Since I picked my car up from the suspension place, my clutch pedal has been dodgy.. randomly loses half the travel.

Normally, the friction point isn't on the floor and there's a decent amount of travel. When it plays up the pedal physically moves closer to the floor and the friction point is practically on the floor (disengages at the furthest point I can push it).

Any ideas? I had it suggested to me that it could be the master cylinder dying..

Fluid is full, no leaks and pivot point is fine (it broke about a month ago and replaced it with one out of a Serena.. appears to be a more heavy duty item).

When the pivot broke I had no clutch at all, pedal went straight to the floor. Had to drive it home by starting it in 2nd and shifting without the clutch. Was lucky I didn't lose the slave cylinder piston somewhere on the drive home!

I got the exact same problem... This is a very short story of what happend to me

I got a 95 R33 gtst and last night I went on the freeway, got a bit excited and while doing a 100km on 5th, I tired changing to 3rd but I missed gears and lost half of the clutch padel's pressure. Pulled over and left the car running, mean while I could smell the clutch burning. while the car was turned on, I couldn't change gears but when I turned if off, the gears are ok.

I waited for about 20mins then was able to change gears with forcing it in and pressing the clutch paddle with a bit of a force. I heard some sort of a grinding noise (from the gearbox) the car moved very heavily then I called in a tow truck and .... The END

What could this possibly be??

has anybody had a similar problem??

^^ TBO, I don't think his bracket is broken. A big change from 5th to 3rd and missing gears resulting in massive burning clutch smell and not being able to drive it, suggests to me he roasted the f*&k out of his clutch.. maybe even snapped something in the gearbox O_o

You fitted a 25 slave when you put the 25 box in?

I haven't changed anything.. only reason I can think of that air could possibly get in is when I snapped the pivot and the slave cyl nearly came all the way out.. symptoms didn't show for several weeks after that though.

When the engine comes out in the next couple of weeks I'll investigate all possibilities.

Well TBH it went away after the motor came out and went back in. Did adjust the clutch at the top of pedal to bring the friction point off the floor.

Someone reckons it could have been due to the endfloat the last crank had..

hi guys, similar issue with my 32R, few days ago my clutch started to travel to the floor and i had to pump it dozen times to get it into gear.. got progressively worse till last nite i couldnt get it into gear at all..

anyhows i popped the bonnet and checked fluid level, the clutch one (sitting next to brake booster?) was empty so i refilled with brake fluid (is this acceptable, dot4?)..

pumped it few times and bingo, able to change gears smoothly.. i couldnt find any leaks on the firewall but yet to check under the car.. this morning same issue, couldnt get it into gear for ages although fluid level is still full..

nothing has been changed ie, clutch, gearbox etc.. im able to shift gears fine without the car started.. when driving, its all smooth and no noises etc..

wots my next course of action?? bleed the system (will lookup the tut).. how do i check for broken clutch pedal box? is this the same unit in the engine bay?

Umm, ignore the pedal bracket and try figure out WHY you lost all of your clutch fluid. Once you've sussed out the leak, top it up and bleed it properly. The reason you're likely still having problems is A) there is still a leak and B) system needs to be bled after being empty and filled up.

Good luck

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
    • Very good news...I contacted Racebox about it last night. My car is a 2016 so remains to be seen if it is compatible, requires a TCU swap, or is impossible.
    • What ECU are you running? This is probably the biggest question. If it's a PowerFC, I'd probably change the ECU and get something newer that will handle the injectors in a nicer way.
