Now there is something i am somewhat unclear of...

I have asked twice already if you import a car from japan do all mods have to be removed and destroyed... Both times i have got the answer "correct"

Now.. could someone explain why it is that anyone would purchase a car "highly modified" if all the mods are to be taken off before they actually get it?

This may seem very noob of me but i intend to import soonish.. and i am getting some idea's of how it all works.

I downloaded the FAQ's from www.prestigemotorsport.com but it didn't answer the question fully...

It is dependant on how the car enters the country, so there should be nothing to stop you taking off the parts overseas and shipping them with the car .. as long as the car itself is 100% stock and any aftermarket parts are not fitted prior to registration.

it all seems to simple to remove the mods and get them shipped over seperately ... its going to cost $'s to:

a) remove the mods

B) source stock bits

c) install stock bits

d) send over original mods seperately

e) re-install mods when landed

i wonder by the end of it how much you've really saved...?

Question:

When is a RAW NOT a RAW?

Answer:

When they leave on or re-fit after market(non-conforming parts) with-out evidence!!!

This is going to be a huge problem for "some" of the RAW workshops here in Aust particularly the ones importing Skylines,as to import and sell a stock33 will be about as saleable as a" pair of trousers filles with African killer bees" . and some Raws have allready gone out and publically said"If they think I am going to remove a S/Steel Trust exhaust of a vehicle and destroy it ,they must think I am a F%CK$# Idiot" un-quote!!!!

I wonder how long someone will be a RAW for with that kind of attitude?

What would happen to somebody who has paid a deposit to a RAW to import a modified Skyline, and the vehicle gets inspected and the RAW gets an audit and nailed? where would that leave the client and his vehicle???

Can someone PLz answer this question

A raw without a licence... workshop... and probably in Jail.... or fined heavily.

The customer..... without a car... and probably out of pocket a lot due to the car (probably) being destroyed or re exported.....

(Just guessing here)......

hehe..

anyway, i wouldn't be trying to get an importer to push the rules as they'll be regular inspections. The only people that are going to suffer from this are those trying to do the dodgy, or you when you're car gets taken back or destroyed. That is one of the whole reasons the new scheme was brought in the first place, to stop some of that from happening.

I am currently importing a vehicle through Geoff and he has assured me that this is untrue.

Yes, that is true - ALL aftermarket parts will have to be destroyed or re-exported with evidence provided to keep the RAWS out of hot water when they get checked out by the DOTARS.

At this stage it appears that this may even include stupid things like gear shift knobs and additional gauges .. nobody really knows how strict they will be with enforcing these laws so it will be a case of "better safe than sorry"

I would not personally suggest importing any car with modified parts unless you are prepared to lose them and wear the cost of buying stock parts to replace them .. trying to "sneak" anything through at this stage would be just plain stupid for you and beyond belief for the RAWS workshop.

Hi Pie,

If you are talking about a 15Y/O vehicle, a/m gear can be left installed as the only dramas you may encounter will be the local Licencing authorities. and it may just be a case of removing some of the parts to licence the vehicle.

Although if you have been "promised" a vehicle imported by a RAW(SEVS) vehicle with the non-conforming parts retained or re-fitted then be very very carefull. In fact if anybody from"DOTARS"is monitoring this thread then I would say you are allready shot! and possibly the company you have mentioned!!!!!

I would guess that if a RAW was caught out with your vehicle in his premisis that was signed -off and found NOT to be conforming to his evidence ie:17" Rims fitted or S/steel exhaust ect then you would be without your vehicle, and DOTARS would not care who owns it ,as it would come down to a legal claim between you and the RAW, not DOTARS.....

I'm looking to import a relatively stock Series II R33, although a couple I have looked at have had a few small extras (GT-R seats, rims, gauges, etc.).

I was originally under the impression that all aftermarket parts had to be destroyed, but Geoff explained that such rumours are completely unfounded.

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
