My father took these pics in Rundle Mall during the 1993 AGP in Adelaide.

I guess GIO wanted some exposure for the advertising dollars even if the car hadn't raced for nearly 12 months.

Can't really see enough to tell whether it's a show car or the real thing ( I guess not many show cars get fitted with air jacks), but I'll take one anyway

Some of you may remember a certain young fellow called Mark Skaife wrote off a Gibson GTR at the AGP in 1990.

It looked like this when he had finished.

One of my work mates gave me these photos today.

Check out the scrape marks on whats left of the roof. Ouch!

Sweet. You have no idea how long I have been looking for some photos/footage of that smash.

This is a great thread.. ive also been downloading footage of the gtr's racing in the australian touring car championships from about 1990 to 92.... great to watch them punish the big POS commo's and coons

That's a fair bit of the Gibson stuff gone (or going) from Terry. Still has more than enough exotic road/race cars than most of us could imagine and a true gentleman to go with it.

Here's the front cover report from AA from Bathurst '92. Those were the days.

hah i was only watching the dvd of that the other day, omfg do ya feel like punching the bogans

This is an excellent thread. I've thoroughly enjoyed the pictures and scans from old magazines. Seeing the first Group A magazine scan as well as the Auto Action cover was a treat. If you have any more Auto Action scans of any of the ATCC rounds, please post them up. You will have a receptive audience - that's for sure!

Thanks also for the pics of the GIO car in Rundle Mall - that looks the real deal and no show car.

Thank you too for the pictures of Skaife's write-off from the 1990 Australian GP. Those two pics are the only ones I have ever seen of it. I have not found any video footage or other visual record of that crash, so seeing that was a real treat. Many many thanks!

In some really sad news, Anders Olofsson has died. He was only 55.

Amongst his many achievements he was a winner of the Spa 24 hours race (in a GT-R), an Swedish F3 champion & won the Japanese Touring Car championship 3 times. He also ran at Bathurst on four occassions for Fred Gibson.

I was incredibly saddened to hear of Anders Oloffson's passing. At such a young age too.

Jetwreck, thanks for the amazing pictures! I don't suppose you have any of the start of the Great Race from 1990, 1991 and 1992 do you?

Also, I am looking for good clear pictures of the interior of the Gibson R32 GT-Rs from when they raced (1990, 1991 and 1992) - and also of Channel 7's Racecam camera. I'd like to see how it was mounted, where precisely it was mounted, the size of the camera, where any cabling went to etc. It's an odd question I know, but this is one detail of the cars that no-one ever mentions and that I don't have any pictures of (unless I took a screen grab from the race coverage...)

    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
    • Those comp test results are not hideous. Whether they are accurate or not (ie, when that comp tester says 140 psi, is the real pressure120, 140 or 160?) is unknown to us. The state of the battery used to crank it over is unknown, etc etc. Many people around here would say that the absolute values and the spread are perfectly fine to just add boost and keep going. I personally would be happier with a narrower spread than that, but even the diff between 125 and 145 is not terrible. That one cylinder at 125 though, has probably copped some damage relative to the others. You should inspect the valves seeing as you've got it open. Do you know how to measure installed ring gaps? That, and an inspection of the rings themselves, is how you will determine whether they need to be replaced. If you're not good to do these things, take the block and the pistons and rings to a shop that is, and ask them for the go/no-go on them. Do the bores need a hone at all? If so, you might well be justified in getting some different pistons in order to get away from the ring supply problem. Whether you're happy to spend a lot more money right now, on more gear, rather than less money, but an amount that looks stupid given that you will only get a handful of rings in exchange for that money, is for you to decide.
    • also possibly backed up to my filler and shat down it! 🤣
    • Ok so i would love some advice here please, i purchased an R33 a few months back and its had a few mods done to the engine, its an RB25det running a Master ECU, 1200cc injectors, bigger turbo, oil cooler, oil filter relocation kit, Spool H-beam rods, acl/ross pistons. When i removed the motor from the vehicle (as its getting a respray) i thought i would compression test it and these are the following results. Cylinder 1-145psi, Cylinder 2-143psi, Cylinder 3-125psi, Cylinder 4-145psi, Cylinder 5-140psi, Cylinder 6-135psi this test was done with the motor on the ground and powering up the starter motor. I dropped the sump and found broken oil squirters on cylinder 3,5 and 6. I was told my rings are probably worn so i stripped the motor completely to get a new set of rings for it. The trouble is no one has these rings anywhere and they have to be custom made by Ross over in the states and will cost about $600+$200 delivery. My question is how can i tell if my rings are at fault and if they are still ok and is this price ok for a set of rings?
