RB26 sump - remove the diff, a decent fabricator should be able to do this quite easily.

The 26 sump gives support to the block, the 25 sump etc is very very thin.

Go with what Nissan designed :P

don't have one. don't wana buy one. heaps of people have used the 20/25/30 sumps, just wana know wat combination is best. as much as i'd like to use a 26 one. it'd cost to much to do. a; the purchase.. and then b; the mods and cost of welding. anyone heard or seen anything about the highenergy sumps?

have ya looked at what bolts the sump to the enging buddy? it aint no m6 bolts dude :P and you will notice the BLANKED OFF oil pick up in the block. (corect me if im wrong, there are tapped hols but thats it yes?)

USE A GTR SUMP WITH NO DIFF

and ps.. hi energy sump is shit and fowls on the swaybar :ermm:

everyone is on a budget smartass. i never said i wanted to use the high energy sump. i was asking if anyone has heard anything about em, this is a forum isn't it? a place were you ask shit. everyone on here is trying to do shit to a budget, the cheaper the better. sorry i asked.

Now now.

IMO you do not undertake a RB26 conversion with a tight budget. Its simply not possible to do well.

Especially if your going to chase 300-350rwkw out of the thing on a stock bottom end.

Small things like replacing hoses, clamps etc etc. These things alone cost enough let alone the bolt ons

And look, $350 for a sump, cheap as chips.

hey mate

Ive got a modified rb20 sump on my 26 (well one of the rwd sumps). It has been bashed out to clear the rb26 oil pickup but is otherwise standard. It surges HARD on acceleration (300rwkw) and not so badly under brakes, even with 0.5L overfill. Having looked at hi-energy I decided against going down that road. Only other solution I could find was to modify a GTR sump to fit... it was a pain getting a complete sump (couldnt find a stock baffle so stuck with a tomei baffle) and currently a mate is doing the required mods plus winging it to increase capacity and hopefully help combat surge

Basically your best and prob simplest option is to use a modded GTR sump. Attached is the last one the guys did.

hey man,

i understand what u mean by budget. I think they are just misunderstanding what you are saying and assuming you're on a 'tight' budget. Which is totally different to shopping around for the best price (I see alot of people on SAU, getting pinged for being cheap, when simply doing thier h/w on prices.)

Also i couldnt see anywhere in your post about you mentioning you were chasing 300-350rwkw? unless you mentioned that in another topic, i must just be blind.

Anyway,

I don't know where your located but if your in Adelaide i have a rb25det AWD sump from a stagea you can have for $150, Then you can do as NIZMOID said an get it custom fab'd. Throw me a PM if your keen.

If not, then all the best with finding a suitable product.

Cheers

absolutely nothing wrong with a HE sump, been used and proven in circuit racing with no problems whatsoever. No surging, they increase oil capacity by atleast 3 litres over standard. Only problem is they do foul on the standard sway bar and they cost abit too for a modified second hand sump.

If the swaybar is a problem, its just a matter of contacting Sydneykid about one, as i know for a fact there are modified swaybars available for r32 and r33's to accomodate the High energy sump. May not be relevant to this thread, but may help others who are in need.

But a modified rb26 sump for 350 is pretty good. Worth looking at definietely.

Best bet is to use the Rb26 sump, they can be sourced nearly anywhere and i think i paid 100 for mine with a noisy diff. simple enough to remove the diff yourself and the thing is bullet proof... im not a fan of the steel sumps ive seen around the traps and the adapter plates ive seen are a waste of cash. Our car sits on 7k for ages and with simple bolt in baffles has proved very reliable and the whole lot owes me bugger all... far less than a high energy one thats for sure.

sounds good!! yes the alloy sump is the only way. not only for reliability but thats all that bolts up im pretty sure. and being the smartass that i am. its better to do it PROPERLY THE FIRST TIME than pay for 2 rb26's

yay! there are normal people on here... looks like i'll try and use a gtr sump then. i was basically asking what the best cheapest setup is to use... why spend money when you don't have to? right? i don't expect to make upto 350rwkw on a standard bottom end. i expect to make more with an aftermarket bottom end  and 20/25 sumps do bolt on to4gtr but like someone else said you need to slightly massage the sump in some areas.

    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
    • Those comp test results are not hideous. Whether they are accurate or not (ie, when that comp tester says 140 psi, is the real pressure120, 140 or 160?) is unknown to us. The state of the battery used to crank it over is unknown, etc etc. Many people around here would say that the absolute values and the spread are perfectly fine to just add boost and keep going. I personally would be happier with a narrower spread than that, but even the diff between 125 and 145 is not terrible. That one cylinder at 125 though, has probably copped some damage relative to the others. You should inspect the valves seeing as you've got it open. Do you know how to measure installed ring gaps? That, and an inspection of the rings themselves, is how you will determine whether they need to be replaced. If you're not good to do these things, take the block and the pistons and rings to a shop that is, and ask them for the go/no-go on them. Do the bores need a hone at all? If so, you might well be justified in getting some different pistons in order to get away from the ring supply problem. Whether you're happy to spend a lot more money right now, on more gear, rather than less money, but an amount that looks stupid given that you will only get a handful of rings in exchange for that money, is for you to decide.
    • also possibly backed up to my filler and shat down it! 🤣
    • Ok so i would love some advice here please, i purchased an R33 a few months back and its had a few mods done to the engine, its an RB25det running a Master ECU, 1200cc injectors, bigger turbo, oil cooler, oil filter relocation kit, Spool H-beam rods, acl/ross pistons. When i removed the motor from the vehicle (as its getting a respray) i thought i would compression test it and these are the following results. Cylinder 1-145psi, Cylinder 2-143psi, Cylinder 3-125psi, Cylinder 4-145psi, Cylinder 5-140psi, Cylinder 6-135psi this test was done with the motor on the ground and powering up the starter motor. I dropped the sump and found broken oil squirters on cylinder 3,5 and 6. I was told my rings are probably worn so i stripped the motor completely to get a new set of rings for it. The trouble is no one has these rings anywhere and they have to be custom made by Ross over in the states and will cost about $600+$200 delivery. My question is how can i tell if my rings are at fault and if they are still ok and is this price ok for a set of rings?
