hey i just bought replica rs bov, for my '96 r33 skyline, and i put it in last nit at my mates, we drilled new holes onto the stock cross over piping, exactly wer the stock bov goes, and mounted it there with know problems and no leaks!

took for a few runs, adjust the hardness & softness of the new bov.. got it about rit..

so i drove home fine!

the only thing that i noticed was that wen down gear and clutch was all the way in, and i didnt release it, the revs would drop from 1500rpms to bout 100rpms, but didnt stall, and den went back up to normal idle revs, lik 500-600rpms...

PROBLEM:

so i got in my car dis morin, drove to my other mates place, who lives bout 2ks away, and was all fine!

then wen i left i got to bout 2000rpm, and it felt like it was bunny hopping! or sumthing??

MY MODS:

i just got a new (afc)apexi neo fitted and tuned,(at 500rpm/1000rpm my correction is -8%. etc..)

front mount intecooler, splitfire coilpacks, re-gapped .6mm spark-plugs,

turbo-tech boost controller/bleed valve, HKS 3" cat-back exhaust.

IDEAS:

new bov needs to tighten(all the way to hard setting)??

afc correction to lean?needs to be adjusted..???

afm??how often do these r33 afm fail, go fautly??

on the back of the bov's there a vac. line that connects to the intake manifold,

should this pipe be a certain min/max diameter, length? if so how long and thick?

any ideas would help...

atmo bov's do that...leaks boost as u start to make it so drives like a b!tch....and revs go nuts wen u pull up at lights. look at ur bosot gauge and tacho and u know wat we mean...climbs n drops..climbs n drops...its tryna compensate for the leak

I'm putting my money on leak, I have had intercooler piping come off many a times, and anytime you try and put any sort of power down, it feels like it's bunny hopping...

Check your piping and schtuff

a leak u reckon? best way to find a leak then????

wat bot:

on the back of the bov's there a vac. line that connects to the intake manifold,

should this pipe be a certain min/max diameter, length? if so how long and thick?

would that make diff?

if it is doing it when you accelerate then you have a problem that. whether the bov is atmo or not shouldn't make a difference during acceleration, unless the bov isn't closing properly.

now the bunny hoping you are talking about, is it bad like a leaner driver, or is it more of a missifre? the fact that you are running 0.6mm gap plugs with splitfire coils worries me. do you have to run the gap that small to have it not missfire? if you do then you have a serious problem with the splitfires.

yeah, it happen wen i accelerate, and was only in first, and yeah, hit just over 2000rpm and yeah..started hoping!

i think i put it in second and it did it aswell round the same rpm..

now wat u mean by..

"bad like a leaner driver"

well my plugs + coilpacks r fine

and its similar to misfire..but feel liks no fuel..

fuel pump? afm?

i have no clue ay..

sorry, cant remember, it was early dis morin wen it happin..and i didnt have time to have a good look..

i tried turning down the valve to make it harder..but no good..

mit turn it all the way down..

but as for driving im pretty sure i was and had my foot down lik a normal driver, dont think my foot-slip or i was back-off or anythin..

i was just driving...lol

Yeah, wen i put my foot done it didnt pass 2 to 2.5k as i mention earlier..

it struggled for some reason..

but i did find my problem..

something 2 do with my apexi afc/neo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so i reset it and it drove fine..

well....it uses more fuel now..lol

so i adjusted the air-map myself just on low throttle. and seems to be if not better than before!

the first place i got my tune done, and the at the same time got my apexi NEO fitted..

they didnt change/adjust the DEC AIR or the THROTTLE %..

so i really just changed those..

and my low-throttle from 1,2,,4,5,6,7 and i curved the map..

at 3000rpm i left it 0%(so no changes) coz that wen boost kicks in..well round der..lol

and i dont want to lean it out der.

so i gota get a re-tune and coz it using a bit of fuel..

but has anyone got AIR MAP details?

im gona start-up another topic to c wat people setting ther afc air map set at...

so.. i took ma car to speedworks in perth, they re-tuned ma afc..

it was oxygen sensor that was playin up!!

so they dis-connected it..and did the tune wit out it

doesnt stall at all anymore! and drives beta!!!

just still uses a bit of fuel..

thank god i work for nissan, and ive already got and put in the new o2 sensor..

but my 33 still chug's fuel..

speedwork had a hell different air map settings than ovaboost..

so i wondering, whould tuning an afc with the o2 sensor connected they re-connecting a new, make any difference?

or would u need a re-tune..???

