hey all!

Im going to japan from the 2nd till the 12th of January 08.. first couple of days i have some business to attend to with the great help of somebody i have met here!! (Cheers Steve!!).. Any hints and tips would be great! Landing the 3rd in narita, then travelling up to hokkaido/sapporo. then was going to train it back down to tokyo over the next couple of days.

Anything carwise worth seeing from the journey between hokkaido and tokyo?

Hints and tips? just putting together a game plan of the things to do and see nightlife being the big seller... (roppongi etc etc)

Will finish up at autostrapon in tokyo then fly out. Money being an object whos got some pointers!!

Cheers All :)

I thought Goryokaku in Hakodate (South Hokkaido) was good. Also the olympic ski jump in Sapporo was pretty cool. The Sapporo beer factory was very very good... until the next morning.

Heheh well give the name of my website is dr1ft.jp you can probably guess what all of those events are.

But to give you a hint, there is drifting, some are drift comps, there is some drift practice and some of them are drifting, also some drifting events and a I think one or two of them are drifting... oh yeah and one of them is 100% definitely drift.

One day I might make gr1p.jp for people that prefer that sort of thing. It just means buying some other magazines, but that costs money and all that jazz.

So let me make sure i got this right.

Ill expect see a few cars that might be drifting?

And definately one car that is drifting?

At a drift comp or drift practice which will be the reason that these drifters will be drifting? ;)

Very cool website by the way has answered many of my questions.

These site has a lot of events

Not just drifting... as while it is the current thing, I know people are interested in other things.

What will i expect to see at mobara and Honju?

I have heard of drifting going on at Mobara but never heard of Honju.

Are they both worth the trip out?

Will there be a good turnout at both events?(weekdays?)

The event held at Tsukuba on the 19th of Jan looks to be some sort of amateur track work day.Ones like you can attend at eastern creek and oran park.As this will be the only day i can get to Tsukuba would this event be worth attending?

I might still go.

Dr1ft.jp can you tell me what will be happening at Fuji on the 16th of Jan and at Nikko on the 17th of Jan?

It depends, definitely maybe.

Honju is this place http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y49ei4oU3iQ

Mobara is this one

19th? No, it isn't, it is just cone dodging on gymkhana course... I noticed that you have listed the 13th as TAS. This is a big mistake in my opinion. There are 60 people drifting and 25 people doing drift on the full circuit... it one of the only drift events on the full circuit and at the same time as TAS. I would reasonably assume that everybody who is interested in drifting near tokyo will be there. I would be very surprised if you didn't see some D1 cars there. If there is any event you intend to go to, then this is the one. I could of course be totally wrong

Fuji on the 16th is drifting in the carpark circuit --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avN4H-vpveU

Nikko on the 17th is drift practice with a rock, paper, scissors competition -->

All the events could be great or could be boring... there is always a bit of luck involved.

Thanks mate,as always wicked info.I allowed 2 days at TAS just because of the size of the place, hoping to see as much as i can.But now knowing about the full Tsukuba circuit being open to drift, aswell as the fact there might be D1 drivers attending,it will be too much of an opportunity to pass up.Is it possible to see TAS in one day??

I have never been to TAS, but I have been to Osaka Automesse and you can see that in a day, but you are tired after it. It sort of depends, seeing cool cars sitting on carpet is all well and good but to be honest I would rather see them driving around. Even if it is the 2007 car and not the latest 2008 special with the latest V-Max Ultra Spec-R BOV.

It may be the case that the D1 drivers and cars are all stuck in the TAS halls, so it could be a bunch of learners plodding around at Tsukuba, but it is a risk I would take. My suggestion would be to go to TAS the day before, see how far you get through it and then sleep on it and decide in the morning which you would like to go to. Either way you win.

Autopolis

What sort of event ?

I have been told autopolis is not to hard to get to from tokyo via public transport.

it may not be hard to get to but it would take at least 6 hours to get from tokyo to autopolis by shinkansen and transfers etc. it's on kyushu mate, long way south from tokyo. you can fly there in about an hour though.

much like aus most tracks I have been to in japan aren't easily accesible by PT.

The big problem isn't getting the train to near the track, it's getting from the station to the track. often we are talking 10 or 20kms. so by taxi you are looking at $60+ each way. and bus is not very easy to take if you cannot speak japanese.

having said all that. Mobara, Fuji, Tsukuba are all acessible from tokyo. and I'm sure there are more to add to that list that I haven't been to in the tokyo area. fuji speedway has access info on their website.

good advice by dr1ft.jp, i highly recommend Mobara, awsome track, the others are ok to get to, there is a station very close to tsukuba, if you are good with your directions, only 6km to track! Fuji again is easy got to, but buses only run at weekends to circuit i believe! Autopolis is out of the question man...Hey dr1ft.jp, il be back in Osaka next week, you never know, could hit you up for a beer if you buying haha

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
