Hey guys,

Sorry to bring this topic up again, But ive come across this unit on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/DIGITAL-TV-TUNER-CA...oQQcmdZViewItem

this is what actually got me thinking about it ....... "This unit will work with any NTSC or PAL monitor with RCA input"

Does this mean it could work on our NTSC navi units?

I read the user manual, and its difficult to know if it converts PAL into NTSC or simply it can handle PAL and NTSC inputs and output the same. You could try contacting the seller, might be able to help.

it should work by the discription it is compatable with both pal and ntsc imputs + it has auto function what ever the hell that means? i think it means it will auto detect what your monitor is using. thats just my thought. and how big is the arial my dad bought a satlite decoder and yes he needs a satlite on his roof for that to work wilst driving he needs a auto detecting satlite worth 4grand. iam not shure about yous but i don't think rabit ears in side the car is safe or practicle and if you need a telly areil out side that is hidious. thats just some food for thought make shure you look into things before purchesing or you will be just giving someonelse a bargin when you have to on sell it.

i think what it meant is its a multi system for the receiving signal. Not to he unit. ou might need to ask the vendor about this. Ask him this.

1. Is the unit able to be plug into A screen which is an NTSC format?

2. Is it able to convert the Pal signal into NTSC for viewing?

I have quite a firs bit of experience in AV thingy. If it is the convertor it should work. Hope this helps.

if I read that correctly it will interprete the INCOMING tv format. yo need to find out what it actually spits out.

the on glass antenna will yeild crap results - a outside one will work better. rabbit ears are not what these things are btw. they are specialised ones that look similar to a small mobile phone antenna.

I asked 3 different sellers in the UK, also a PAL and DVB-T area, about the same digital box, this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Car-Freeview-Digita...oQQcmdZViewItem

and they all stated that it will work on my NTSC screen.

However, the same looking product on this page, 1/3 way down, (DVBT-CAR )

http://www.threedoubleyou.com/car-tuner.htm

states that there are 2 different versions, one that outputs PAL and one NTSC, please specify when you buy.

Im keen to try one of these and replace my bulky tuner and converter box into this small unit which I hope will give me a more stable picture when im moving.

This is his reply

"Digital is neither PAL nor NTSC and so it will display perfectly no matter what (like DVDs)

These units are used by plently of club members and thanks for the offer.

The free antenna is average and will work depending on where you are in relation to the broadcast towers."

I get a strong signal off my factory aerials in the rear and side windows (all bridged together into one at the plug), only thing is they need to be powered, this is usually activated when the factory jap TV tuner is selected. Therefore to use AV2 with the aerials, you would need to supply some power to the small silver boxes in behind the rear panels. (signal amplifiers maybe ??)

  • 2 weeks later...

Installed a new TV tuner, to simplify my setup, as this one doesnt need an NTSC converter, so there is everyones answer ! will output in NTSC. I had to connect it to my home TV first to change the menu to NTSC, otherwise you wont be able to read the menu if you connect it to car first. Signal is average when driving around, perfect when stationary, although i am getting a better signal with my factory window aerials than the one provided in this kit.

Also, had a whirring noise from the rear of my NAVI unit, seems my cooling fan had packed it in, replaced with this one, bolt in, just needed to change the plug over. Quiet and powerful.

And the unit is quite cheap too!

How did you go about hooking up the aerials to the unit Chook and was it easy to install?, where abouts did you install/mount it and most of all, how easy is it to use (ie: do you need to wire an infra-red eye to change channels etc)?

The Stagea has 3 or 4 (cant remember) separate aerials in the rear glass, and the factory tuner box selects the best signal from one of these at any given time, called diversity aerials. Some more expensive boxes have diversity inputs, but are way too expensive. I just cut off the mini plugs on the aerial cables, stripped and joined all of them together into 1 cable and put a RF plug onto it. As I said before, these aerials have a silver box, possibly a signal booster, hidden behind the rear pillar panels, these get power to them when the tv tuner is selected from the screen. Without this power the aerials are weak. But we are using VTR2 ie no power, I found the wire, cut it and put accessory 12v to them.

There is probably better ways to get a signal but i want to keep mine as factory as possible, ie no external aerials.

The unit comes with an IR extender cable, about 3m, which i placed under the glovebox, next to the flare holder. All pretty easy to use.

For sound you just need a headunit with RCA line-in plugs, run audio cable from DTV box to headunit, or if you have factory headunit, just straight to the factory VTR2 plugs in the factory tuner box from the DTV box.

It all hidden in rear left panel underneath the factory tuner box.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
    • Hi.. Just another problem. So maybe you can help. I(my mechanic) done swap from my RB20DE NEO to RB25DET NEO. Everything is OK but we have a boost cut. Coils/Plugs are ok...AFM is ok. ECU is ok. I have Walbro 255 but it "changed" sound few months ago(you can hear it ouside) you did not hear that when it was new(maybe faulty?) Sooo...what now? What can cause this boost cut? It is even when you standing still...
