Hey All,

Was a nice day so had the gtr out for a spin, started the engine around about 11:45am and noticed some white smoke drifting past my window. Didn't do it anymore after I got moving...about an hour later after being at the botanical gardens, started her again, couldn't notice any white smoke. Drove around a couple of corners, got to an 80km zone so accelerated quickly up to speed and then I hear this weird pop while still accelerating and then I start loosing power....basically the car wont respond just continually loose speed until I pull over into a side road where it dies on me....now the car will start and run for about 5 seconds roughly while blowing black smoke rings and then dies...if I start it with some accelerator it runs smooth for about 2 seconds then fluctuates once and dies...nothing I do will keep it running, ended up having to get it put on the tray truck and transported home, pushed into the garage with me sitting with my chin in my hand wandering what happened.

Any ideas anyone, I do have a injector leak issue which causes it to run lean sometimes and makes the engine warning light come on (was not far off getting it fixed, hope its not the cause). Running a power FC with sard 800cc injectors, greddy adj. cam gears, r34 n1 turbos running about 14psi.

Thanks,

Gagz

well hopefully its just an intercooler pipe has come off - check all of the pipes and clamps and make sure they are on OK.

If they all look OK you might want to try a compression test to confirm the motor is still OK......

Hey,

Don't think its an intercooler pipe but I haven't had a good look yet so will check out. Think the afms are fine too, plugs looked fine.

Will have a closer look tonight and report back my findings, I've got a bad feeling though I've done something worse than an intercooler pipe.

Cheers!

It sounds like a pipe , how can you say you don't think its a pipe ? Unless you know something you are not telling us . The way you described it , running very rich so much so you can get any power out of it , its typical AFM issue, you are getting unmetered air from somewhere and my guess is you popped a cooler pipe .

You can't see the lower 2 pipes as they are inside the the b/bar , if you take the blinker grills out you should be able so see if the pipes are ok , if you can't see the top try pulling it your hand . You may have to pull the inner plastic guard to secure it if it came off.

doesnt anyone else think the engine has popped?

-smoke on start-up

-leaking injector

-engine light 'on' (detonation when using powerFC)

-pop or bang noise

"causes it to run lean sometimes"

All this doesnt look good.

If you cant find any hoses that have popped off then get a compression and leakdown done

It may have one or more ringlands busted but that is not the reason she won't run or the fact that pumps out heaps of black smoke ( thats fuel) . Don't forget even with a couple busted ringlands you usualy have some compression , say 70psi and with boost the busted cyl still fires and what about the other 4 or 5 healthy cyls .

i agree. :)

simply water vapour from the combustion process - nothing more, nothing less.

I agree that it's probably popped an I/C pipe somewhere. Metered air is not reaching the cylinder, causing extreme richness of mixture.

Popped a turbo/IC hose.

I did it at Phillip Island with everything hot and because of the overfuelling it melted my rear bumper and tail light.

It went POP and had no power and had a very rich exhaust, like 2m flames.

yeah what i was getting at was, he doesnt think its a pipe after a quick check

black smoke would indicate a leak and un-metered air going into the engine-i agree :)

I meant there may well be damage (such as ring lands as said, overlooking the black smoke) from a leaking injector. I wouldnt drive the car at all until it was checked if it were mine because theres a chance youve already done some damage and it may only get worse with continued lead footed-ness :D

Hey All,

After closer inspection, it WAS an intercooler pipe. The pipe on the inlet/passenger side of the intercooler had come off and had a gap big enough to put a couple of fingers in but was hard to see from casual glance as its half hidden by an air guide for the oil cooler.

My intercooler inlet/oultet and pipes are all lipped and clamped really good, this is why I thought it unlikely to happen but had some repairs done recently on the front bar and I think they had the pipes disconnected at some stage so they probably didnt put it back on properly :)

Thank god it wasnt anything serious

Thanks everyone for all your help and input.

Cheers!

    • I'd be very surprised if you can buy new OEM mats. But if you can, I want some too!  Do you have links to the variations you found? Also, where are you located? I found that Nengun is happy to list items to purchase but when you do buy them you'll get an email that it's actually discontinued. As far as I know the variations in floor mats are different colour schemes as well as automatic and manual having a slightly different shape. The automatic ones fit into a manual car without issues, but I think you'd have trouble fitting the other way around. I have photos that show the shape difference if you care. FWIW I bought sets of used floor mats in decent condition at yahoo auctions.
    • Hi 🙋‍♂️. Just bought my Unicorn but the interior need some minor work so it would match my expectations ;). I noticed it is hard to get used oem floor mats in good condition so i started to dig if there's any chance to buy set of new ones. I found two websites - nengun and amayama and it looks like one can still buy factory new floor mats in Japan, but thers a small issue. Some mats (i assume genuine, oem ones) are marked as G4900 and these are "discontinued". The ones you can buy are marked as G4911 but i have no idea if these are also oem, made by other producer or some lower quality replacements that looks entirely different. Can anyone help? 😃  P.s. there is also some strange indication - 0V005, 0V015 and 0V505. Any idea what does it mean? Would appreciate any help with this 🙏
    • Hi, Marek here 🙋‍♂️. I finally fulfilled my longtime dream - recently bought Stagea and now waiting for it to arrive in Poland. There's only few of these in my country, and one of the owners  recommended mi this forum as a source of all the info i'd need since now i own one  so here i am.
    • Version 1 aluminium airbox is.......not acceptable No pics as I "didn't like the look.....alot" Even after all my "CAD", and measurements, the leg near the fusebox just didn't sit right as it ended up about 10mm long and made the angle of the dangle look wrong, the height was a little short as well, meh, I wasn't that confident that Version 1 was going to be an instant winner I might give Version 2 another go, there's plenty of aluminium at work, but, after having in on and off a few times, and laying in the old OEM airbox without the new pod filter and MAF, there may be an option to modify the OEM air box and still use the Autoexe front cover and filter.... maybe This >  Needs to fit in here, but using the panel, and not the pod, the MAF will need to fit in the airbox though> I'm thinking as the old OEM box and Autoexe cover that is sitting in the shed is just sitting around doing nothing, and they are relatively abundant and cheap to replace if I mess it up and need another, it may well fit with some modifications to how the Autoexe brackets mounts to the rad support, and some dremiling to move it get in there, should give me some more room for activities, as I don't want to move the MAF and affect the tune Sealing the hole it requires to stick it in the air box is simple, a tight fit and some pinch weld will seal it up tight  I am calling this a later problem though
    • and it ends up being already priced in as though you're just on 91RON without any ethanol. Car will lose a bit of economy as the short and long term fuel trims bring down the AFR back to stoich or whatever it is for cruise/idle for the engine.
