they will be legal to my knowlage so long as you have the following contected,

pcv hose, o2 sensor, afm (basicly dont touch any hoses that are on the intake pip and you should be fine.

i got done buy a gop once for my pod told my boss the next day (was defected) and see it's legal casue all emission controlls were conected.

i think (in vic) you're only allowed one intake mod (so you can choose one out of pod, larger front/side mounts, bigger throttle bodies, bigger turbos etc). but also it's an epa violation if the pod is an oiled filter (eg K&N) whereas a dry filter (A'Pexi etc) is legal as long as you comply with the 1 intake mod rule.

it is confusing. i remember reading on boostcruising that the rda said u can only have 1 intake mod ie. a pod OR a fmic.

but if u had both, it is defectable?!?!!

and it has to be fastened in place, but they brought in a new one, that it has to be enclosed in a box

*this is scary when a cop was looking ova my engine bay, and i asked him if the pod was defectable (this was like 1yr to 6mths ago) it was a perception thing. in that different cops may think its defectable, when others are fine with it.!!!!

WTF???

check with your local authorities, it varies from state to state.

some states are only allowed one induction mod (i.e. filter OR intercooler)

some require the pod only to be braced

some require enclosed

do the research

some states don't even care, it's what the booking officer decides.

Hi Guys,

I work as a cop in NSW so I can give an insight on the legalities but only obviously for NSW.

Pod filters are illegal unless you have an enclosure. Further, blow offs can't vent into the atmosphere.. Basically if you have a engineer's certificate you are generally fine, but from my experiences most ppl never do especially with the tachos on the 'A' pillar. At the end of the day most cops will let it slide as long as you're not a smart arse when spoken to. And most general duties cops won't know what a pod filter is...

Hope this helps,

this is qld. hope it helps.

*shit, my muffler is angled upwards, drift style, and thats illegal!!!! GAYNESS

u could go one of these, but still. i would actually call your state transport authority. or even better, just email your local police station. we can do that up here on the sunny coast, and they actually help.

In wa your allowed a pod filter as long as you have a bracket made up to secure it, it doesnt have to be inclosed and it can be oiled.

Just got a gtst across the pits, with a pod, fmic, exhaust and bov and they dont really care as long as its secured and wont fall off.

Like everyone said this will vary from state to state, and most of the time if your not a dickhead the cop will let you go, but the second your a smart ass they'll find something to defect you for even if its legal..

Its best that your pod filter is boxed, for legal reasons and for proformance reasons.

Proformace wise, sucking in dirt, water and other crap prob isnt the best for any engine.

I have a clear case for R33 N/A's pods for sale, PM if interested.

There are many inconsistencies with this issue.

From my knowledge it must be enclosed to be legal. But it's still defectable if an officer decides it's defectable.

I doubt it's a problem in most cases when it's enclosed and you're just honest with cops, but if you're defected you have to change it to a stock airbox unless you have an engineer's certif. (which still isn't a guarantee).

I think in real-world circumstances you can manage fine with a pod, but it's always a grey-area.

    • So I'll put filler past the repair area a bit to make sure I don't miss anything. Then I'll block it until it's almost level, put the guidecoat, then keep blocking until it's gone. Then it's still wavy.  In regards to hitting the panel, I saw this video might give more context - Skip to 0:47 he knocks it down. But yeah I'm sanding until the guidecoat is gone then checking because otherwise my filler is still well above the bodyline. Unless what you're saying is I should put guidecoat around it early, surrounding the filler then stip once it's gone?
    • I refreshed the OEM injectors with the kit and connected it up. It now ideals okay even with the IACV removed. Driving still has the same cutoff issue like the 550cc injectors so the issue is somewhere else. I bought FPG's Fuel Pump Hanger. I will be installing it next, but it is not as straightforward as I thought it was with my limited wiring knowledge and no instruction on the specific model I purchased (FPG-089). I also got the incorrect billet clamp as I could not find info on the OEM sizing.

    • No. Turbo shuffle and surge/flutter are not the same thing. Specifically, on a GTR, turbo shuffle has a definite meaning. On a GTR, the twin turbos are assumed to be the same thing and to operate the same way, exactly. In reality, they do not. Their exhaust sides are fed and exhaust a little differently, to each other. Their inlet sides are fed and exhausted a little differently, to each other. Consequently, when they are "working" they are often at slightly different points on the compressor map compared to each other. What this means, particularly when coming on boost, is that one of them will spool up and start producing extra flow compared to the other, which will put back pressure on that other compressor, which will push the operating point on that other compressor up (vertically). This will generally result in it bumping up against the surge line on the map, but even if it doesn't, it upsets the compressor and you get this surging shuffle back and forth between them That is "turbo shuffle" on a GTR. It is related to other flutter effects heard on other turbo systems, but it is a particular feature of the somewhat crappy outlet piping arrangement on RB26s. There are plenty of mods that have been attempted with varying levels of success. People have ground out and/or welded more material into the twin turbo pipe to try to prevent it. Extending the divider inside it works, removing material doesn't. There are aftermarket replacement twin turbo pipes available, and these exist pretty mush purely because of this shuffle problem.
    • You can temporarily* use lock collars to keep it in place until you can do the bushes, back the nuts off, slide them in, snug back up. *temporarily is often for ever
