Hey guys, i have been invited to compete at the Drift Fest 2007 at Calder Park which promises to be a huge event, Its 32 cars invite only, and the organisers are pretty much only selecting drivers which they believe have the skills to do it. Most of the Drift Aust field have not been invited due to their contract clashes etc. I'm pretty keen to give this a red hot go as first prize is $10,000... hell third prize is still 5K.

The catch? The entry fee is $1500. While thats not huge compared to most motorsports, it is a tight stretch atm considering its the end of the year, and i have just spent up on my car on various things.

Im not asking for people to donate me money, far from it, what i am asking tho is if anyone who is willing to help out with sponsorship through their businesses, or know of businesses in SA that would like to help out a willing driver, then that would be great. I have a full proposal already done up and i'm 100% professional about it. My car has just been resprayed, new kit and its looking 100% sweet, its the perfect Blank canvas atm.

Theres an opportunity for Trade stands on the day, along with various other promotional methods.

theres more info on the event RIGHT HERE

If anyone is willing to help out, hit me up with an email on [email protected] or Pm.

Cheers

Simon

thats awesome simon, congrats on being one of the few invited, sure you will do well if you make it up there, hopefully someone helps you out and you make it.

Best of luck mate.

thats great man, good luck with it all....I'll try talkin my boss into it, he's got a building business which is fairly well known. Ill try hit up my old boss too who does plastic injection molding...but im sure someone will slap some stickers on ya car and help you out.

Before anyone has a cry about this thread, please take the time to realise that simon isn't just some inadequate driver wanting sponsorship, i recommend you check out some of the many video's of him on youtube ect before you leave rude comments here.

This is definitley the opportunity to get your product/workshop/brand out there as we are competing with some of the nations best drivers (minus some DA drivers but there are PLENTY decent drivers out there without their budget), plus a prize pool that has even the 8th place person getting $750!

^^^^^ Thanks for that, i think most people within the car scene in Adel know of who Simon is and how long he has been sliding for, especially the way he used to chuck his sprinter in turn 1 of Malllala!

I'd love to help you out in anyway Simon but i also have 2 mates that grip race nationally and in the state and they need my help too!

Best of luck over there tho, I'm sure you don't need it as you talent speaks for it self!!

haha thanks for the kind words mate, that 86 was a lot of fun to drive thats for sure >_<

will ask teh guys at driftline if they wanna sponsor... can you run a banner on your car? they might be entering a car too...

Shan from the sound of it mate the car has just been freshly resprayed and ready for signage! Thus meaning majiority of the car can be theirs for the right sponsorship, and Simon is more than capable to represent them!

Yeah as darren said, ive a fresh body to sticker up! Got several smaller companies helpoing out with a couple of parts and stuff, but im looking for 1-2 major sponsors.

tis what it looked like today... fresh out the booth. gotta go down there tomorrow and put it all together! The colour is the new Mazda colour as seen on Mazda 3,6, RX8 etc. its a metallic and a pearl and its fair bright in the sun!

Cheers to the guys from All Type Crash... have done a sweeeet job.

    • You Gregged a whole racetrack!?
    • Look for broken wire or bad connector at the motor. Might not be it, but is worth starting there, as it is easy.
    • Hi everyone, I’m having an issue with my R32 GT-R. Sometimes, when the car goes over a bump or experiences some vibration, the 4WD warning light comes on the dashboard. When I check the code from the control unit in the trunk, it shows Code 19 – ETS Motor. However, everything seems to be working fine — if I turn off the engine and restart the car, the light goes away and everything functions normally. Has anyone experienced this before? Where should I start troubleshooting this issue? Thanks in advance!
    • I'm back from the dyno - again! I went looking for someone who knew LS's and had a roller dyno, to see how it shaped up compared to everything else and confirm the powerband really is peaking where Mr Mamo says it should. TLDR: The dyno result I got this time definitely had the shape of how it feels on the road and finally 'makes sense'. Also we had a bit more time to play with timing on the dyno, it turns out the common practice in LS is to lower the timing around peak torque and restore it to max after. So given a car was on the dyno and mostly dialled in already, it was time for tweaking. Luis at APS is definitely knowledgable when it came to this and had overlays ready to go and was happy to share. If you map out your cylinder airmass you start seeing graphs that look a LOT like the engine's torque curve. The good thing also is if you map out your timing curve when you're avoiding knock... this curve very much looks like the inverse of the airmass curve. The result? Well it's another 10.7kw/14hp kw from where I drove it in at. Pretty much everywhere, too. As to how much this car actually makes in Hub Dyno numbers, American Dyno numbers, or Mainline dyno numbers, I say I don't know and it's gone up ~25kw since I started tinkering lol. It IS interesting how the shorter ratio gears I have aren't scaled right on this dyno - 6840RPM is 199KMH, not 175KMH. I have also seen other printouts here with cars with less mods at much higher "kmh" for their RPM due Commodores having 3.45's or longer (!) rear diff ratios maxing out 4th gear which is the 1:1 gear on the T56. Does this matter? No, not really. The real answer is go to the strip and see what it traps, but: I guess I should have gone last Sunday...
