Hi Guys,

Well, my S2 tail lights arrived today, with 1 inconsistency: the chrome trims that go either side of the number plate:

all are the same, with the exception of one of the keylock panels: it is bright chrome, where all the other trims are 'shadow chrome'. were there 2 types of trim, or do I assume the odd one out is an aftermarket item??

it doesn't really worry me too much, except that I'm planning on selling the set I don't use....

Cheers,

Micah

My 1998 Series 2 RS4V has both 'greyed chrome' on both lights.

However I do recall seeing a few with one side chrome and the other side 'greyed chrome' like what you have.

Also recall seeing some with both sides chrome.

What is even freakier is that mine has the little reverse light only on the LH tail light and not on the RH tail light!

Could these little subleties deferentiate any of these-

98/99 year, 2000+ year, trim level- (prime edition?), turbo/non-turbo, 2WD/4WD, Auto/Man etc?

Could anyone shed a little light on the subject?

Mine has colour coded white trim. Think it was done by Dayz as original. I have not seen many others that have this so far.

looking at the S2 part listings on fast, there are 4 different versions, depending on year and whether your car is a 'cold area' version (hi-vis rear light), which mine is. Dont know where the chrome comes into it. check the tail lights for part numbers and compare to this list.

The single one means you have the rear fog lamp (accessed by the light stalk and a light comes on on the dash when it's on)

I doubt a car would come factory delivered with chrome 1 side & shadow chrome the other.

(hi-vis rear light)- How do I spot this one?

depends if yours is a 'cold area' version, operated by the fog lamp switch on the blinker arm, 1 click for front fogs, 2 for front and back lamp, pm me your VIN and Ill let you know. Possibly the non-cold area cars have the clear lens(as above) and the cold areas have red where the rear fog light is.

re-checking FAST, the chrome trims have their own part number, so maybe they are available separately from Nissan. Seems the greyed chrome was on the 8/98 to 9/99 models and the chrome was 9/99 onwards.

Thanks for the VIN decoding.

Yep, 'cold area' car with rear RH fog lamp, leather/electric and heated seats and LSD- LSD rare option for an Auto RS4V.

And mine has the 'greyed chrome' trim on both tail lights and it is a 10/98.

Thanks again.

    • Ok thanks..that was my second question if i can somehow bypass this even with Nistune(that is all i have right now...aparat from stock ECU. So with some aftemarket it can by "bypassed" or make it work?  I know there is Link or Haltech (mainly used). We have ECUmaster here so i will gather some info about it.
    • Yes. You will need to get the original boost sensor and wire it in. That is.... if you plan to use a stock ECU - even a Nistuned ECU. The Nissan ECU will not operate correctly without it connected. And yes, it will do annoying stuff like you are experiencing. You will almost certainly be better off with some aftermarket ECU, than trying to hunt down rare sensors.
    • Ok so ABS/TCS is "not" the problem. Yeah i know now about the ABS with Nistune(i told that to the Nistune guy) but iam not 100% why or why i dont have ABS. ABS cube is in the engine (always has been) but i had braked couple of times rly hard and brakes just locked and scream. Does all Skylines have ABS cube? That boost sensor https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/367633-wtb-r34-gtt-turbo-pressure-sensor-pics-inside/ Is this it? I need to ask but i have a picture of engine bay and i do not see that (100% is not in that place) If i do not have this the car can do what mine is?(cutting around 4000 rpm) Here is the pic of my engine bay(only one i have) BUT i think i dont have that cuz loom was used from my RB20DE NEO and i know (obviously) that it does not have boost control or any wire to that...) so maybe that is the problem? (i dont know for 100% if that car where the engine is from had that)...but i dont have the loom from that
    • I'm with you here. It's either loom has an issue, OR, injectors are not functioning properly. It could even be they're just constantly dribbling, hence the wet, but not firing.
    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
