When driving your car for from day to day, how do you drive it? Probably a silly question but im interested in how others compare

I find that once the car is all warmed up i drive like a grandma, take off slow at lights, take my time slowing down and coasting to a light .... and then il give it the occasional squirt out of a corner maybe 80% throtle.. can't help myself :) it's quite rare now a days for me to go pedal to the metal.

Havn't presented the question well but im sure people get what im going at..

dunno what you mean. im granny spec while warming up but once she is, it depends on if i am in a hurry. if im not i tend to coast to a stop and take of relatively slowly (key word: relatively). if i am rushed then i boot it a fair bit.

drive it like you would any type of car...warm up to normal operating temps before u start fanging it...and let it cool down if u have been fanging it before you shut the car off...turbo timer normally comes in handy but not neccessary.

yeah im pretty hopeless.. hahaha

to put it simple will it be a day or a week that will go by before you give it a squirt or is it a day to day quick fix..

When I steal cars, I thrash the living shit out of them from cold.

I drift around every corner with my head and right arm out the window.

when I'm stopped at lights, I do a burn out on the spot for about 30 seconds before the lights go green.

oh.. umm.. we were talking about when we stole cars right?

right?

So I just want to check. You started a thread to see if you were the only one that drove your car, normal, in normal situations, such as driving to work? Just thought I'd check.

No i started a thread wanting to know how people drive there cars from day to day... have they gotten over the turbo novelty and just putt around all day.. just trying to gauge concept here..

For exp.. i got my car and the first few weeks most of the driving i did was hard driving, now a days i putt around 95% of the time and when i feel the urge i give it a bit of a belting.

i drive normal tom cruisy untill the next performance mod then i tend to give it a work out to prove itself when i can for a week or so then back to tom cruisy untill the next mod.

yep... i would say i do the same as well..

other alternatives is a dyno run but cant really afford to pay 80 bucks everytime i get a new mod

Otherwise.. DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT hahahahahaha

gold

woah wait a second are you guys actually saying you drive agressively and speed on public roads... geez I thought this sort of conversation was illegal on SAU...

Hell I drive depending on how fast I want to go... most of the time I drive like I'm on a race track with warm up and cool down laps... and then come in the pits for fuel fairly regularly

:whistling: you've made my day once again. I'm glad to know if i have had a shit day or something i can log onto SAU and search threads to see if you have posted to make me piss myself laughing :D Good stuff!!

i drive pretty normally since i only got 1 point left and i am on my green P's, so cops like to follow me just waiting for something to pull me over for, like just now at lunch a cop followed me on hume hwy waiting to pull me over i slowed down to like 55kmh and he decided to over take me LOL so yea most of time its drive granny style. :laughing-smiley-014:

Ok...

Well I drive mine normal, to get best fuel economy. So its normally moderate and even acceleration.

I'm with him. Frequently drive to gf's place / shops / work without hitting boost at all

i warm up the thing for abt 5mins before i start driving it....then drive it slow for the first 15 mins and after that give it here and there but try to get the fuel economy out of it as well....but thats why i have a daily....the skyline only gets driven on the weekends....

    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
    • Yes then it will turn on but I want the car features to work
    • My thought is if you were just moving it forward and the upstream geometry remained the same, then no difference at all. But because the current one has the filter direct into the AFM inlet, you effectively have the best chance of a completely symmetric air flow profile upstream, and in, the AFM, whilst the aftermarket inlet thingo has a (small, to be sure) bend between the filter and the AFM. That would bias the flow to the outside of the bend (downstream of the bend) which might well reduce the size of the signal seen by the AFM, for the same total flow rate. Having said that: If you're proposing to make your inlet look like a hybrid of your existing one and the aftermarket one, such that there is no bend where the filter is clamped on... then I say it will be just fine. If there is going to be such a bend, then, if you can align the insertion of the AFM blade such that it is at right angles to the plane of the bend, then there is a better than even chance that the centreline velocity where the blade is will remain more or less the same, and the velocity will just be a little faster to the outside of that, and just a little slower to the inside. **This is not professional investment advice and you should consult a suitably qualified ouija board, tea leaves or the intestines of a goat for more accurate prognostication.
    • Hi Tao, Thanks for your reply.  It's been a while and I managed to get the valve stem seals replaced with the head on the car.  Unfortunately this didn't solve my issue, the car still smokes a lot after idling (to be honest during idle you can see a bit of blue smoke from the exhaust), same after deceleration. I will try disconnecting the valve cover breathers, do I leave the PCV valve in? By engine oil drain pipe, do you mean the turbo oil drain?
    • What about if you just give it direct 12v and earth?
