hey all i have only recently bought a turbo skyline, it has a rb25det wit forged internal, im not to sure what oil temp or pressure is normal, the oil temp usually sits at around 80-95 depending on how im driving, im goinf to be using this car for drift and just wana know what the limits should be on oil temp and is i should get an oil cooler, also another thing, it has an apexi fc and im unsure what the knock gauge means, it usualy wont go above 10, what should the knock be at? cheers

Knock should ideally be at zero...though 10 is generally fine. <20 is ok too. Knock is bad for engines and generally indicates a bad tune or overly sensitive knock sensor, and is one of the many reasons for engine rebuilds.

Not sure what PSI oil pressure should be at.

Oil temperature is important, 85-90 is ideal. If your are taking it drifting an oil cooler may be in order but you won't know till you go.

85-90 is ideal between brackets.. if ur just cruisin around doing nothing other then that... no thrashin, then ur oil coolin system sucks balls. Introducing minimal heat into the turbo will make it go to 100 real easy. while ur drifting/thrashin the car, 80-90 is ideal.. Stays relatively "cool" enough so it doesnt thin the oil out too much.

If it strays over 110 while on the track, which will happen very quickly and easily, then pull over and let the shit cool down

I had an oil cooler on my previous RX7 and while being severly cained, on a 40deg day the oil temp never rose above 85.. awesome cooling (had water spray) but on a cold day... it would struggle to get past 60deg.

Oil pressure... around 20psi @ idle is ok.. even down to around 10ish is ok.. @ around 6000rpm ud want it be @ around 60psi (from memory)

Dude, as per your other thread, what Gary (Sydneykid) said is worth knowing.

Any track work Id suggest an oil cooler - any "row" cooler is better than no cooler.

I need to get an oil temp guage so I know whats going on.

    • Maybe also really stiffly sprung track cars. Get the inside wheel up in a corner and all the fun stops. Also me sometimes (rarely) when I have to stand on the brake to convince the diff to drive the wheel that is still on the ground when I'm trying to diagonally get over severe driveway entrance, etc.
    • I feel like I'm missing something. You had an authorised installer come out and install a new alarm. Post install the car doesn't start, and you aren't getting the installer back to fix what they did wrong?
    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