Sounds like your mixtures were out and the cars gone into limp mode to try make it through the rest of the day. Should of got it tuned properly ages ago...

Mate your cars driving crap because of the style of BOV you've got. Excess air is vented to the atmosphere and not back into the engine (i.e. plumbback). The ECU has measured the amount of air coming into the system through the AFM and is ready to control the a/f ratios but as the excess air is simply vented out of the closed loop the ECU has simply lost it and mixtures are all over the place and the ECU is trying to compensate all over the place

na, my car is fine now since i got the o2 sensor fitted and lowered some of the % of the high throttle air map settings..

all good..i havent had that bunny-hop/learner problem since..

and i get around 400k's outa my 50L tank now,

so yeah..

and i still got the atmo bov connected..and my idle is fine..

i cleaned out the acc and i believe that made a hell of a difference ay...

    • An update regarding the registration with the DVLA I sent off the paperwork the day after I collected the car from the port, two weeks later it was all returned with a letter explaining they have rejected the application. This was because the cheque was £20 short for the road tax (I used a price list I found online). Nevermind it is what it is, it was sent back to them the following day with a new cheque. Fast forward another 2 weeks or so, I called them for an update to be told it had been rejected. Yesterday (16th September) I received the documents back along with another letter, this time it was because I didn't put an X in one box on the V750 (personalised number plate certificate), which declared that I had the rights to the personalised number plate. Why this wasn't mentioned in the first rejection letter, I don't know, but it could have saved this headache. The documents were sent back today, so fingers crossed third times a charm and it'll FINALLY be registered on the road just in time for the bad weather (woohoo!) To cheer myself up I lowered the front 25mm, was sick of seeing it sit like a monster truck. No idea how much clearance I'll have getting on and off the driveway, I'll worry about that when I can actually drive it
    • You're going to miss not worrying about rust in the strut towers like the Skyline shitboxes out there
    • A few little updates that weren't filmed due to not taking long to do or not interesting enough for their own video. My new K&N Air Filter arrived, I went with an RU-4180 which matched the dimensions of the universal cone filter the car originally had.  The battery had gone flat, while that was charging I tidied up the spaghetti wiring at the bulk head and down the sides of the engine Next job was to swap the stereo The Kenwood harness had the female ISO plugs cut off and the male ISO plugs cut off the adaptor loom and joined with bullet connectors. I ordered in a repair loom through work and re-did it all. New Kenwood unit installed (Android Auto, DAB, Bluetooth, Reverse Camera) The bonnet/hood gas struts have been poor since collecting the car. I couldn't find any suitable replacements locally so took a chance on a pair from AliExpress.  The originals don't use a retaining clip to secure the cup onto the ball fixture, would explain why I struggled for 10-15mins trying to pry off the cups. The ball fixtures unscrew using a 12mm spanner, new ones are the same size. Sadly no photo of them fitted, you're not missing much lol The dished Momo steering wheel got replaced with my Momo Tuner, turns out I ordered counter sunk bolts for the horn trim ring (like they normally are for the steering wheel) instead of allen cap (flat seat)  A terrible photo of a Quaife style gear shift knob I've had stashed in my tool box for many years after purchasing the incorrect thread size (I can see a pattern emerging with ordering incorrect parts...) Also threw in a cup holder and a (empty) Boss Coffee can, because why not
