Hope the enthusiasm doesn't wear off. I'd certainly like to see an event organised by our two clubs.

We're going to be at Shannon's Wheels Expo this year. If nothing eventuates before, we can use that show to have a discussion and try to set up some sort of agenda.

I organised a joint supra skyline event before, went down really well (but it was the sydney guys)

Its fun to race your mates, but its more fun to race new mates

No, no.. you keep your fuse plugged in... Hate to see those training wheels come off >_<

I'm looking forward to our little 3 round comp too. I noticed the dyno day thread but it looks like we may not be invited.

LoL, no fuse to pull out... I have a switch in the car... Training wheels on a switch with a turque controller, just to make sure the training wheels work to there very best.

Then make a dyno day and invite me. :D I will come and get my ass handed to me :w00t:

Can be 2wd dyno too :)

We had one in October last year.

We're trying to limit our own dyno events to one per annum. That may, and probably will, change though.

However if this was going to be part of our 3 round "Supra Vs Skyline" comp then I'm sure that we can arrange it.

Here's some links to our dyno day video.

I know a couple of these supra people, dyno we are going to lose, but at least one of these high horsepower supras cant drive it for shit and I mean FOR SHIT!! *cough* Danny *cough*

And ive heard a few stories, so it will be a different kettle on the track.

who's this Danny you speak of, do i know you? :D

Id rather pay a higher price and have less cars on track, more to ourselves.

What is the autosports web site?

:D

you're such a n00b John!

I see you finally made it here :D

ps. wtf is with the satay thing?!?!

lol, made it here? You make it sound like im some long lost relative :D Im so keen for this, i love grudge matches - and the fact that ive got both cars means i can win either way! If a supr has the fastest time ill be on their side and bag you lot, if a skyline wins ill be on your side and knock my supra as being stock :D Win win :D

Merli changed my name after seeing what i had to eat at dinner (satay chicken)

lol! long lost brother??!! :D:D

(adopted - cos we look nothing alike haha!)

nah i just meant since i told you on the phone that time about it!! you finally made it to the thread!!

lol

Ok, you're now my long lost adopted sister from down south

Yep im in for this day so i figured posting in the thread would help :D

Some good power there...

I like the just over 300kw run thats on 13psi. Thats good.

Yeah, heaps of potential. Aftermarket twin turbo setup. Lots more to come from this car and at least one more in a few weeks.

My car had fuel delivery issues at the dyno day. Intermittent loss of fuel due to the stock pump and walbro intank playing up. Had a bosch 044 installed since. Much better power figures now.

Im very keen for this day, we seem to have enough interest aswell... We just need a solid booking now.

By the way "Silver RZ" lots of power might be good for dyno days and the quater mile but on the track its a different story... There are a few light little GTST's here that pack a good punch on the track without having big power figures... You might get us on the straight but look out for us through the twisties :D

The Supra has always been given the 'heavy-weight' branding by the US. The RZ is actually 1490kg compared to 1320kg R32 Skyline GTST, 1480kg R32 Skyline GTR and 1500kg R32 Skyline GTR V-Spec.

But you're definitely right. A good setup gets you far at the track. It's better however to have power and not need it, then need power and not have it. :D

Everyone calls me Niko by the way.

edit: If Jayce is reading any of this, then G'day mate. Long time no see.

LoL that was my next question... Which ones yours.

Niko's supra i would be putting my money on now ;)

I didnt have much of a chance to watch the vids before work just a quick look.

Its really good to see you guys making vids... I rate that.

Good work guys.

Yeah I thought it was a good job of the vids too - makes me feel guilty for not taking the time to work on the marques cruise :D

Danny, there may be some confusion as to who cannot drive for shite on a race track and that should be directed at me. I spent a lot of time on the dirt and I told Johnny boy all about it when we worked together and I was suitably laughed at......

Now that I have my suspension all set up, all I need are some tyres and hopefully I have learnt something about setting a car up for track work/play.

    • The rain is the best time to push to the edge of the grip limit. Water lubrication reduces the consumption of rubber without reducing the fun. I take pleasure in driving around the outside of numpties in Audis, WRXs, BRZs, etc, because they get all worried in the wet. They warm up faster than the engine oil does.
    • When they're dead cold, and in the wet, they're not very fun. RE003 are alright, they do harden very quickly and turn into literally $50 Pace tyres.
    • Yeah, I thought that Reedy's video was quite good because he compared old and new (as in, well used and quite new) AD09s, with what is generally considered to be the fast Yokohama in this category (ie, sporty road/track tyres) and a tyre that people might be able to use to extend the comparo out into the space of more expensive European tyres, being the Cup 2. No-one would ever agree that the Cup 2 is a poor tyre - many would suggest that it is close to the very top of the category. And, for them all to come out so close to each other, and for the cheaper tyre in the test to do so well against the others, in some cases being even faster, shows that (good, non-linglong) tyres are reaching a plateau in terms of how good they can get, and they're all sitting on that same plateau. Anyway, on the AD08R, AD09, RS4 that I've had on the car in recent years, I've never had a problem in the cold and wet. SA gets down to 0-10°C in winter. Not so often, but it was only 4°C when I got in the car this morning. Once the tyres are warm (ie, after about 2km), you can start to lay into them. I've never aquaplaned or suffered serious off-corner understeer or anything like that in the wet, that I would not have expected to happen with a more normal tyre. I had some RE003s, and they were shit in the dry, shit in the wet, shit everywhere. I would rate the RS4 and AD0x as being more trustworthy in the wet, once the rubber is warm. Bridgestone should be ashamed of the RE003.
    • This is why I gave the disclaimer about how I drive in the wet which I feel is pretty important. I have heard people think RS4's are horrible in the rain, but I have this feeling they must be driving (or attempting to drive) anywhere close to the grip limit. I legitimately drive at the speed limit/below speed the limit 100% of the time in the rain. More than happy to just commute along at 50kmh behind a train of cars in 5th gear etc. I do agree with you with regards to the temp and the 'quality' of the tyre Dose. Most UHP tyres aren't even up to temperature on the road anyway, even when going mad initial D canyon carving. It would be interesting to see a not-up-to-temp UHP tyre compared against a mere... normal...HP tyre at these temperatures. I don't think you're (or me in this case) is actually picking up grip with an RS4/AD09 on the road relative to something like a RE003 because the RS4/AD09 is not up to temp and the RE003 is closer to it's optimal operating window.
    • Either the bearing has been installed backwards OR the gearbox input shaft bearing is loosey goosey.   When in doubt, just put in a Samsonas in.
