hey

just wondering whats the best way to get better fuel economy

i put a bov on the other day and since then i get 45k's to 10 bucks and i hardly give it the boot but i could feel it had more power

now taking it off im back to my 10 bucks to 100k's but can i get even better?

also the bov i used was a gfb basic

would a gfb hybrid or turbosmart dual port be more fuel economic?

need some tips n tricks!

since i got the car ive done these things (the car is fully stock standard)

changed oil (crap valvoline xld in it FFS!) to pennzoil gt performance 10-40 semi synth (gotta change every 5thou k's or 3 months so im not going expensive stuff cause $40 for 5ltrs is enuff)

put a jamex sports panel filter in (felt a touch more power from changing the stock paper 1 to that)

and changed fuel filter

now if there is anything i can do in these regards

A: get more power but keep the fuel economy near the same

or

B: get better economy full stop how it is

thanks for inputerers

externally venting bov wll use more fuel cause of air going past afm and not into engine...

makes cool backfire noises to go with the woosh tho..

who ever said these cars were suposed to be practical?!?! :D

retard timing, reduce boost, and use std unleaded....

or you could drive a Hyundai  - probably equates to about the same thing  :)

retard timing ? reduce boost ?

drive a hyundai ? i'm spotting a familiar trend here Gav!

(hyundai convert)

your could do what adam said earlier while sticking with the stock bov

ie drive off boost as much as possible and get a SAFC or SAFC 2 or similar fuel controller.

i get have an average fuel consumption of 9.6L/100km. granted the majority of my driving is cruising up and down the freeway.

hmm i think i need to do something to my car, i go up the freeway from rocko everyday like you sykyzer and can only get about 8km/L, tried a tank of normal unleaded too without any messing about and still got the same.

you can't really complain, you buy a skyline you live with the consequences :P

I cannot beleive that people do this to their cars...

Scarifier, do not try this. Not under any circumstances. not even a little bit.

:P

bah, that was the only time i did it and it was to see if U98 actually does increase fuel economy as it says on their brochure.

but it still ran fine... not a sign of knocking/pinging at all. It was all granny driving that week as I was seeing if i could beat my ~430km/tank, but no luck

you would definitely NOT do it during summer though.

me thinks we have written this wrong kym.

kym

500km/65ltr = 7.6km per litre

Me

600-620km/65ltr = 9.6km per litre

mmm.. i just had my R32 for about 2 months now.. haven't been able to get it under 13L/100kms!!!.. i've tried to granny it.. but i can't help goin on boost for a lil bit.. but from the sounds of things mines using too much fuel? what the... i dont have a boost gauge but the lil crappy stock thing points just below 7 on full boost.... (so has the boost been upped?)

me got over 600kms last time i went down south.. and that was long extended periods at a decent speed.. ie 4000 to 4500rpm in 5th gear.. i was quite suprised.. seems the engine either likes these sort of rev or thats the only rev point at which my fuel map is sorted..

methinks the second one.. :)

    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
    • Not yet quite as bad as what we've seen a Jim Berry clutch do in an R32 GTR though when it decided to cut a chassis rail in half... Still very very gnarly and a great reason to avoid.
