Hey guys,

I have a situation at the moment which i am very torn in, well with my current knowledge and experience i am torn anyway. I have for the last year been building up a R33 GTS-T. Basically as follows -

Full House of Kolour Respray and custom bodywork

Full leather retrim

Full suspension overhaul (coilovers, all joints and bush's, strut braces, castor and cambers gear)

RB 25/30 Rebuild (ACL Pistons, Spool Rods, Gasket, Tomei Cams, Greddy Plenum / Cooler / Oil cooler)

T04Z Turbo on a Trust Manifold basically to make a comfortable 500 / 550 rwhp

Other things like Carbon bonnet and cosmetic mods

All of which i have never driven as its about to come out of the shop from the last lot of work. My dilemma is i have fortunately enough been offered the change to a R34 GTR VSpec II. Relatively standard with rims and an exhaust, 2001 model with about 40000 genuine km's. I may be crazy, but i feel torn between what to do and am looking for opinions on wether i should spend the extra money and goto the GTR, or hang onto what i have. I have never driven a GTR let alone an R34 so im not sure just what im missing out on.

This post was not meant to be stupid or for bragging or anything like that, i want genuine opinions and feedback from people that have something to say. If you want to say something stupid or make a comment about my age and the cars then please keep it to yourself. Thanks in advance for any advice.

man it's a tough thing, you say its a straight swap so wat do u mean by spend the extra money and get the 34???? but seriously if i was in your shoes cause i was not that long ago, you've made your car yours and obviously put alot of money and time into making it something that you've wanted, if you go to the 34 yeah its a higher rated car stock but your going to have to spend alot of money all over again to get it to be yours and not like every other one out there.... like think about it why would the guy wan2 swap the 34 for your car if he wasn't benefiting

Sorry just to clear this up, im not directly swapping. I would be selling mine and paying a bit extra to upgrade to the R34. I wish it was a direct swap lol! I know what you mean though, i have invested a lot of time and money making the car how i want it, the thing that concerns me is that the R34 is a superior car in basically every regard and i don't know if ill regret it a few months down the track if i didn't take the opportunity.

Just for reference, this is almost identical to the GTR i'm looking at. Colour and quality / condition.

34's aren't superior in every way both have the advantages and disadvantages...

Yeah that probably wasn't what i was meaning to say, just mainly thats its newer, has the 4wd, holds its value a lot better and has heaps of tuning potential obviously

Seeing as its not finished return it to stock, but leave the rims and cosmetid mods on. Sell it to some show pony and sell off the performance parts seperately. Then buy the 34

That is a tough one to say the least.

Sure the GTR has potential, But from the sounds of your build, so has yours. depends what you want really. The smart money would be on taking the GTR , But if your like me, you wont enjoy going back to stock power. And your R33 sounds like its going to be a wild ride.

hmm.. I havnt really helped the situation have I.. :thumbsup:

Good luck with whatever you decide.

That is a good point! I havn't driven my car yet so im not used to the large power though! haha. I don't know what to do, im really in two minds about it lol...

IMO 34 gtr all the way.

Newer car;

Worth a lot more (sounds like you are getting a bargain with just topping up a bit for the 34gtr);

4wd (good thing IMO);

Better ergonomics;

More reliable than a 500rwhp 33 (if you keep the 34 stock for a bit);

Less hassles with cops (again, if you keep it stock);

Looks better (again, IMHO)

Better resale value;

and not to mention the potential it has, not saying ur 25/30 isnt already a monster :thumbsup:

How much extra is the top up?

Your choices are in $$$$$...everyone would swap..

If you could afford a 34GTR..why not..go for it.

The problem is ...you have spent time and money on your ride and still not used it.

That alone says your just doing it because you can.

You don't need a ride...your after a statement.....at least thats what I think.

If I were you...sell the gtst..sell the car your driving now...buy the gtr34 and use it...mod it as you go...no 1 month in for this..or..paint work 1 month..engine work 2 monthe..etc etc...and end up not driving it for 1 year like the gtst....lol

Just use the car,drive it and enjoy it.

The top up will probably be around the 20k mark, i know i havn't used it and the big reason behind the decision now is that if i were to sell the parts from it as brand new gear i think they would be worth a lot more. I would also not have to fork out the last 5k bill for getting it all back together and tuned which would be a plus lol. I want to do exactly what you mentioned in the end there, drive it and mod it as you go, instead of having a car off the road for a year which is what i've had.

your r33 looks and sounds sweet, but I'd have to take the 34 gtr - seriously there's just something so special about gtr's especially 34's. Just a better overall car. either way and your gonna have a sweet skyline so meh

20K buys you a GTR32 with some mods.

A good body kit..fresh paint and you have a beast every one adores.

If I were to do it over again...I would have choose a GTR32 Vspec II .

Given it a respray(Silver or Gunmetal my favourite).

Nice deep dish rims with chrome edges..

Worked motor...tuned for road.

I did not because I could afford a R33GTR..and my Nephew had a Gtr32..lol

But having said that...each to their own...do what your heart wants...just make sure you drive it everday...

after all the work and long wait to build the 33 why sell it now...Drive it and enjoy ir for a few months at least..until you feel like a change then get the GTR...Have the best of both worlds

The GTR is the way to go in the end though but you gotta enjoy the ride..

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
