for all those people who say it doesnt have a RB26... farrrrrrk. The original GTR never had an RB26, so does that mean the RB26 should never have been used.

Its called development, and its a great thing.

Lets be honest, the RB26 was a good engine, but imagine what can happen now interms or response and torque. Lets be honest, turbo torque is quite useless. Never there where you want it. RB26 showed this quite well. My mate was going through a round about with a R33 GTR and a clean away truck didnt see him. Put the foot down and got stuck in a whole lot of RB26 lag and zero torque. The GTR got creamed lol.

Lets hope the 3.8 responds better!

Yeah, that's true, although only m/seconds - the RB engines have a lot of turbo lag... don't know why... it's powerful etc, but laggy.

Damn, I am still trying to wake up to the fact the the Skyline, V35 is now a granny car... fark me dead will ya...

uhhhh... turbo lag is caused by the turbo used, not the engine.
its a GTR, not a skyline. the skyline's gone back to being the regular passenger car that it started out being in the 60's.
the GT-R when originally launched in 1989 was never intended for your average 20 year old on P's to be hooning around in. it was the refined sports car for the older, mature 30 to 40 year old japanese family man. The new GTR is targetted at exactly the same market this time too.

I was under the impression the first skylines came out at the end of the 50's, the first GT-Rs came out in the late 60's and stopped in the earlly 70's. As for the 'family man' thing, didnt they also made a 4 door GT-R back in the day?

I personally think the Skyline Legacy Died after the DR30 RSX-C. R31 onwards seem to conventional in my personal opinion. I expect a skyline to be a pig of a car. mind you the next skyline I want to add to the stable is the 32 GT-R cos I have a thing for them too and the fact im not rich and I can only dream of owning something Pre R30 and with a GT-R or GT-ES Badge

man there's some misunderstanding about the difference between 'lag' and the boost threshold of an engine

the GT-R engine with standard turbos doesn't have much 'lag' at all- crack the throttle, and almost instantly the boost gauge will swing into positive pressure, even at low revs, showing that the turbos have a very good transient response time. the fact that they need to have some revs on board to make substantial boost and pull hard is no surprise when you combine a smallish capacity with a short stroke design.

i'm sure if he was in 1st gear he would have escaped ;) (or 2nd for a bigger roundabout)

of course the R35 will have every petrol turbo engine Nissan has ever made completely whipped for low end torque- just look at the specs: 1.2 litres more capacity than a 26, 9.0:1 comp ratio, VVT, variable intake runners, and turbos about the same size as those on the old R34 engines anyway (they look to be)

R32 engine ~ 353Nm @ 4400rpm

R35 engine ~ 588Nm from 3200 to 5200rpm. that's what i call a tractable turbo engine :) (now they just need to pinch some VATN turbs from Porsche :()

    • When you crank your car, and hit it with a timing light, can you see a steady crank timing?
    • Oh, forgot to add, A few months ago I was getting mixture codes and the car was using crap loads of fuel. You could smell the unburned fuel in the exhaust, it was crazy strong. Economy was over 17.5 l/100 and usually around 19. I smoked the engine and found a leaky CCV hose which I replaced and then I replaced my two pre cat O2 sensors, I also replaced the MAF. This fixed my mixture codes and improved my exonomy but I'm still 14 - 15 l/100 when pottering about town so something is still amiss. Throttle response is much better and it has more pep but I'd like to know why it's still so thirsty (and I'm hoping that whatever it is gives me a bit more poke).
    • Car is on factory injectors/z32 maf/ q45 throttle body/ z32 ecu with nistune
    • Hello all, currently finishing up a rb25 swap into my s14. Having issues with starting, car has spark (confirmed by pulling a plug and watching it spark), has fuel(confirmed by checking pulse/voltage at injectors all spark plugs are soaked in fuel). Car cranks over and pops into the exhaust with a heavy fuel smell but no attempt to start or run, I have torn the timing cover off and triple confirmed timing, turned the CAS in multiple spots both directions, attempted to start with coolant temp and maf unplugged, checked my fuel lines and made sure they weren’t backwards, checked voltage at cas/injectors/coilpacks, made sure all the grounds in the harness are connected and added a few grounding straps (1 from chassis to block, 1 from chassis to head, and 1 from chassis to igniter chip) I am getting stumped here. As a last ditch effort I made a full grounding harness tonight that’s going to run from the battery and add an extra ground from the battery onto the coil pack harness/igniter chip/ intake manifold/ Wiring specialties harness ground/ and alternator. I’m hoping maybe the grounding harness will fix it here but posting here to see if anyone has any other ideas on what else I can check. My fuel pressure is unknown right gauge will be here tomorrow.  IMG_3206.mov
    • yeah I was shocked when I checked my spare OEM on and as below that's how they come from Nissan. (side interesting note new NEO gearbox and replacement park lack the brass bush on the tips and its just all alloy) unsure about damage to the box currently back at 1110 to be pulled down/inspected and selector fork replaced as he built it previously and given the never before seen failure on his billet forks he is replacing it under warranty. He said he has used always OEM the keyway tab without issue for years so it could be an unlucky coincidence. I did talk to him about the sharp corners and stress concentration too. Re: hard shifts i got 7+ years out of the OEM one and the fork itself failed not the keyway. so could be bad luck as I said or an age thing + heat cycles in box and during fabrication of billet?
