Anyone know what a reasonable ballpark figure I'd be looking at to get two stockie 32 gtr turbos converted to steel exhaust turbines...?

I can buy some blown turbos but last quote I got for a rebuild (from an anonymous source) wanted $1250 per turbo.... for that price I can possibly get a pair of proper N1's....

MTQ and ATS get mentioned a bit, I haven't called them (usually because whenever I'm thinking about turbos its night time and theyre closed)... have any of ya'll had this done? How much did it cost you?

I got quoted $1k each from place in Sydney..Find that its not worth it :D

Get yourself a pair of R34 N1s :(

i was gonna bring that up dan but i knew you'd mention it..

haha thanks Ryan, just dont wanna see or hear of someone getting ripped off like i did........

if u want a responsive turbo on a gtst then go something like Ryan used to have before he upgraded but if u wanna pull over 270rwkw dont go anything smaller than a gt30/40 or a gt35/40 preferbly a external gate...a BIG hit of boost is what i prefer, well thats my opinion

Wow 1k EACH?! Is it because of the labour involved in removing them, etc? I've heard it's pretty hard to remove/install the turbo's on a RB26 low mount setup...

Actually... I might be up for this soon. I'm still running the ceramics! Been meaning to get them steel wheeled + possibly high-flowed.

Pretty sure the seals are shot on them, too... getting the (very) occasional blue smoke under boost :D yet the engine/rings/everything else is healthy.

Although, the turbo's themselves are really only designed to last 100,000k's until they need a rebuild.

hrm, group buy on stock 32 turbo rebuilds in south oz? could such a thing happen? I know I'm starting to get wary, those turbos are 18 years old - theres only so long that ceramics going to last before it goes byebye... and I want to boost to 18-20 psi... main thing I want tho is having it in a std housing so it'll pass regency

Same boat as me, Ben. I wouldn't dare boost my current turbos... I'm so worried, I've still kept in the stock boost restriction lol.

It's not a matter of if they'll go, it's a matter of when!

Yeah. I dunno how they can charge $1200 ea when I'll have the housings already removed and give them turbos.... put them back in thru someone else.... if i get this pair of blown gtr turbos and steel wheel em, it'll be regency friendly, but i cant be stuffed paying $1200 ea when I can get 2860-7's from ISC for around that price NEW

after fitting Chads -5's, you would be VERY LUCKY to be able to pick them. I personally wouldn't spend so much on refurbished standard turbos when you can sell them, and fit bolt on (although be careful, not as bolt on as they imply) garretts or 2530s etc. Much more hp potential for less $$.

Had a quick look at RB26 results: try this

18psi with high flowed steel wheels = 280 odd kws

18psi with -5s = 316kws .........

Only had a quick look - maybe there are others making more power on high flow steel wheels?? Post em up if you find them.....

+2!!

2530-5s are the goods and sames as R34 N1's Very responsive turbos and make good power

Would -7's give similar power to stock or closer to the -5 ? -5 = quicker spoolup, is that correct?

Cheers

Yep -5s are still smallish turbo can handle up to 350kws and nice and responsive ( Thats what I was reccomended cause that's the power range I wanted to reach without getting LAG) I HATE LAG!!!! I was looking around for some 2nd hand R34 N1s..

I would put some drop in cams with the -5s and off you go :P

-7s are lagger but put some cams with them and it helps.

-10s are even bigger and lagger again. Same as GTRSS

Yeah I hate lag too. 350kw is bloody heaps for what I use the car for (daily) and would def get cam gears and cams.

Just depends on if I can find 34 N1's cheaper than the brand new garretts - and even then it might just be worth paying the difference to have brand new turbos... so I'm guessing -5's are what I should start saving for...

    • Seems like a decent result for a modded JZX110. They are bulky in comparison to the 100 and 90 models (which I'd prefer myself) but they are getting very few and far between here in JP these days. Thanks for the detailed review and the import process into the UK. I also have a car which I'm hoping to export from Japan at some stage so it's good to know if someone from the UK was interested in it. By the way the corrosion underneath is par for the course for cars which were located in/near the mountains or along the Japan sea coastline. They get huge amounts of snow every winter and the sodium chloride is used on the roads. Many cars have some kind of rubber like treatment underneath but they tend to limit it to the wheel arches underbody and fuel tank. Suspension arms and sub-frames will have similar corrosion to your JZX110 which is a common sight. See it all the time and car dealers here generally don't even mention it unless asked.
    • If the sound goes away when you clutch in, the 1.5/2 way diffs are just shit, and you are a normal person. The diff is likely "fine" but driving at anything under 30kmh is a violent horrible experience. It would be exaggerated with solid diff bushings and subframe bushings if you have those.
