Hey Guys

I got my dream car but it's far too loud!

Some specs -

TRUST extended split dumps

EXHAUST TECHNOLOGY custom twin system with Apexi valve and custom cross over pipe...

Pic of split System

Pic of tail pipes

What is my best option for quitening the car down without ruining the performance?

I'd also prefer to keep the tail pipes rather than go for a single big drain pipe.

Thankyou..

Get some decent mufflers mate, looks like you have two pissy cannons and thats it. :)

Which basically wont do anything... ! One of my mufflers is probably better than the two you have.

The cross-over's purpose doesnt reduce noise either, so not sure why you mentioned it :(

I have the same from section as you (Trust extensions), two BIG custom mufflers, 94dB 3.5" all the way and will flow over 350rwkw.

Done and dusted ;)

There have been a few "exhaust noise" threads now, and ive posted pics of mine in there 2-3 times so have a search if you want a visual.

sorry, but whats the point of the crossover section?

I think it has a similar effect to a balance pipe in v8's.

If you didnt have it it would be like having two 4cylinder motors creaming their balls off, and you would loose the V8 grumble.

And in this case, two 3cylinder turbo motors.

I wonder what that would sound like :)

it does actually but your right those rear mufflers wont control the noise, must admit though marky mark is without a doubt the best exhaust shop in aus. im sure if you go back and say i want it quieter he will do it.

i wish i had the oppurtunity for him to do my ltd exhaust :) he has done plenty of work for me in the past and shits on anything else i have seen from anywhere.

Yer to start off wid in my torana i had a twin exhaust and it didnt crossover and it had a reali bark sound to it.. sounded reali bad especially when reving up higher... then it was rewelded with a cross over, it lost the bark sound and made the lower V8 rumble stand out more... is beautiful :)

not a 100% sure but the purpose of the balance pipe on a v8 is to balance the back pressure between the two banks, so its not needed on a turbo car as the turbo's create the back pressue for the engine, not the exaust

but the system looks good, id just chuck a muffler on each side, should quiten it down a bit

You'll need a couple (one for each pipe) of centre mufflers or silencers/resonators. That's the only way you'll get it quieter without changing the rear mufflers, which look too nice to change.

silencers/resonators wont do a thing.

The cross over is something alone the lines of below, its probably not exact, but yeah... just a starting point.

To even the exhaust pulses/tone. (nfi the true term)

If you have 3 cylinders, and then 3 all the way to the rear without crossing, it sounds retarded as its not even (ie all 6).

So the cross-over lets this occur and giving it a good sound

That said, i had a ZJ fairlane many years ago no balance pipe and it sounded good.

Yep, it's a GTR R32.

Ok, so it seems that I need to replace the existing mufflers with 2 decent big ones. The guy at the exhaust shop wanted to put in a single big muffler in the middle where the crossover is. Will that make the car sound wierd?

nice looking exh....are you running cats? (i found one cat was enough in addition to a shitty cannon to get my 26 quiet enough to go over the pits) otherwise some chambered mufflers somewhere in the middle will do the job.

sir racer; I had the same issue and ended up going with a custom made 4" muffler.... couldnt find a 3.5" anywhere (3.5" thin wall stainless is not an easy thing to find either - i ended up paying double for a 3.5" bend what i coudl get a 3" one for, sort off explains the lack of local 3.5" mufflers also)- cheaper in the end to go 4" if there was the room

    • Haha I do that.. thats when it chirps..The bit point for me is almost non-existent. Otherwise I stall it. But yes, in terms of performance, the clutch is solid af.
    • Greg speaks wisdom. These dirty old Datsuns are only value when they are cheap. When they are not cheap, there is no value. Sounds contradictory, but it's true. We are now 20 years past the hey day of modifying cheap 90s JDM cars for small amounts of money. This is a different world. If you are rich and can afford not to care about what is effectively wasting money on an old Datto shitter, then I have no reason to argue against it. But if you are wanting to experience what we all experienced back in 2005 (and I bought my car last century!) then there is no way to do it.
    • Short answer: No. Medium answer: No, because you still need to conjure the things out of thin air to bolt them to a NA to make it a NA+T. Long Answer: No - The things you need to conjure - meaning a turbo, intercooling, manifolds, exhaust, intake/manifold/piping, clutch, injectors, fuel pump, AFM (?), ECU + Wiring (woo, N/A loom fun) have to come from somewhere. You could have many scavenged these things from an OEM car that someone had upgraded from and use some of these. This will be cost prohibitive now, especially so in the USA. You'd probably pay the same for newer, upgraded components that are better than old OEM stuff from 25-30 years ago. None of these big ticket items are re-usable for the N/A car. Why not buy new and upgrade while you're there? The only real consideration is turbo and fuel sizing and determining whether you want to stay within the bounds of the OEM engine or get into rebuild territory. These limits ARE lower with a N/A motor and especially N/A gearbox at the starting point. And if you're gonna upgrade those then you may as well consider having them built to begin with. Because everyone here knows you're never far from that next engine rebuild once you start making the power you want... The cars you see on the internet and SAU etc have been built over decades. If you're really clued in... you would sell your US car to somebody for what you paid for it. You would then scour AU JDM pages or SAU and buy a car like Dose's on this forum with your powerful American Dollar. This will save you so much money in the long term. Importing it could be tricky. Or it might not because USA. I have long said the only reason 90's Japanese stuff took off was because a) Japanese people had Japanese cars so that is what they used b) Australians could import these cars to Australia with very minimal changes and use them on the road here c) Neither country had well-priced access to US or EU Sports Cars. I don't believe the JDM scene would have taken off in Australia at all if we had EU priced EU BMW M offerings, or more especially the AUS V8 Scene would never have existed if we had the multitude of US cars like Camaros, Mustangs, Corvettes at the prices you folks do. After all - Do the math. I would say put a V8 in your R34 and that's the smart way forward. It is. I did it. I know this from my own experience. But at that point there's no reason to simply not buy a C5 or C6? It would be simpler and easier and cheaper and bette-
    • Reading all this... hurts lol. I have an ENR34 5MT and I paid an inflated USA price for the car alone, had to do tons of preventative maintenance past that, and so I'm over $30K USD into the car already and haven't even touched power.  I wanted to +t it. Not even trying to make GTR numbers, I'd be happy with 250hp.  Can I get away with paying much less to make that happen?
    • Damn you’ve done well, definitely snapping necks.
