Hey guys,

I'm new to the forums and all this nissan thing! I'm looking into buying a R33 Series 2 very soon as i've just sold my car!

Now as i said above, i don't know what to look for when buying a skyline, good service history, mild mods ? If someone can break them down in a list that would be very helpful!

Oh and I'm in SA!

Hi Vlad, Personally i would be buying one with some tasteful mods, such as Exhaust, Front Mount Cooler, Power Fc. Now they are the basic mods you NEED to be able to get decent power, but then comes turbo, fuel pump, air flow metre which are more of a personal choice, where as the exhaust and so on are a must and generally cost a bit more(apart from a new turbo), When it comes to bodykit and wheels.......... they are a personal choice and no doubt you will change them up when you want your own look. Hope that helps

Thanks for the reply! Honestly i don't want a car with excessive mods, as i am sure i wont use the full potential of that car! So as you have said I'd be looking into a car with really simple mods, exhaust, front mount etc. Your car does look nice but from the pictures I'm sure it will be out of my price range :)

believe me mate once you put your pedal to the metal and feel that rush....you will be making use of all the power you got....as my advice get something stockish if you can and also make sure its manual...autos in skylines just suck man

I think he's talking about a 2 way, then it's most prob been drifted/thrashed

nah, an a-lsd acts like a very lazy viscous, locks when it wants, single spins around corners etc....

there in the v spec gtr's and late late model r33 gtst, im gettin rid of mine....

when u buy ur s2 look above the rev taco, if it has slip light and a-lsd the car has it

Personal opinion, and purpose must be considered. For circuit work and hills, I still believe manual would be better. If cruising and drags is your thing, then shift kitted auto hands down.

^^ sorry I have to disagree with you Lee, and totally agree with Allan.

I haven't yet done the kevlar plates/belts, upgraded stall converter and valve body to my R34 yet, but even with the standard auto trans I would kick the living snot out of a same power R34 anywhere - including the hills. With my steering wheel controls in semi-manual mode, I can change gears and apply power significantly earlier than a manual could - hence take higher speed into the corner (change down to slow myself down with my foot still on the throttle), then change up past the apex with my foot planted to the floor. I would be gone and have 2 gear changes done in the time a manual could match revs, clutch safely and apply power safely without spinning the wheels.

And once I get my trans upgrade done I am assured it will be 100% better, faster and stronger. I can't wait - and it will cost a lot less than my twin plate Exedy cost me in the S15 :rofl:

Yep love the clutch kicks man....and as per above comment i think i was applying what i knew from personal experience....and i disagree with hills driving even if yours is semi auto....maunals will any day give the driver a lot more better control then auto shiftkits or tiptronic...

But I say don't make statements unless you have been through the hills in a tiptronic - it just makes you come off as ignorant. :O - like I said, (once I get my shift kit & trans upgrade) I guarantee you I will kick any manuals ass with the same power through the hills :rofl:

^Ahh, I see why you said what you did andrew, but I was actually trying to take the piss that so many young people "read something on the internet it must be true!"

I actually think that tiptronic auto's are the way to go, and would love to have a Golf GTi with the DSG gearbox, or even (just) the tiptronic Liberty GT would be nice!

    • I know I have to get a wheel alignment but until then I just need to bring the rear tyres in a bit they're wearing to the belt on the inside and brand new on the outside edge. I did shorten the arms a bit but got it wrong now after a few klms the Slip and VDC lights come on. I'd just like to get it to a point where I can drive for another week or two before getting an alignment. I've had to pay a lot of other stuff recently so doing it myself is my only option 
    • You just need a wheel alignment after, so just set them to the same as current and drive to the shop. As there are 2 upper links it may also be worth adding adjustable upper front links at the same time; these reduce bump steer when you move the camber (note that setting those correctly takes a lot longer as you have to recheck the camber at each length of the toe arm, through a range of movement, so you could just ignore that unless the handling becomes unpredictable)
    • I got adjustable after market rear camber arm to replace the stock one's because got sick of having to buy new rear tyres every few months. Can anyone please let me know what the best adjustment length would be. I don't have the old ones anymore to get measurements. I'm guessing the stock measurement minus a few mm would do it. Please any help on replacing them would be fantastic I've watched the YouTube clips but no-one talks about how long to set the camber arm to.
    • Heh. I copied the link to the video direct, instead of the thread I mentioned. But the video is the main value content anyway. Otherwise, yes, in Europe, surely you'd be expected to buy local. Being whichever flavour of Michelin, Continental or Pirelli suits your usage model.
    • Continental have consistently beaten the absolute shit out of every other performance tyre in Wet/Damp/Cold conditions and give up a little bit of time (half a second at most) in the dry. Almost like it's engineered for German conditions or something. I'd def give those a try.
