I have a feeling the V-spec will be a flop.

With prices so close to the Porces flagship ritch old people will vote for the pegidree and badge of a high known German engeneered sports car.

As for beating the Italians and Germans on their home turf.. bring it on..

the v-spec isn't going to be aimed at rich posers. it is going to be a track car aimed at people that race. i'd expect it to be marketed to race against lambos and porsches in production car races.

well why not just buy a (here comes my AWESOME technicalities) the porche with the roll cage etc. its a little more expensive.. but takes the same perspective as the V spec.. a track car..

well that will be the main opposition it will have. but at the end of the day if someone is serious into racing they aren't going to overlook the gtr if it will lap quicker then the porsche.

anyone who is serious about motor racing is going to want this:

Um.... no they won't.

For starters what motorsport can you do in that? You can do plently in a GT3RS or a GT-R V Spec.

Also haven driven both an Ariel Atom and a GT3 I know which one I would buy and it sure aint the over hyped go-kart.

The challenge the V-Spec is going to have in competing with GT3 sales if they are priced the same is in making the car at least as good to drive as the GT3. Not everyone is going to buy the car to win. Most are going to buy one because they love participating and behind the wheel of a 997 GT3 is a very nice place to be. I've even recently driven a 997 Turbo which is faster than the GT3 and also a brilliant car but given a a wad full of cash I'd still buy the GT3 as it really is that good to drive. So the GT-R better be good.

Snow,

Do you think the GTR will enjoy the benifit of sponsor racing? That is sponsors who want to stand out from the crowd will throw the money behind something that has enormous hype and is not the same car as the rest of the field? Even if it is not the proven performer that the GT3 is.

Given the following the GTR has amongst it's fans across the world, i can see some big money boys going out and getting themsleves a V-Spec to play with. Especially now that it will be available to the US market.

Red-Bull Racing GTR anyone?

Hmmm I personally cant wait to see the Vspec, but Im a little doubtful as to how well it will do sales wise...

Dont get me wrong, Im sure it will have masses of appeal as a track special type car (same as a GT3), but look at it this way, with no extra power and less weight for amazingly close to double the standard GTRs price, I think quite a number of potential buyers will see it as a case of not quite being sure why you are paying so much extra?

While Im sure the engine, even if it wont be getting any more power, will have some work done to it (eg more/bigger oil coolers/radiators etc), and while you are getting more track oriented suspension, I think for approximately $100,000 above the standard price, a lot of people would opt for a base model car, and then get the work done themselves for significantly less money.

How much could it really cost to get a base model GTR up to the Vspec standards? The weight reduction would be largely free, perhaps 8k for a few carbon panels, bigger oil cooler and radiator allow perhaps 2k, some brilliant high end track oriented suspension for around 10 - 15k, and say 2k for labour?

I might be missing a few things out here obviously, but it really seems a *long* way short of justifying an $100,000 price hike...

    • Just get rid of the orignal low impedance injectors, replace with modern high impedance injectors, and you won't need the resistors. Wire direct, as per any other engine.
    • Tao, we're not talking about the ECU boost ref. We're talking about the wastegate signal source.
    • Flapping up and down is a consequence of the varying pull on the belt. When the engine speed is suddenly increased, the tension in the belt increases too. When that engine accel changes to decel, the tension is reduced and turns up as a little extra length of beltes between the pulling and dragging pulleys. That extra length flaps up, then down. There's all sorts of other harmonic stuff going on too.
    • hello ladies and gentlemen so i’ve swapped a rb26dett into my r33 gtst and ive come across many speed bumps but its nearly over what im having issues with is the injector resistor box that are normally on the RB26 fuse box but im still using my rb25 fuse box and as a result my injectors aren’t getting power and is the last thing i need to figure out so the car can start. can anyone help me out on where i can find a wiring diagram for the rb26 harness to see where the injectors are supposed to receive power
    • The boost pressure at the compressor cover will be higher than at inlet manifold. lets say, trying to hold 20 psi flat at 7000 RPM. If your wastegate opens at 20 psi measured at the compressor cover, the engine may only be seeing 16 psi. Your base pressure reading at engine would be 20psi by 4K and 16psi by 7K while your MAP at compressor housing still reads 20psi at 7K. For this reason your ECU's MAP source is never on the compressor cover. This difference isn't a major concern if you're using an electronic boost controller (EBC).
