don't really have sound clips, but I've got a video of me goofing around with my old GTS on a motorkhana day.

sorry to do this eug. im aware that this question may have been answered but i have been on sau since 8.30 pm till nowlooking for my answer and cant seem to find the one for the exhaust i want.

I like loud cars i mean loud 3 blocks away.

so on my na i was thinking 3"inch the whole way with a hiflow cat and 4 1/2 inch cannon

1. what type of noise will i get???

2. is it the way to go for loud sound?

3. will the hi flow cat make it louder?

1. the type of noise will depend on the material used. i would guess that something light like titanium would give a metalic sharp sound, whereas something like mild steel will give a deep growl.

2. the muffler type; straight pipes, twin pipes, single cannon, etc.

3. no cat/gutted cat will make it louder, a cat will add to the muffling effect. regardless i'd say the effects of cat or no cat would be minimal. what you're after can be achieved via cat back.

what type of loud are you after? think about the metal's properties and density.

my suggestion, if you're not concerned with too much power loss; a 2.25" exhaust with a 4"/5" stainless steel/titanium exhaust.

i'll let the thread stay, on the condition that you alter the title and the sub title with appropriate headings and tags so others can find it for future reference :D

ah to be honest the sound im searching for is something that is loud sounds mean. that can be heard from a fair distance lol. lets just say LOUD!!! will the 3 inch straight through with the 4.5 inch cannon deliver on that??? after you mentioning the metal diffrences id probably go mild steel. thanks buddy

with a 3 inch you'll loose far to much low end that you wouldn't be happy with it, you can acheive the sound your looking from a 2 1/2 inch cat back with no resonater and a straight threw muffler and a cannon.

I had this set-up for a week on my Na 33 a few years back and it only lasted on the car for a week for me because it was way to loud could be heard from 3 + streets away.

Also remember an na will always be way louder and have higher pressure out the exhaust as there is no turbo to restrict the flow and rob power from the exhaust heance quietening it,

Sizing is also important in na's as you need to keep better backpressure as with a slight bit more backpressure the exhaust will actually flow better, this is not the case in a turbo exhaust as you just want all your exhaust pressure kept in the manifold into the turbo and then you need the freest flowing exhaust you can get.

I think Cara on here has a 3" system on her 34 and it sounds tough as, although her car is used for a lot of dyno comp's so having a bigger system will help as she no doubt gained a bit of high end power you'll almost never use on the street, she will have lost some low end torque and for a street car you want as much torque as u can get :D

My NA 33 had a 3" cat-back system on it when I bought it... it's a 3", mandrel bent stainless steel system going into 2x 3" cannons. Let's just say LOUD!!!! I frequently set off car alarms in the carpark at work, just by driving past at well under 3k RPM. I've gotta say though, I felt it was lacking a little down-low torque, so I've now got a 2.5" cat-back, but which goes into the same twin 3" cannons... sounds almost as loud, but much more low-down torque. It's not for everyone... my GF finds it a little too loud... but ah well! with the 3" -> 2x3", it used to drone like crazy... never really bothered me but most of my passengers got sick of it pretty quickly! Now the drone is much less... still there at certain RPM, but not too bad.

It's all up to the individual... I got EPA'd with my original exhaust... lol 90dB? pfft! no way! I got a 2.5" -> muffler -> 2.5" tip made up... that was bang on 90dB and it felt like my engine was missing compared to the old one!

Droning sux for passengers in a skyline as if you sit in the back your closer in the exhaust so its way louder.

Though i might also mention even after i changed my 2 1/2 inch system to a 2 1/4 system i had it tested and pulled 99DB which is 3 times louder autible noise than a 90Db exhaust system. you can make any exhaust size loud you just have to know what to and not to include on the system and how to make it flow, and exhaust shop should be able to make it up for you.

the only thing im scared of is that the fact everyone is telling me that i will loose way to much power.... i dont mind a bit but i still want the car to have some go. but then i think about the noise and how i want it loud.....

i have mates that have had 2.5 inch and it doesnt sound a whole lot diffrent, not what i expected any way thats why im thinking 3..

louder, absolutly!!!! My 2.5" all the way is 90dB, legal, and sounds like it isn't even there compared to my old 3" to twin 3" cannons. VERY LOUD. There was a noticible low-down torque gain with the smaller exhaust... not that it was un-driveable or anything, but it felt like the power was shifted up the rev-range a bit too far for my likings.

I have a set of copy extractors, 2.5 inch mild steel exhaust, and a cannon of some sort on a RB20DE Cefiro. It's loud.

No loss of power.

I had to put in a hod dog type resonator though as it had a reverbaration at high RPM.

