hey guys, ive just recently dynoed my GTT R34 with a pod style filter, and boost controller running at 10 psi...I just need some advice on a few things:

1) Ive achieved 171kwrw at 6300rpm. So i was just wondering if it was best to shift gears at 6300rpm rather than up to 7000rpm as it might lose speed.

2) Is this 171kwrw the same for every gear???

3) I dynoed before with standard boost and got 164kwrw, however the acceleration on standard boost was much faster than the 10 psi boost from around 0-4750rpm. But from about 4750 onwards the 10 psi boost beats the standard boost to 171kwrw...So what i wanted to ask is in terms of speed 164kwrw car can overtake the 171kwrw in first few rpm, then the 171kwrw car can catch up from 4500-7000rpm. Does this mean eventually 171kwrw will win or it might even be a even race???

Dude, when your talking 8rwkw, you wont notice it in all honesty. And i'd be surprised if anyone would ever be able to.

What car is faster will have have far more to do with the driver/tyres and so on than a couple of kw's as we arent talking about highly tuned racing machines here, which notice small changes in power outputs, we are talking about street cars which are not refined to be able to take advantages of minimalistic gains like that.

So to answer the question which car would be faster? Neither

I'd shift around the 6500rpm mark as i assume you'll drop back into a nice mid-range.

Although running more boost i cant see how the acceleration is any different, as it should not be at all. The car will still ramp up boost the same.

If it is, then likely you need a tune with some programable management.

oh thanks mate ;) But i figured there was quite a difference and how i figured that out was when i raced a WRX...wasn't much of driver's skills that made the difference as we did it couple of times...the few more kw's actually made a difference from my perspective BUT then again you might drive like 1000hp cars which compared to the small fries i drive may be no difference at all to you :) Just my thought..

I've had various tunes with various motors (all RB's), and honestly when the dyno has read me 6rwkw more.

This was in 220rwkw setup form at the time. 6rwkw IMO was more conditions on the day of the dyno than anything.

I honestly didnt feel it.

My times @ the strip were more dependant on my 60ft time, and every 0.1 sec made a much higher level of difference at the end of the 1/4 mile that 6rwkw would have.

I think a point here is he has not actually had it tuned.

So it makes more power when it has more boost but becuase there is more boost the tune is screwed and he has lost power in other parts of the rev range. Is that what you mean ?

In answer to your other questions

1> shift point is complicated. You have to rev it slightly past where your peak power is but same time make sure your next gear is not left in lag city becuase you short shifted. So you really should use the trial and error method but start around 6500 rpm and see where that leaves you in your next gear.

2> No different power in different gears as you have different load levels and boost.

3> Possibly, often the smoother tune will beat the tune with higher peak HP.

Will it be much of a difference in kw depending on which gear the tuners use for dyno? Because then why are people showing their kw@rw disregarding or withholding which gear they dynoed it at? 1 dyno could be higher than another depending on which gear the tuners used...

Regarding the 3rd question ive asked, so does it mean the higher the kw@rw it will end up beating the lower kw@rw eventually disregarding how fast their acceleration was in the 1st few rev range?

Gear used is always 4th in a manual. Simple as that, and its a given.

Like i said, a few rwkw really is not going to be noticeable mate.

Whichever car gets the best launch off the line, will be the faster car. The best launch at the drags is critical to the fastest time more so than a 8rwkw.

Simply put - 8rwkw is NOT enough to makeup 2-3 car lengths when under full song.

Of course in the 'perfect world' the car with more power will be faster. But this is reality and whoever shifts faster/launches better etc will be the faster car on the run.

    • The car remains in paint jail. I am now pretty convinced that the whole "RB25 Airboxes are kinda limiting to ~300kw" could be a thing. Also saw a good video from Engine Masters: (Sorry for FB link) (https://www.facebook.com/watch/?ref=search&v=761771519471924&external_log_id=c10bcbb6-2c39-4ff3-9240-287e9921fde6&q=Cold Air Considerations) Where they tested Pod Filter sizes and kept adding bends to a LS3 on an Engine Dyno to find if bends caused power loss. It's a good video worth watching - They did lose ~25hp from making an intake which had 3x90's and a 120 degree. They only lost maybe 1hp with a basic 90. I feel that by sealing up my airbox I have: 1) Created the same restriction a stock airbox would have. 2) Created a very convoluted set of intake 'pipes' by forcing all the air through the ducts. So I am pretty confident I'll be going full circle and have a huge hot air intake pod and actually see a benefit. The air does *not* stay hot once it gets flowing, aided by the ducts, and the pod can then pull air from anywhere. All the posts of yore talk about the stock airbox costing 10-15kw at 300kw+ but you know what? I f**king would very much like that 10-15kw and I remember my own pod filter in engine bay experiences. Turns out the GTT Reo and Headlight brackets really don't allow you to mount GTR items, no matter what the internet says. Various brackets have had to be made up to actually make it fit right for the front bar. Also some idiot mounted a 3L Accusump right where the bumper wants to go, so that has had to be 'relocated' To where, I am still not sure, but it's supposedly mounted in the pictures and I can't see it.
    • Sounds like the oil pressure light is wired into the oil temp sensor... As it warms up, resistance on temp sensor reduces, hence more current can flow and the dash light gets brighter.
    • Got the front subframe and suspension in.
    • If it's cold in summer, then no issue. If it's cutting out every few seconds and you're not reaching your target temp, then there's an issue. One could be the pressure switch and the other issue could be the temp probe inside the evaporator.
