hey guys, i don't know whether it was after i thrashed the car or if it was always there but i realised i can hear a weird sound coming from the engine...As im not very familiar with the RB25DET NEO engine i don't know if its normal or not... The sound im hearing will probably be best described as like a VERY QUIET cricket(insect) crying sound? or like a quiet whistling sound from the engine area whether im accelerating or stationary but ofcourse its so quiet i can't hear it at all without opening the windows down and also out in the open... but i don't remember hearing this in my garage when starting the engine.

Is it just normal? If the description is bad i'l try explain again.

yeah? well if its normal then its great...but the sound wasn't much of a tapping or ticking, it was more like a whistling VERY QUIET but not constantly coming from the engine area...So would that be it or something else u think?

Split hose. Open the bonnet and stick your head right in there to find it by ear. Often they are split underneath where you can't see it and also being rubber they can split but without pressure they pull closed so you can't see the split. You may have to pull practically every hose off and inspect each end properly to find it.

hey but the sound doesn't increase or anything when accelerating, i can just hear it when cars still or moving im pretty sure but its too loud to hear when moving so...would it still be a split hose then u think abo bob?

is it like a whirring noise that sounds like a fan cos if it does it would be the viscus fan...sometimes on the neo (happened to mine) the coupling gets jammed which means the fan stays on when accelarating. its the most annoyin sound. it kind of stops when you give it a boot up towards red line but yeh..im not sure cos your description is a bit hazy.

I recently found these types of sounds coming from my neo and had it inspected by a mechanic.....He seems to believe its the injectors or the lifters...which are quite normal indeed.

If you still believe the problem is a whistling sound, 9 out of 10 times it'll be a loose or split pipe. Just found one on my car a few days ago, seemed to be the power steering air pipe....You wont really hear much of the noises coming from pipes with sucking vaccume...thus hearing the pipes like the power steering which push air into other parts of the engine.

my 2c...

Could well be. I might be looking at the smaller diameter hoses first if I were you. Time to go have a look and eliminate this possibility for a start I think.

    • haha don't worry I'm sue you've got more fun ahead buying a 30 year old turbo car....but at least you are in the right place to ask
    • some days eh? The keyless entry and interior light on/off with the key will be controlled by the Body Control Module, but I'm not certain where that is or what it looks like (you might get lucky with a search to get a part#, which could be printed on it). I'd start at the A pillar/ Under dash/kick panel on the driver's side
    • It might be hit and miss, but Nissan Genuine Parts and Pitworks are not the same thing, although both are available from Nissan Dealers with Nissan Part Numbers. Nissan Genuine Parts are the OEM stuff, Pitworks are their attempt to get people back from generic parts makers
    • I did end up getting it sorted, as GTSBoy said, there was a corroded connection and wire that needed to be replaced. I ended up taking out the light assembly, giving everything a good clean and re-soldered the old joints, and it came out good.
    • Wow, thanks for your help guys 🙏. I really appreciate it. Thanks @Rezz, if i fail finding any new or used, full or partial set of original Stage carpets i will come back to you for sure 😉 Explenation is right there, i just missed it 🤦‍♂️. Thanks for pointing out. @soviet_merlin in the meantime, I received a reply from nengun, and i quote: "Thanks for your message and interest in Nengun. KG4900 is for the full set of floor mats, while KG4911 is only the Driver's Floor Mat. FR, RH means Front Right Hand Side. All the Full Set options are now discontinued. However, the Driver's Floor Mat options are still available according to the latest information available to us. We do not know what the differences would be, but if you only want the one mat, we can certainly see what we can find out for you". Interesting. It seems they still have some "new old stock" that Duncan mentioned 🤔. I wonder if they can provide any photos......And i also just realized that amayama have G4900 sets. I'm tempted too.