Runnin a 3" Titanium Cat back w/straight pipe, easy fix for the droning is called volume on the stereo. I know I gained power from putting this exhaust on but I also have a pod filter and MSD Sport Compact Ignition box with Blaster coil, Iridium plugs and always keep cap and rotor fresh and also 8.5mm Super conductor wires. Car comes out Faster since the cat back was added. Oh yes it is loud as F*** But sounds so sweet.

Hows this, my old car 2.25 inch with a 4 and a half inch cannon.

drive by up to the speed limit ;) and then about 200m down the road double clutching shows you how loud mine was for it's size without compromising down low torque.

pretty loud man... but wack on a turbo man.. u will get volume...and sound like a jet... instead of.

    • This. As for your options - I suggest remote mounting the Nissan sensor further away on a length of steel tube. That tube to have a loop in it to handle vibration, etc etc. You will need to either put a tee and a bleed fitting near the sensor, or crack the fitting at the sensor to bleed it full of oil when you first set it up, otherwise you won't get the line filled. But this is a small problem. Just needs enough access to get it done.
    • The time is always correct. Only the date is wrong. It currently thinks it is January 19. Tomorrow it will say it is January 20. The date and time are ( should be ! ) retrieved from the GPS navigation system.
    • Buy yourself a set of easy outs. See if they will get a good bite in and unthread it.   Very very lucky the whole sender didn't let go while on the track and cost you a motor!
    • Well GTSBoy, prepare yourself further. I did a track day with 1/2 a day prep on Friday, inpromptu. The good news is that I got home, and didn't drive the car into a wall. Everything seemed mostly okay. The car was even a little faster than it was last time. I also got to get some good datalog data too. I also noticed a tiny bit of knock which was (luckily?) recorded. All I know is the knock sensors got recalibrated.... and are notorious for false knock. So I don't know if they are too sensitive, not sensitive enough... or some other third option. But I reduced timing anyway. It wasn't every pull through the session either. Think along the lines of -1 degree of timing for say, three instances while at the top of 4th in a 20 minute all-hot-lap session. Unfortunately at the end of session 2... I noticed a little oil. I borrowed some jack stands and a jack and took a look under there, but as is often the case, messing around with it kinda half cleaned it up, it was not conclusive where it was coming from. I decided to give it another go and see how it was. The amount of oil was maybe one/two small drops. I did another 20 minute session and car went well, and I was just starting to get into it and not be terrified of driving on track. I pulled over and checked in the pits and saw this: This is where I called it, packed up and went home as I live ~20 min from the track with a VERY VERY CLOSE EYE on Oil Pressure on the way home. The volume wasn't much but you never know. I checked it today when I had my own space/tools/time to find out what was going on, wanted to clean it up, run the car and see if any of the fittings from around the oil filter were causing it. I have like.. 5 fittings there, so I suspected one was (hopefully?) the culprit. It became immediately apparent as soon as I looked around more closely. 795d266d-a034-4b8c-89c9-d83860f5d00a.mp4       This is the R34 GTT oil sender connected via an adapter to an oil cooler block I have installed which runs AN lines to my cooler (and back). There's also an oil temp sensor on top.  Just after that video, I attempted to unthread the sensor to see if it's loose/worn and it disintegrated in my hand. So yes. I am glad I noticed that oil because it would appear that complete and utter catastrophic engine failure was about 1 second of engine runtime away. I did try to drill the fitting out, and only succeeded in drilling the middle hole much larger and now there's a... smooth hole in there with what looks like a damn sleeve still incredibly tight in there. Not really sure how to proceed from here. My options: 1) Find someone who can remove the stuck fitting, and use a steel adapter so it won't fatigue? (Female BSPT for the R34 sender to 1/8NPT male - HARD to find). IF it isn't possible to remove - Buy a new block ($320) and have someone tap a new 1/8NPT in the top of it ($????) and hope the steel adapter works better. 2) Buy a new block and give up on the OEM pressure sender for the dash entirely, and use the supplied 1/8 NPT for the oil temp sender. Having the oil pressure read 0 in the dash with the warning lamp will give me a lot of anxiety driving around. I do have the actual GM sensor/sender working, but it needs OBD2 as a gauge. If I'm datalogging I don't actually have a readout of what the gauge is currently displaying. 3) Other? Find a new location for the OEM sender? Though I don't know of anywhere that will work. I also don't know if a steel adapter is actually functionally smart here. It's clearly leveraged itself through vibration of the motor and snapped in half. This doesn't seem like a setup a smart person would replicate given the weight of the OEM sender. Still pretty happy being lucky for once and seeing this at the absolute last moment before bye bye motor in a big way, even if an adapter is apparently 6 weeks+ delivery and I have no way to free the current stuck/potentially destroyed threads in the current oil block.
