took place and you've got a perfectly finished panel.  You won't be chasing your tail, sounds like you were prepping to start laying filler. If your happy with the body after the sanding, there is some bare metal exposed and some areas with primer, no issues at all, start laying the filler. You are safe to lay filler on bare metal or primer (of course check your technical data sheet as usual for what your filler is happy to adhere to).  This isn't a 100% correct statement. There is primer that is happy to adhere to smooth bare metal. There are fillers that are happy to adhere to smooth bare metal. Just make sure you're using the right materials for the job.  Typically if you are using filler, you would go primer, colour and clear. I've never seen any instances before where someone has laid colour over body filler (maybe this happens, but I haven't seen it before). So your plan sounds pretty normal to me. 
    • I don't think there's any way someone is push starting this car.. I honestly can barely move it, and moving it and steering it is just flat out not possible. I'm sure it is, but needs a bigger man than me. I have a refurbished starter now. The starter man was quite clear and consise showing me how nothing inside a starter really should contribute to slow cranking, and turned out that for the most part... my starter was entirely fine. Still, some of the wear items were replaced and luckily it didn't show any signs of getting too hot, being unfit for use, etc. Which is 'good'. I also noticed the starter definitely sounded different, which is a bit odd considering nothing should have really changed there.... Removed and refit, and we'll pretend one of the manifold bolts didn't fully tighten up and is only "pretty" tight. GM only wants 18ft/lb anyway. I also found a way to properly get my analog wideband reading very slightly leaner than the serial wideband. There's Greg related reasons for this. The serial output is the absolute source of truth, but it is a total asshole to actually stay connected and needs a laptop. The analog input does not, and works with standalone datalogging. Previously the analog input read slightly richer, but if I am aiming at 12.7 I do not want one of the widebands to be saying 12.7 when the source of truth is 13.0. Now the source of truth will be 12.65 and the Analog Wideband will read 12.7. So when I tune to 12.7 it'll be ever so slightly safer. While messing with all of this and idling extensively I can confirm my car seems to restart better while hot now. I did add an old Skyline battery cable between the head and the body though, though now I really realise I should have chosen the frame. Maybe that's a future job. The internet would have you believe that this is caused by bad grounds. In finding out where my grounds actually were I found out the engine bay battery post actually goes to the engine, as well as a seperate one (from the post) to the body of the car. So now there's a third one making the Grounding Triangle which is now a thing. I also from extensive idling have this graph. I have not actually put the formula into HPTuners. I will have to re-engage brain and/or re-engage the people who wanted more data to magically do it for me. Tune should be good for the 30th!
