Got a leak on my top tank Radiator seam, could prob get it recrimped/sealed but id rather put the money towards an upgraded radiator, as i have experienced a high needle towing my boat last summer.

Anyway, my question is, since most/all upgraded radiators are designed for Manual transmissions, without the internal tranny cooler, can I forget about this cooler and just rely on the S2 external transmission cooler, which is quite large ? ie what % of cooling would the radiator transmission cooler perform ? maybe i could fit a secondary external cooler ? any ideas ?

Im looking at getting the KOYO type-Z radiator.

Would this one fit? http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/t187748.html

Edit: Sorry just read about the trans cooler issue... was going to suggest a davies craig cooler like sydneykid's setup; then I remembered that the trans fluid gets piped through the bottom of the radiator to WARM it up too to get it up to operating temp as quick as possible. So I don't know if that aluminium job would be suitable; but if it could be made to fit into a C34 chassis it sure looks like it would keep the engine cool :O

Already bought the KOYO, much larger than the factory.

Ive also got a davies craig cooler from my last R33, together with the large S2 stock tranny cooler should be fine. Regarding bypassing the radiator cooler, ive read some conflicting advice, davies craig website says it is fine, just a slight loss of cooling. Considering the radiator thermostat wont open for 5 or so minutes, it wouldnt have any warming effect initially, dont think it is an issue for Australia conditions. Ill check with a few experts before installing.

nice upgrade, i been planning this for mine in the near future.

how much did u pay for it and where did u get it from? and do u have any pics of it?

Im assuming its a full aluminium one? how thick are they?

thanks

here are thicknesses, 53mm for type Z, KL020439

  • 1 month later...

Fitted new radiator today, did timing belt whilst I was there, tomorrow fit secondary Auto cooler in lower area in front of wiper bottle. Radiator is significantly larger than stock, shouldnt have any more worries towing in QLD summer.

G`DAY Simon have you got cooler on power steering ???.iam now making fitting`s to put trans cooler, power steering cooler in same space.as the steering fluid discolour`s quickly+ get`s bloody hot.

Chuckie, havnt got a powersteer cooler, is it only needed if you are throwing it around a lot of corners, or just for everyday usage ? Are you running 2 Auto coolers or just moving factory cooler ?

G`Day Simon not at this moment just get sorted on powersteering.Would like to get mv mod + twin cooler with thermo& fan set up for auto, that`s my aim.just paid insurance which always hurt`s.ALL so going to put cooler on attessersystem if it has fluid in it cool it,so that`s my goal ???,NOT THE BRAKE FLUID.would like to now bit more about troque converter, may be spilt it have it tricked up a bit ????.that will be way down the road though, what sort of km`S are you doing each week ???.cheer`s simon ,chuckie.

Gday, i do about 400k per week, i can remember a power steer cooler on my R33, wonder why nothing on the Stageas, maybe since they were designed for snow. i also run Transmax Z in PS and auto to run them a little cooler, although both are looking brown.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
