Well I just made myself a new gear shift boot... I quizzed the old woman on how to sew, and what I would need... and it worked out very well... sorry no pics as yet, I only have a crappy phone camera.

I used similar vinyl except ever so slightly thicker, some nice strong thread and some time...

It is basically a replica of the original, I took it apart and just did the same thing in reverse with new parts, my favourite trick...

I have heaps of material left over, enough for at least 10... What do you reckon sau'ers might pay for a home job, considering your looking at least $45 else where... I reckon what $13 plus postage...? does that sounds reasonable....?

I'll get some pics up but it just look like the stock one but new... I'm quite amazed it turned out so well..

autotechnica in melb does a gear boot and handbrake cover kit ($69ish from memeory) in high quality leather every bit as good as the fatory setup including the metal base ring etc....

i got a high quality leather set for lik 40? or below 50. With viynl it is just going to end up all cracked and look crappy in a few year though just like the factory one isnt it? plus teh leathr smells nice in the car haha but 13 bucks is very good even if it isnt leather. Sewing leather is a diffrent story i think though.

trent going the hard sell, LOL

you could always look at other factory options. the later model magnas came out with a nice leather type boot and i think you can get them from mitsubishi for about $40. the only thing is that it may be a bot short as the magnas have a shorter lever than the skylines

I need one that'll suit an s13 converted to auto. I don't have the little plasctic plate/bracket that manuals have to join to the gearboot. If you can make one that's not cut at the bottom i can do the rest

    • This sounds like someone who would have owned an R33 in their past... It's okay, I'm 100% picking up what you're putting down Mark.
    • Just back on what was raised about jacking off the the tow/tie down point on the front of cars. I've used it plenty. I've also watched it on a car where you could see it move the front end of the car. It was like the front end/whole car being tweaked and twisted a bit. I will say, I struggle to find good jacking points on MOST cars. The ones that have good points, I then normally struggle to find a jack tall enough to make the car change height!   One of my go to points for either the jack, or the axel stands though, is either a suspension pickup point, OR a subframe to chassis major bolting point. I actually think its the subframe on my R33 that has a bit of a bend in it, from being jacked in the middle too. However, it could have been one of my many other cars I've had over the years! Or it could also be the from me jacking it up, and the fact the top of the front radiator support isn't there, so it can allow the front of the car to move and bend etc.
    • My apologies. I forgot we were talking about weird beard M series stuff. Had been talking elsewhere with someone about an R33 with similar subject and got confused.
    • Nope, I don't like the look of ND RF, or any ND really, I don't like their faces or arses, why, because of their "modern" lines, the NC, whilst "modernish" has a more rounded shape that I like Well, that's how my overly judgemental eyes see it anyway
    • Should be more than fine, especially the overall fuel pressure would never exceed 3.5bar (assuming that thing never gets more than 0.5bar of boost in stock form). According to the chart, it's 11amps.
